- the realisation technology of these tanks is well known: a blow-moulded or roto-moulded synthetic jacket, not necessarily provided with particular mechanical characteristics but resistant to etching and/or corrosion and/or used for food, is strengthened by winding a highly- resistant fibre, glass fibre in particular; the process is called "filament winding"; in general, the fibre is impregnated with special resins in order to obtain a compact structure with high mechanical characteristics.

- a special reference to fig. 1 and 3 of a composite material tank 12 they show a jacket 2 of suitable thermoplastic material, provided with a housing 2.1 for the countersunk base 1.1 of the collar 1 and wrapped with the strengthening layer 3 consisting of special impregnated fibres; even though the figures do not show the entire tank 12, it is obvious that the strengthening layer 3 wraps the jacket 2 completely, in that it has, in every area, the most suitable thickness according to the techniques of the known art.
- the tank is hermetically sealed by means of a flanged plate 5 and a gasket 4 overlapped on the gasket between jacket 2 and collar 1.
- a water inlet tube 13, a thermostat sheath 14 and an armoured electric resistance 15 are marked in fig. 1.
- Fig. 4 shows the extrusion mouth 6 from which comes out the plastic state tube 7 that shall form the jacket 2; it also shows the collar 1, supported by the insert holder 8; the collar 1 is shown already inserted inside the extruded tube 7 since it must form an insert of the jacket 2.
- fig. 5 shows the same elements of the previous figure, with the valves 9 closed, the jacket 2 formed due to the pressurised air let in through the nozzle 11 and the collar 1 inserted definitively at the lower end of the jacket 2.
- the cooling of the jacket 2 following the moulding process causes the tightening around the collar 1. This causes, according to known techniques that do not need to be shown, the winding of the impregnated fibres around the jacket 2 in order to obtain the strengthening layer 3, which will be thicker at the collar 1 and will fill the grooves 1.3 and 1.5 completely.
- the glass fibre impregnated with polyester, with ortho-ophtalic resin or with epoxy resin is particularly suitable.
- the materials to be used for the jacket 2 and the collar 1 they obviously depend on the functions to be carried out by the tank and it is appropriate for them, even if not necessary, to be chemically similar or compatible, or made compatible by means of appropriate additives or monomers inserted in the polymeric chains, according to known techniques; i.e. materials able to adhere or weld together in the plastic state in order to obtain a perfect tightness.
- the preferred material is polypropylene for the jacket 2 and glass fibre charged polypropylene for the collar 1.
- the said elements jacket 2 and collar 1 are manufactured, as said, in similar or compatible materials or materials made compatible, it might be useful for the collar 1, before being inserted inside the tube 7, to be properly preheated at a temperature ensuring a better adhesion or welding to the jacket 2 during the formation process of the latter. Moreover, by using the said materials, after completing the composite material tank 12, it is also possible to hot weld, with a special equipment realisable by any field technician, the edge 1.2 of the jacket 2 at the housing 2.1.
- the closing means consist of the flange 1.6, the flanged plate 5, the steel bolts 1.7 and the gasket 4 providing that said gasket 4, as shown in the figures, stretches over and covers the point of connection between collar 1 and jacket 2 and, if necessary, is housed in a special seat that keeps it in position.
- the collar 1 can be obtained in any material having proper mechanical characteristics, for example in die-casting aluminium alloy or the material can be chosen without any compatibility constraint with the thermoplastic material with which the jacket 2 is made.
