(b) Description of the Related Art
As the Internet has become popularized, users have come to change their information-using styles. In general, a user accesses the Internet through a web browser installed in the user's computer, searches various
types of information through homepages of service providers displayed on the web browser, and downloads desired ones. However, since the user only receives displayed information in the conventional information-using method, the user cannot freely communicate information with the service providers. Further, the conventional toy market had been reckless and
subordinate to makers irrespective of toy users' intention. That is, toys have
been simply operated according to the users' manipulation, and they have
been manufactured and developed only by the toy makers. In order to
overcome this simplicity, in some cases a programmed system has been installed in the toy so that the toy may generate human speech or perform
predetermined actions according to options selected by a user.
However, since the conventional toy has a previously-made system
in it, the toy is restricted by a fixed pattern and it only functions as a mere toy, thereby failing to generate the user's continuous curiosity.

FIGs. 3(a) and 3(b) show a flowchart of the information-providing
method according to the first preferred embodiment of the present invention.
When a user connects the responsive terminal 100 to a user PC 200 using a universal serial bus (USB) port (not illustrated) while the user PC 200
is connected to the information support server 400 through the Internet 300,
the terminal controller 160 checks a proper number stored in the ROM 120 in step S100. The terminal controller 160 transmits the proper number data to
the uploader 190, and the uploader 190 uploads the proper number data to
the user PC 200 in step S1 10.
The application program unit 240 transmits the received proper
number data to the information support server 400 through the Internet 300.
The responsive terminal recognizer 410 checks the proper number of
the responsive terminal 100 in step S120. In this instance, when this case is
the user's first access, a web document including a predetermined
membership registration form is displayed on the screen of the user PC 200 to process a corresponding membership entrance. The membership registration form allows the user to input the responsive terminal's proper
number, and it also allows the user to input the user's access ID and a
password so that the user may access a personal homepage when the responsive terminal 100 is not accessed to the user PC 200. If the responsive terminal 100 is accessed to the user PC 200 when the user is
previously registered as a member, the responsive terminal recognizer 410
searches the responsive terminal's detailed information stored in the
responsive- terminal database 530 to check its proper number. The
authenticator 420 compares the searched detailed information with the
proper number data to perform automatic log-in, and transmits automatic log¬
in results to the responsive terminal 100.
The application program unit 240 of the user PC 200 displays processing results on the monitor in step S130, and transmits proper number processing results to the responsive terminal 100.
The terminal controller 160 receives the proper number checking results from the user PC 200, and performs automatic synchronization on operation data so that the responsive terminal's operation (stored in the
RAM 130) for each time frame may be possible in step S140. In this instance, the automatic synchronization represents the operation for automatically receiving from the information support server 400 data for operating the responsive terminal 100 at a predetermined time, storing the data in the RAM 130, and enabling the terminal controller 160 to adjust the responsive terminal operation start time stored in the RAM 130.
The terminal controller 160 checks whether a user's input signal is provided from the input unit 140 in step S150.
The T/S 141 senses the user's response according to the user's clicking a button, and the temperature sensor 142 measures the temperature of the current external environment in which the responsive terminal 100 is positioned. The optical sensor 143 senses the light of the external environment, in which the responsive terminal 100 is exposed, according to the intensity of the sensed light in a stepwise fashion. For example, when a user puts the responsive terminal 100 in the dark, the optical sensor 143 senses the current state according to the intensity of the currently sensed light. The impact sensor 144 senses impacts applied to the responsive terminal 100. For instance, when the user provides an impact to the
responsive terminal 100, the impact sensor 144 senses that a predetermined
force is currently applied to the responsive terminal 100. The human body
sensor 145 senses the movement of an object outside the responsive terminal 100. For example, the human body sensor 145 senses that the user
is away from the responsive terminal 100 during a predetermined time period, and when the responsive terminal is left over a predetermined time without
the user's key manipulation, it is automatically switched to the power saving
mode, and when the user is absent from the responsive terminal 100 for a long time, it can be switched to the power-off state according to the user's
setting. The microphone 146 transmits the signal input from the user to the
signal processor 150, and the terminal controller 160 transmits the user's
speech signal input from the signal processor 150 to the speech recognizer 180. The speech recognizer 180 analyzes the user's speech signal and
transmits the analyzed speech signal to the terminal controller 160, and the terminal controller 160 represents analyzed results through the output unit
170 according to the analyzed results. For example, if the user says "Move
forward," the speech recognizer 180 recognizes the user's -speech and
transmits analyzed results to the terminal controller 160, and the terminal
controller 160 transmits the responsive terminal's motion control signal to the
motion driver 174 so that it may move forward.
