Description

Filter assembly provided with means facilitating the replacement of the filter cartridge.
The invention relates to the field of design and production of filter assemblies used to filter liquids flowing in engines or hydraulic equipment.
Such filter assemblies are constituted by a filter body inside which is disposed a filter cartridge, which generally has a cylindrical shape and which includes a filtration medium, which may for example be made of paper, cardboard or even felt. This filtration medium is conventionally delimited by two end flanges.
Such filtration cartridges generally cooperate with a central tube, integral or not with the flanges, the outside diameter of which is close to the inside diameter of the filtration medium so as to limit the deformations of the medium under the effect of the pressure exerted at l inside the filter assembly.
The lower flanges can be extended to present means for positioning and holding the cartridge in the filter assembly.
Alternatively, filter assemblies are known which use a support tube on which the filter cartridge is attached, the tube being permanently mounted in the filter assembly.
When the cartridge placed in the tank is used, that is to say when the filter element no longer fulfills its filtration role in a satisfactory manner, the used cartridge is removed from the tank and replaced by a new cartridge.
During this change, the operator must extract the cartridge from the tank of the filtering assembly in order to be able to insert a new cartridge into it.
According to an approach providing that the removal of the cover from the filtering assembly involves the extraction of the cartridge, a conventional solution consists in integrating a support tube into the cover, the cartridge being held on the support tube by means of a felt seal. The handling of these filter assemblies is not very easy in practice.
In addition, to replace the cartridge, the operator is led to grab the used cartridge with the full hand to separate it from the tank and / or its support tube. In addition to the unpleasant feeling it gives, the operator's hands are quickly stained in a manner that is difficult to reverse, with fluids whose harmlessness cannot be guaranteed (especially when they contain heavy metals).
To facilitate the extraction of used cartridges, various solutions have been proposed.
Particularly known, according to document DE - 197 16085, a filter assembly provided with a cover which cooperates by clipping with the filter cartridge, so that, the removal of the cover causes the extraction of the filter cartridge . The operator then separates the cartridge from the cover using any tool, fixes a new cartridge on the cover and replaces the assembly on the tank. The advantage of this solution lies essentially in the fact that, during all its intervention, the operator is not forced to grab the filter cartridge directly and therefore avoids contact of the liquid. However, this solution has several drawbacks. First, the filtration cartridge has a complex structure, integrating the filtration medium, the lower and upper flanges, but also the support tube forming a single piece with the upper flange and the clipping means cooperating with the cover. The assembly is therefore expensive, both to produce and to replace. Secondly, such an assembly is replaced jointly with each renewal of the cartridge. As has just been indicated, the number of parts making up this assembly and their mass are relatively large. However, used cartridges are intended to be incinerated and the current trend is to significantly reduce the proportion of plastic material necessary for the manufacture of such cartridges to facilitate their subsequent destruction. The solution described in the document DE - 197 16 085 therefore does not contribute to going in the direction of the current trend aiming at decreasing the production of organic waste.
The invention particularly aims to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art.
More specifically, the invention aims to provide a filter assembly which allows the replacement of the filter cartridge without direct contact of the operator with it.
The invention also aims to allow such a replacement which limits the amount of parts and / or material to be removed after renewal of the cartridge.
Another object of the invention is to provide such a filter assembly which promotes the return of liquid, during the change of the cartridge, to the liquid reservoir. The invention also aims to provide such an assembly which allows the degassing of the filter element during filling with liquid from the tank.
These various objectives, as well as others which will appear subsequently, are achieved using a filtering assembly for liquid circulating in an engine or hydraulic equipment, of the type comprising a tank, a cover and a cylindrical element. intended to support a filter cartridge comprising a filtration medium delimited by an upper flange and a lower flange. According to the invention, said cylindrical element comprises a pivoting connecting element capable of cooperating with said cover, and said cover comprises at least one means for retaining said upper flange.
