Definitions

  • Method, system and anchor plug especially for rqad construction and/or terrain reinforcement of grazing areas and the like, and especially on soft ground
  • the invention relates to a method for the construction of environment-friendly roads, and/or ground reinforcement of grazing areas and the like, especially on soft ground, as disclosed in the preamble of patent claim 1.
  • the invention also relates to a system and an anchor plug for use in the method, as disclosed in the preamble of claim 3 and claim 6 respectively, and an anchor plug as disclosed in the preamble of claim 10.
  • the object of the present invention is to provide a method, a simple and flexible surface system capable of functioning both permanently and/or temporarily, and an anchor plug, which make it cheaper to construct roads in easily damaged areas of the aforementioned type.
  • the system will prevent or reduce the wear which occurs on the use of such areas. It causes minimum harm to the natural surroundings, and does not represent a pollution hazard.
  • the method and system according to the invention are based on netting in the form of sections or individual mats, or more extensive mat structures of suitable material, which are laid out on the ground where the road or path is to run. Usually the netting is not buried. Mesh size, netting thickness, material density and tensile strength, and optional UV protection and/or stabilisation are selected according to need.
  • the system may also include whole or perforated tubes, which may be rigid or flexible, extension pieces, anchor plugs, fastening means between plugs and netting/mat/tubes, stabilising stiffeners, drainage pipes and means for marking the road.
  • the system is provided in such a way that it is suitable for anchoring in the ground.
  • the anchors may be with or without expanding vertical and/or horizontal expansion.
  • All suitable points on the netting should be anchorable by means of the suitable anchor plugs, which are preferably vertically adjustable according to need.
  • the plugs should be capable of being provided with a preferably horizontal fixing, of varying size, to the netting.
  • the fixing should also be capable of functioning as a centre of support, optionally a centre of buoyancy or centre of stabilisation, or as a combination of the given functions.
  • the system preferably includes stiffeners for stiffening the netting where necessary or desirable. A combination of stiffening members and floating bodies may also be used.
  • the system is also designed in such a way that it can be equipped with side markers which may be of varying heights.
  • the netting etc. can optionally be covered with a natural plant material. If desirable, a layer of gravel or the like can also be laid. The surface vegetation grows naturally through the mesh apertures of the netting and strengthens the strain relief capacity at the same time as the road system is incorporated optimally into the natural surroundings.
  • Fig. 1 is a schematic illustration of a system according to the invention in the form of a laid netting mat on which various stiffening members are arranged;
  • Fig. 2 is a schematic illustration of a variant of the system made having elements for drainage, stabilisation and buoyancy purposes;
  • Fig. 3 is a schematic illustration of an example of an anchor plug
  • Fig. 4 is a schematic illustration of an anchor plug of the buoyancy or stabilising type
  • Fig. 5 is a schematic top view of an example of the plug in Fig. 4.
  • Figs. 6 and 7 are schematic illustrations of an example of a modified anchor plug used together with a netting mat, seen from side and from above respectively.
  • the reference numeral 1 indicates a mat of the netting type. It may preferably be of plastic such as PE or PP or other natural materials which involve a minimum risk of environmental pollution. Of course, other suitable materials may also be chosen. However, essential requirements are that the mat has the necessary tensile strength, is easy to handle, inexpensive to manufacture and non-degradable, so that it does not pollute the environment to an unacceptable extent. There are no specific requirements with regard to the size of the mesh and consequently this can be selected as desired or required.
  • stiffening members 2 may be arranged on the mat 1. As indicated, these may be transverse, diagonal or criss-crossing stiffeners. The main purpose of the stiffeners 2 is to ensure that the mat 1 is stretched out in the right way and basically maintains this shape, even after loading. As indicated, the stiffeners 2 are equipped with suitable fastening means 3, which should also be capable of being attached to the anchor plugs and optionally marker poles.
  • the netting 1 can be supplied as a roll which is easily rolled out where the road is to be located, and which preferably is anchored to the underlying surface.
  • Fig. 2 shows a variant of the invention where longitudinal tubes 4 fastened to the intermediate netting mat 1 are provided.
  • the fastening can be effected by welding, adhesive bonding, tying or another suitable manner.
  • the tubes 4 function as stabilising elements, and optionally also as buoyancy elements, and they can also serve drainage purposes. They are made of rigid or partly elastic material, for example, a suitable plastic material.
  • the tubes may be whole or in parts, and made with or without perforations.
  • Additional tubes can also be arranged across the central part of the netting mat 1.
  • the tubes 4 are preferably made so that they can be interconnected to form several sections. Perforations or holes can be provided in the upper edge for discharge of water, or ice when, for instance, there is a frost.
  • the tubes 4 may also be made of netting material similar to the netting of netting mat 1 which is rolled up to form the tube body.
  • Fig. 3 shows an example of an anchor plug 6.
  • This comprises a main body 9 which ends in a driving-in point shaped in a suitable manner in order to obtain good anchoring in the ground.
  • a serrated arrow shape is shown in the figure.
  • An upper and a lower stop washer, 7 and 8 respectively, which also function as supporting washers, are arranged at the end of the plug part which runs through the netting mat 1.
  • Threads for cooperative fixing to a vertical marker pole may be provided at the top end. Poles of this type are not shown, but they are made of a suitable materials, and are, as mentioned, adapted for connecting or fixing to anchor plugs 6, and optionally to stiffeners 2, 3.
  • the marker poles may be equipped in an suitable manner, for example, with luminous bands or the like, lights etc. to ensure that the marking is easy to observe.
  • Fig. 4 shows an example of another type of anchor plug 11.
  • This one is made having an inner plug body 12 which at its lower end is shaped so as to have a suitable pointed body for driving into the ground.
  • a conical body 13 is arranged around an upper portion of the plug body 12 .
  • the body 13 extends across and constitutes a large part of the plug 11. It may be hollow, with an upward facing opening and optionally equipped with a suitable cover. It may be permanently sealed or possibly solid. Stop, supporting or fastening washers 14 may be provided as in connection with the plug 6.
  • the plug 11 also constitutes a buoyancy body, which may be particularly advantageous in extremely wet ground conditions. It may optionally be filled with material, for example, soil or gravel, and thus acquire additional favourable properties as stabilising element.
  • Fig. 5 is a schematic example of the use of the plug 11 in a netting mat 1.
  • Fig. 6 is a schematic illustration of an anchor plug 16 which has been modified in that it is provided with an internal cavity which is open towards the driving-in area, but otherwise sealed.
  • a suitable valve body 15 is provided in the upper part of the cavity.
  • the valve body 15 is produced so as to function as a one-way valve which only releases air from the cavity and must be reset if it is to allow air into the cavity. If an attempt is made to pull the anchor plug out of the ground without the valve body being set in the open position, a negative pressure will be produced inside the cavity which creates a suction effect of the same type as a vacuum effect, which assures extra good anchoring.
  • the plug 6 may be equipped with a locking groove 18 for interaction with a locking means or locking washer 17 for, e.g., anchoring a netting mat 1 as illustrated schematically in Figures 6 and 7.
  • the anchor plug 16 is highly suitable for use with the method and system described above, but is not limited to this use as it could just as easily be used for anchoring or bedding, for example, marker poles, fence posts and the like.
  • the plug 16 may be equipped with suitable fastenings or locking means (not shown), as for instance bolts, threaded holes/openings, grooves, mounting clips etc.