When the user responds to the input unit 140, the input unit 140 transmits a sense signal according to the user's response to the signal
processor 150, and the signal processor 150 analyzes the sense signal input from the input unit 140 and transforms it into a signal that can be processed by the terminal controller 160. The terminal controller 160 analyzes the signal transmitted from the signal processor 150 in step S160. The terminal controller 160 checks whether the currently received signal is to be transmitted to the user PC 200 in step S170. For example, the terminal controller 160 checks whether the received signal is generated by the user's direct response to the responsive terminal 100 so as to play a desired game or by the input unit's response because of natural phenomena. If the analyzed input signal is a signal input by the user to play a game and it is to be transmitted to the user PC 200, the terminal controller 160 transmits the signal to the user PC 200 in step S180. If the analyzed input signal is a signal for the responsive terminal 100 to respond to it, the terminal controller 160 performs output control through the output unit 170 so that the responsive terminal 100 may be operated in step S190. For example, if the user mistakenly presses the T/S 141 of the responsive terminal 100, the terminal controller 160 analyzes the signal input from the T/S.141 through the signal processor 150 to generate a saying of "You pressed a wrong
button," through the speaker 171.
The application program unit 240 operates an application program according to analysis results of the input signal received from the step S180 of signal transmission, and the input signal is again analyzed by the application program in step S200.
The application program unit 240 checks whether a second user's responsive terminal is connected to the user PC on the Internet 300 that is a network in step S210. If the second user PC is connected on the network, the application program unit 240 transmits control data corresponding to the analyzed input signal to the second user PC in step S220. For example, when the user presses the T/S 141 of the responsive terminal 100 to execute a network game and adjusts the motion of a game character, the application program unit 240. transmits game progress data through the Internet 300. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, since the application program unit 240 is programmed to be linked with conventional network games, the responsive terminal 100 functions as a joystick, a keyboard, or a remote controller for adjusting the network games. If the second user's user PC is not connected on the Internet 300, the application program unit 240 connects the responsive terminal 100 to the user PC 200 to execute general games. For example, when the user executes a game through the responsive terminal 100 while the second user is . not connected on the Internet 300, the application program unit 240 determines the operation of the responsive terminal 100 as the operation of the joystick, the keyboard, or the remote controller, and recognizes the signal input from the responsive terminal 100 as a game manipulation signal to execute the game. For example, in the case of a DDR (dance dance revolution) game, when the user responds to the arrow direction displayed on the monitor of the user PC 200 to press the T/S 141 of the responsive terminal 100 with his finger, the terminal controller 160 analyzes the input signal processed by the signal processor 150 and transmits a control signal through the connector 110, and the application program unit 240 analyzes the control signal transmitted from the terminal controller 160 to display it on the game screen.
When receiving the game progress data while the second user connects a responsive terminal to the user PC so as to execute a network game, the application program unit 240 displays operation results of the responsive terminal 100 on the screen in step S230. For example, if it is assumed that the responsive terminal 100 is of a pizza form and the second user wins the game, the pizza-formed game character rises on the user PC's screen because of winning the game as an operation result. The output module 230 receives output data for controlling the operation of the responsive terminal 100 from the application program unit 240, and transmits them to the responsive terminal in step S240.
The terminal controller 160 receives the responsive terminal's operation control data and performs operation through the output unit 170 in step S250. For example, when the motion that the pizza-formed responsive terminal rises is displayed on the screen, the terminal controller 160 operates the motion driver 174 to make the responsive terminal 100 rise. The terminal controller 160 can present various screens linked with the game to the user
PC 200, control to perform limited motions in addition to the motion displayed
on the screen according to the responsive terminal's form, and display a
screen that may lead the user's response through the responsive terminal
100. For example, when the user wins the game, the terminal controller 160 may display an instruction for pressing the pizza-formed responsive terminal
twice on the screen, or allow the user to perform an instruction displayed on
the screen.
