Abstract

A base station using a transmission diversity technique in a cellular mobile communication system. This base station (1) includes a downstream transmission data generating unit (51) for outputting transmission data containing an information data signal and a control data signal, a transceiver unit (50) for transmitting a radio signal generated by controlling the amplitude/phase of the inputted downstream transmission data signal on the basis of feedback information from a mobile station (10) and for demodulating the radio signal received to extract the feedback information, a transmission antenna group (31) of N (N is a natural number of 3 or greater) transmission antennas (#1 to #N) for transmitting the radio signal from the transceiver unit (50), and a receiving antenna (36) for receiving the radio signal from the mobile station (10). With this construction, it is possible to increase the number of transmission antennas of the base station and to suppress the amount of upstream feedback information even in a handover when an upstream channel signal transmission rate at which the feedback information is transmitted restricted, to improve the characteristic deterioration in the case of a high fading frequency and to stabilize the handover.
