Abstract

A playing area for a golf game has, for example, nine tee-off zones (1) arranged in a predetermined, sequential pattern, a single, fairway common to all the tee-off zones which separate the tee-off zones from one or more greens (14).

Description

GOLF GAME TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a playing area for a golf game which is a variation on traditional golf.
BA CKGROUND ART
For the purposes of this specification, terminology should be interpreted according to the usual meanings of words associated with the game of golf.
Traditional golf involves the playing of nine or eighteen hole courses laid out over large tracts of land. This requires firstly large expenses of undeveloped land which today is either scarce or expensive or both. From the golfer's side, it requires several hours of free time, also a rare commodity in modern society. In addition some courses require the use of motorised or pull carts which add to the expense. For some, even assisted by such carts, the physical effort required to play eighteen holes is prohibited.
It is therefore an objection of this invention to provide a layout for a golf game which overcomes these disadvantages and results in a less time-consuming, less expensive game which still incorporates the fundamentals of golf. Furthermore it is an object of the invention to provide a form of golf which is easily enjoyed by players of all standards, free of the restrictions of playing standards associated with traditional golf clubs.
Yet a further object of the invention is to provide a business operation associated with the playing area of the invention.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
According to the invention, a playing area for a golf game includes a plurality of tee-off zones arranged in a predetermined pattern, one or more greens and a single common fairway, separating the tee-off zones from the greens(s). In the preferred form of the invention, the tee-off zones are arranged sequentially.
The fairway and/or areas surrounding the green(s) may be provided with bunkers or other hazards commonly found on traditional golf courses.
In one form of the invention, the playing area comprises nine independent tee-off zones and includes one green.
A second green may be provided in a location different to the location o the first green. This would permit a player to experience differing conditions of elevation, distance and wind direction from the same tee-off zones.
If space permits, a further nine tee-off zones may be provided, offering further variety to the golfer.
In the preferred form, safety nets are provided at the tee-off zones.
The playing area or course layout according to the invention offers numerous advantages to a golfer who either has limited time to complete a full round of golf on a traditional gold course or who simply wishes to introduce a more competitive edge to his practice routine or even just a more focussed approach to practising which better simulates traditional golf than a driving range.
Numerous possibilities exist as to how to make use of the playing area. It is envisaged that golf balls may be hired out, typically in sets of 9, and that a golfer would play one or more shots from a tee-off zone (depending on the number of sets of 9 balls hired) before progressing sequentially to each of the remaining tee-off zones. No ball would be struck twice, but an appropriate scoring system could be devised, with points being awarded for closeness to the intended target. Alternatively instant prizes may be awarded for striking a target or achieving a hole-in-one. The above should not be construed as limiting the intended scope of this application.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRA WING
An embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawing illustrating in plan one form of a playing area for a golf game according to the invention.
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
In the drawing, a playing area includes, in this particular embodiment of the invention, nine tee-off zones 10 arranged in a predetermined pattern which may take into account natural features of the land such as trees, hillocks, valleys, water or the like.
Extending in front of the tee-off zones is a single fairway 12 which is common to all the tee-off zones and separates them from the green 14.
Trees 16, bunkers 18 and water hazards 20 are provided for both aesthetic purposes and also to provide opportunities for variations in any scoring system used, including requiring forfeiting or replaying of shots.