The speaker 171 presents the instruction or feeling caused by the
response results in the sound. For example, when the user wins the game, the speaker 171 outputs cheering and clapping sound for congratulations or a speech of "Congratulations! You Win." The LED 173 notifies the user of
winning the game through blinking, and the motion driver 174 can present
motions according to characteristics of the responsive terminal 100. The vibrator 175 vibrates the responsive terminal 100 through vibration, and the
odor generator 176 emits the odor according to the characteristics of the responsive terminal 100.
The terminal controller 160 accumulatively stores result data caused by the response results in a variable region of the RAM 130, and when the
user's response to the game is finished, the terminal controller 160 drives
the uploader 614 to upload the response result data stored in the RAM 130
to the user PC 200. The uploader 190 transmits the accumulated result data to the user PC 200 in step S260.
The application program unit 240 uploads the result data transmitted
from the responsive terminal 100 to the information support server 400 in
step S270.
The authenticator 420 authenticates the user connected to the
Internet 300 on the basis of the user's response result data in step S280.
The user response processor 430 stores the received result data in the result
database 540 in step S290, and transmits processing results to each user PC 200 in step S300. The application program unit 240 receives response result processing contents and outputs them on the screen in step S310. For example, when the user wins the game, the application program unit 240 displays scores caused by winning the game on the screen, or it displays motions such as the motion of a graphic character having an image identical with that of the responsive terminal 100 on the screen. The application program unit 240 transmits response result processing contents to the
terminal controller 160 of the responsive terminal 100. The terminal controller
160 receives the. processing contents and outputs them to. the output unit
170 in step S320. In this instance, the responsive terminal 100 receives level rising data from the information support server 400 according to accumulated
results as user response, and the terminal controller 160 stores the level
rising data and the accumulated result data in the RAM 130. When the user connects the responsive terminal 100 to the user PC 200 and executes the
network game on the Internet 300, the user can compare the level data with
the level of the second user's responsive terminal to execute the game. That
is, in the case the user's responsive terminal level is five and the second
user's responsive terminal level is three, the application program unit 240
calls the level data stored in each responsive terminal's RAM, compares
them, and analyzes them, and it outputs processing results to the output unit
according to the analyzed results.

The FAT provides locations of clusters that store files. The active mode represents a mode for enabling bi-directional information
communication between the responsive terminal 6000 and a predetermined
system. The direct access mode indicates a mode for the responsive
terminal to function as a peripheral device for outputting a signal transmitted
from the user computer 1000 when the user computer 1000 and the

button, a temperature sensor, an impact sensor, a vibrator, a left foot button, and a right foot button.
The optical sensor makes responses in three steps according to bright and dark degrees. The LED blinks when the responsive terminal talks. The speaker outputs the voice signal stored in the memory. The odor generator emits at least one kind of odor through the nose of the responsive terminal. The right and left buttons allows the user to make a response to the

An operation of the information application system using the
responsive terminal according to the third preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to drawings.
FIG. 10 shows a flowchart of an information application method
using- the responsive terminal according to the third preferred embodiment of
the present invention. The user PC 1000 is connected to the Internet 2000 by executing the
user's web browser. When the user inputs a URL (uniform resource locator)
of the web server 3000 that provides an information application service to the web browser, the user PC 1000 is connected to the web server 3000 in step
S500.
The web server 3000 checks whether the first connector 6150 of the
responsive terminal 6000 and the serial port of the user PC 1000 are
connected by an application or a web program included in the homepage in
step S510. If they are connected, the user PC 1000 transmits to the web server 3000 connection state data that the responsive terminal 6000 and the user PC 1000 are connected.
The web server 3000 requests a serial number of the responsive terminal 6000 from the user PC 100 in step S520. The user PC 1000 receives the serial number request data from the web server 3000, and calls the responsive terminal's serial number stored in the variable region 6102
stored in the memory 6100 of the responsive terminal 6000 in step S530. The responsive terminal CPU 6250 uploads the serial number stored in the variable region 6102 of the memory 6100 through the uploader 6140. The uploader 6140 uploads the serial number data of the responsive terminal
6000 to the user PC 1000 connected to the serial port through the first
connector 6150, and the user PC 1000 receives the transmitted serial number data and uploads the same to the web server 3000 in step S540.