A filter assembly is thus obtained allowing the operator to remove the cartridge via the cover, without having to grasp the cartridge. Unlike the prior art, the cartridge and the cylindrical element can be separated using the pivoting connection as will be seen below. In this way, only the cartridge is intended to be replaced, and therefore destroyed, thus limiting the production of waste. According to an advantageous solution, said connecting element of said cylindrical element forms a ball joint and said cover has means of cooperation with said ball joint.
This characteristic ensures easy mounting of the cylindrical element as well as of the cartridge on the cover of the filter element. Indeed, on the one hand, it is not necessary to respect a particular mounting direction to associate the cylindrical element and the cover. On the other hand, the ball joint connection ensures the possibility of inclining the cylindrical element indifferently relative to the cover for the extraction of the cartridge as will be indicated below. According to an advantageous solution, said cooperation means include retaining fingers delimiting a substantially cylindrical space intended to receive said ball joint.
In this way, the cylindrical element is coupled to the cover by a slightly force fitting during which the ball of the cylindrical element snaps into the space delimited by the retaining fingers.
According to a particularly advantageous characteristic of the invention, said cover comprises means capable of forming a lever for said upper flange so as to release it from said retaining means included in the cover. In this way, no tools are necessary to separate the cartridge from the cover. The operation is thus considerably simplified in so far as it suffices to tilt the cylindrical element and the cartridge relative to the cover by making them bear on any support, until the cartridge disengages from the retaining means. integrated into the cover. Advantageously, said means for retaining said upper flange comprises at least one latching lug. Preferably, said means for retaining said upper flange comprises at least two latching lugs.
The operator thus has a simple and effective means allowing him to clearly feel, during assembly, the engagement of the cartridge in the cover, and, when replacing the cartridge, the disengagement of the latter.
According to a preferred solution, said cylindrical element comprises a central recess. A central conduit is thus obtained inside the cylindrical element, this conduit being able to be put in relation or not with other conduits (evacuation of filtered liquid, return to the tank, degassing ...) according to the desired functions.
According to another characteristic, said central recess opens through said connecting element by a vent, the other end of said central recess being capable of communicating with a conduit formed in said tank for the return of said liquid, and possibly gas, to the reservoir. said motor or said hydraulic equipment.
The central duct of the cylindrical element is thus used for a degassing function of the filter assembly, operating essentially at the time of filling of the filter assembly with liquid.
Advantageously, said cylindrical element comprises centering fins capable of cooperating with said filtration cartridge.
This characteristic contributes to facilitating the mounting of the cartridge on the cover in relation to the cylindrical element. Of course, other means fulfilling the same function can be envisaged without departing from the scope of the invention.
Preferably, said tank comprises a housing intended to receive the base of the cylindrical element. In this case, said housing is capable of communicating with said conduit formed in said tank for the return of said liquid, and possibly gas, to the reservoir of said engine or of said hydraulic equipment.
In this way, during the extraction of the filter cartridge, the housing is freed from the presence of the cylindrical element and the liquid contained in the tank can flow through the orifice towards the liquid tank, until with complete or almost complete emptying of the tank.
The invention also relates to a cylindrical element comprising a pivoting connecting element capable of cooperating with said cover of a filter assembly as described above. Preferably, said pivoting connecting element is a ball joint.

Referring to Figure 1, a filter assembly for liquid circulating in an engine or hydraulic equipment comprises a tank 1 and a cover 2 defining a volume inside which is mounted a cylindrical element 3 which supports a filter cartridge comprising a filtration medium 4 delimited by an upper flange 41 and a lower flange 42. The tank 1 comprises an inlet orifice 101 for liquid, an orifice 102 for an outlet duct for filtered liquid, an orifice 103 for a duct for returning to the liquid reservoir.
The cylindrical element 3 has at its upper end a ball joint 31 forming a connection element with the cover 2, the latter including means of cooperation with the ball joint 31 formed by retaining fingers 21.
