Abstract

This invention presents a twin piston engine comprising a cylinder opened at both ends and two pistons that move in opposite directions. The bottom piston is connected to a three-throw crankshaft through an inline rod.The top piston is connected through a modified rod to the connecting branch of the two side rods and through these rods to the crankshaft.

Description

TITLE OF INVENTION
TWIN PISTON ENGINE
Technical Field The invention relates to internal combustion engines and more particularly it presents a twin piston engine with two opposite pistons in the same cylinder.
Background of invention
Many changes are made to the engine since it was created. There have been created many types with different abilities. This invention relates to twin piston engines. In prior art we see for example in the patent GB 208,670 published in March 1923 a twin piston engine where one's piston rod passes through the other piston creating extra friction among the moving parts. There are also some other patents related to twin piston engines such as WO 99/878 or US 6,182,619 Bl published respectively in April 1999 and February 2001. These patents describe twin piston engines but the rods of different pistons pass their rotating movement to two crankshaft. In respect to these or other earlier patents this invention presents a twin piston engine where are eliminated the extra friction forces present in the 1923' s patent and passes the rotating movement of both piston rods on one crankshaft.
Disclosure of invention
This invention presents a new design for the twin piston engines with internal combustion. The invention generally comprises a cylinder opened at ends, two pistons, three piston rods with their connecting rods and a three-throw crankshaft. The pistons move in opposite directions between a first position where they are spaced apart and a second position where they are proximate to each other. This engine comprises:
1. A cylinder 10 opened at both ends.
2. Two opposite moving pistons 21 and 22.
3. Three piston rods with their connecting rods. 4. A three-throw crankshaft 40
The pistons 21 and 22 move in opposite directions between a first position where they are spaced apart and a second position where they are proximate to each other. The connecting rod 31 of the bottom piston 21 is in line; the connecting rods 32 of the top piston 22 are set off to the side and the three of them are connected to their respective places in the crankshaft 40. The two connecting rods 32 of the top piston are permanently connected with each other through the connecting branch 33 and this branch is pivotally attached to the piston through the modified rod 34. The modified rod 34 is connected to the piston through the pin 35, which is 90 degree rotated in respect to the bottom pin 36. This is done in order to force the modified rod 34 to move only in vertical direction by embodying it with the top piston.
In fig 3 are shown among the others the inlet 51 and exhaust outlet 52 with their respective valves. In fig 4 is shown also the sparking plug 60.
Brief description of the drawings
Fig 1 is a schematic perspective view of the mechanism presented by this invention.
Fig 2 shows how this mechanism can be implemented in a two-stroke engine. Fig 3 shows how this mechanism can be implemented in a four-stroke engine. Fig 4 is an upper view of the engine where are used two twin-piston cylinders.