The web server 3000 receives the transmitted serial number data
and checks whether the user who has the responsive terminal 6000
accesses the homepage for the first time in step S550. If so, the web document provider 3100 displays a web document including a predetermined membership registration form to the user PC's web browser to process the
membership entrance in step S560. The user may directly input the responsive terminal's proper number, or when the responsive terminal 6000
is not connected to the user PC 1000, the user may input the user's access
ID and password to access the personal homepage. The present invention is not restricted to the above embodiment.
The data processor 4400 receives detailed user information input by the user from the web server 3000, and stores it in the user database 5100. In this instance, the authenticator 4200 checks whether the serial number of the responsive terminal 6000 is verified on the basis of the transmitted serial number data in step S570. If it is valid, it performs an automatic log-in process in step S580.
When the responsive terminal 6000 is not connected to the user PC 1000 in the previous step S510, and the transmitted serial number data are not verified in the previous step S570, the user is allowed to directly input a serial number to the web server 3000, and the authenticator 4200 receives the serial number from the web server 3000 and authenticates it in step S590. When the user desires to input an access ID and a password so as to be authenticated, since the user's access ID and password are previously stored in the user database 5100, the authenticator 4200 can call them to authenticate the user. The invention is not restricted to the current embodiment.
When the log-in is finished, the data processor 4400 classifies the responsive terminal 6000 into a predetermined fan club type according to the characteristic of the responsive terminal 6000 on the basis of the serial number data in step S600. For example, regarding the serial numbers, when the number 0 is assigned to the responsive terminal having a form of "pop star A," the number 1 to that having a form of "pop star B," and the number 2 to that having a form of "pop star C," the data processor 4400 determines the currently accessed user's responsive terminal as that having the form of "pop star B," in the case the ID number of the transmitted serial number data is 1. Since the responsive terminal database 5200 stores information on the fan clubs assigned according to the proper numbers according to characteristics of the responsive terminals, the currently accessed user's responsive terminal may be detected according to the proper number assigned to each fan club.
The data processor 4400 calls data of the club to which the user belongs according to the club types from the responsive terminal database 5200, and transmits them to the automatic homepage processor 4"100, and the automatic homepage processor 4100 links the web server 3000 to move the user to the corresponding user's personal homepage in step S610. The
personal homepage is a customized homepage for satisfying the
characteristics of the responsive terminal 6000 and the features of the user who responds according to the responsive terminal 6000. For example, in
the case the responsive terminal 6000 held by the user has a form of a
popular singer, the data processor 4400 calls the accumulation memory data
according to the user's response from the responsive terminal 6000, and
processes the data so that the user may receive additional services (e.g., a
concert reservation, and fan club activities) related to the real pop singer.
The user uses at least one information application item on the
personal homepage displayed on the user PC 1000 to request data in step S620. The information application item represent an item for requesting data
such as schedule management of the responsive terminal 6000, and activity states of the club linked to the responsive terminal. The user may receive a user program for managing the schedule through the responsive terminal. The user installs the user program downloaded to the user PC 1000 through
the Internet 2000, and sets the user program so that the responsive terminal
6000 may respond according to the user's schedule.
The automatic homepage processor 4100 searches the requested
data provided by the user PC 1000 from the service database 5400, and provides the.corresponding request data to the user PC 1000, in step S630.
The user PC 1000 receives the request data, and transmits them to the
memory 6100 of the responsive terminal 6000 in step S640. When an
operation time of the responsive terminal 6000 for each time interval
established by the user or the manager starts, the responsive terminal CPU 6250 calls the data stored in the memory 6100 for each time to perform a predetermined action that corresponds to the data established at a
corresponding time in step S650.
An operation of the responsive terminal 6000 will now be described.