According to the embodiment illustrated in Figures 7 and 8, the cover 2 incorporates six pins 22 forming retaining means by snap-fastening the upper flange 41 of the filter cartridge. The cover 2 also has six shoulders 23, each interposed between two lugs 22, capable of forming a surface against which the upper flange 41 can be pressed so as to form a lever when the cartridge is extracted like this. will be explained later.
According to a variant illustrated by FIGS. 9 to 11, the cover 2 incorporates five lugs 22 and five shoulders 23. As is clearly seen in FIGS. 9 and 11, an odd number of lugs and shoulders makes it possible to obtain a configuration wherein each lug is diametrically opposed to a shoulder.
L'emmanchement de la cartouche est poursuivi jusqu'à ce que le flasque supérieur s'encliquète sur le couvercle 2 par l'intermédiaire des ergots 22.For mounting the cartridge, the cylindrical element 3 is previously coupled to the cover 2 (separated from the tank 1) by introduction of the ball joint 31 between the retaining fingers 21. The cartridge is then fitted onto the cylindrical element 3, the centering of the cartridge relative to the cylindrical element being ensured by the centering fins 32. The fitting of the cartridge is continued until the upper flange snaps onto the cover 2 via the pins 22.
The assembly thus formed is then placed in the tank 1, so that the base of the cylindrical element 3 takes place in a housing 104 provided for this purpose at the bottom of the tank 1, the connection between the element cylindrical 3 and the housing 104 being sealed using a seal 34. As clearly shown in Figure 1, the housing 104 communicates with the orifice 103 of the return pipe to the liquid tank. In this way, during the extraction of the filter cartridge, the housing 104 is released from the presence of the cylindrical element 3 and the liquid contained in the tank 1 can flow through the orifice 103 towards the reservoir of liquid, until complete or almost complete emptying of the tank.
This central recess 33 communicates with the orifice 103 of the return pipe to the liquid tank, while it opens, by its other end, through the ball joint 31 through a vent 311.
Thus, during the filling of the filter assembly with liquid, the air contained in the tank 1 passes through the vent 311, then through the central recess 33 to be redirected to the liquid tank. The dimensions of the vent 311, of the order of 0.5 mm, make it possible to limit, and make acceptable, the leakage of unfiltered liquid which returns to the reservoir.
Les différentes étapes de l'opération d'extraction de la cartouche de filtration vont maintenant être détaillées à l'aide des figures 2 à 6.The different stages of the filtration cartridge extraction operation will now be detailed with the aid of FIGS. 2 to 6.
L'état initial de l'ensemble de filtrage à l'état monté correspond à la figure 2, le couvercle 2 étant solidarisé à la cuve 1, l'élément cylindrique 3 couplé au couvercle et la cartouche, par l'intermédiaire de son flasque supérieur 41, étant maintenue par les ergots 22 sur le couvercle 2.The initial state of the filter assembly in the assembled state corresponds to FIG. 2, the cover 2 being secured to the tank 1, the cylindrical element 3 coupled to the cover and the cartridge, by means of its flange upper 41, being held by the pins 22 on the cover 2.
L'ensemble formé par le couvercle 2, l'élément cylindrique 3 et la cartouche de filtration est séparé et désengagé de la cuve 1, tel que représenté à la figure 3.The assembly formed by the cover 2, the cylindrical element 3 and the filter cartridge is separated and disengaged from the tank 1, as shown in FIG. 3.
Then proceed to an inclination of the cylindrical element 3 and the filter cartridge relative to the cover 2 (Figure 4), until the upper flange 41 of the lug 22 is released, by levering against the shoulder 23 as shown in Figure 5. The filter cartridge can then be separated from the cylindrical element 3 essentially under the effect of gravity.
The operator proceeds to the succession of these stages while only grasping the cover, which constitutes a generally relatively clean part of the filtering assemblies.
Other embodiments based on the principle of the filter assembly and the method of extracting a filter cartridge which have just been described can of course be envisaged without departing from the scope of the invention