When it comes to a predetermined time, the responsive terminal
CPU 6250 searches the initial start task event stored in the memory 6100,
and automatically synchronizes a task event start time so as to start the task event. The responsive terminal CPU 6250 checks whether an address number of the task event exists, and when it exists, the responsive terminal CPU 6250 uses a start time and a valid time written in a task event index table to check a record location of the event table 6104. When checking the record location, the responsive terminal CPU 6250 performs a task that starts at the record location (that is, an address number) transmitted to the task event index table from the event table 6104. In this instance, the
responsive terminal CPU 6250 brings the event number that exists in the event table 6104, stores various data through data input and outputs, executes them, and brings an address of the wave stream 6105. The
responsive terminal CPU 6250 calls an audio file of the start address and the
end address of the wave stream 6105 of the event table 6104 to start a
speech through a speaker. The responsive terminal CPU 6250 stands by
while waiting for the user's response. The responsive terminal CPU 6250
checks a loop field for iterating the operation of the responsive terminal 6000, and when the loop field exists in the event table 6104, it checks whether a
key is input according to the user's response during the standby period. The
user listens to the audio file output through the speaker and makes various reactions. For example, when the speaker outputs a statement related to
weather, "Good morning, hi. Wake up!" the user presses the right or left
button of the responsive terminal 6000 following the audio comment. When
an input key value is provided according to the user's response, the
responsive terminal CPU 6250 checks whether an action flag exists. In this instance, the action flag represents one or plural previously defined bits used by a program for the purpose of memorizing something or leaving an
appointed message to a second program.
The responsive terminal CPU 6250 checks whether a branch exists in the event table 6104, and when a second branch is provided, it performs a next unit event. The responsive terminal CPU 6250 checks whether a standby task event that is not executed by the user exists during the standby
period after a predetermined task event is executed at the start time, and if a standing-by task event exists, it goes to a step for checking whether a task
event address exists. For example, when a task event for a lunch time
having a one-hour valid time is executed, the user inputs no key during the
lunch, and the user responds to the responsive terminal 6000 within the one-
hour valid time after the lunch, that is, the user presses various keys on the
responsive terminal 6000 to input the keys, the responsive terminal CPU 6250 executes the one-hour valid task event to output speech comment. When no standing-by task event is valid during the valid time, it goes to the initial time synchronization step. In the step of checking the loop field, if no stored loop field exists in the current event table 6104, the responsive terminal CPU 6250 checks the valid time, and checks whether an automatic branch exists in the event table 6104. When an automatic branch exists in the event table 6104, the responsive terminal CPU 6250 performs a next unit event, and when the next unit event is performed, the responsive terminal CPU 6250 checks whether a standing-by task event exists. When no response is generated from the user in the step of checking the valid time, the responsive terminal CPU 6250 stands by during the valid time.
As described above, action result data of the user who variously responds to the motions of the responsive terminal 6000 that operates for each time are stored in the variable region 6102 of the memory 6100. When the user connects the responsive terminal 6000 to the user PC 1000 using a serial port, the responsive terminal CPU 6250 drives the uploader 6140 to upload the data stored in the memory 6100 to the user PC 1000 in step S660. The user PC 1000 transmits the result data transmitted from th responsive terminal 6000 to the web server 3000 in step S670. The web server 3000 transmits the received transmission data to the data processor 4400, and the data processor 4400 stores the transmitted result data in the accumulation database 5300. The data processor 4400 uses the result data to provide information services in step S680. The data
processor 4400 uses the result data to automatically write a diary of the
responsive terminal 6000.
For example, when the user puts the responsive terminal 6000 in a
cold room for a predetermined time period, the sensor 6180 senses the current temperature to transmits a sensed temperature signal to the
responsive terminal CPU 6250. The responsive terminal CPU 6250 checks whether it is under a setting temperature, and when it is under the setting temperature, the responsive terminal CPU 6250 drives the vibrator 6190 to
vibrate the responsive terminal 6000 and drives the heater 6240 to raise the temperature of the responsive terminal 6000.
The user response of the responsive terminal 6000 is stored in the memory 6100, and when receiving the user response result data stored in
the memory 6100, the data processor 4400 writes a diary about the user's
daily behaviors, for example, "The guy Y (the user name) left me (the
responsive terminal) alone in the room, seeming indifferent to me. The guy Y
looks upset today... " Since various indexes (sensibility, physical strength,
and. intelligence) included in the user's response result data are daily varied
according to the user's response, the user's current states and personality
may be indirectly known.
Also, various research requests input by the manager through the
event editor 4300 may be performed through the responsive terminal 6000. For example, when the research information transmitted in the step S640 of data transmission is stored in the memory of the responsive terminal, since the research questions are provided through the wave stream 6105 generated by the operation of the responsive terminal, and the corresponding user's response results are accumulated and transmitted, the user's opinion about at least one research can be collected.
