Abstract
The bituminous emulsion according to the present invention, for cold impermeabilization, i.e. at ambient temperature, without the need of warming up the product, that may be applied by spraying with a double nozzle, comprises bitumen in a variable percentage from 35 % to 70 %, modified due to the content of a percentage of elastomer of the SBS kind, in a percentage from 3 % to 15 %, that may be applied by spraying through a nozzle coupled to a second nozzle from which a catalyst is ejected consisting of calcium chloride diluted in water.
Description
AQUEOUS CATALYST AND SPRAYABLE BITUMINOUS EMULSION FOR COLD IMPERMEABILIZATION
"A BITUMINOUS EMULSION FOR COLD IMPERMEABILIZATION, THAT MAY BE APPLIED BY SPRAYING, WITH A CATALYST DILUTED IN WATER"
The present invention concerns a bitiuninous emulsion for cold impermeabilization, i.e. at ambient temperature, without the need of wannig up the product, that may be applied by spraying with a double nozzle.
The need is well known of waterproofing roofs, terraces, industrial sheds, bridges, viaducts, basins, walls in the earth, river beds, tunnels, remakes of old sheathing coverings as well as expansion joints of any dimension and kind.
It is tl e aim of tlie present invention to impermeabilize and protect the mentioned manufacture in an effective and lasting manner, by means of the emulsion according to the present invention, comprising bitumen in a percentage variable from 35% to 70%, modified for containing a percentage of elastomer of the land of SBS in a percentage from 3% to 15%, and that may be applied by spraying through a nozzle coupled to a second nozzle from which a catalyst is sprayed out consisting of calcium chloride diluted in water, so that tlie two sprays, when meeting on the surface to be treated, cause the immediate reaction of fixing, i.e. the breaking of the emulsion and the
deposit of a semi-solid modified bitumen layer, with water release.
The layer of fixed bitumed perfectly adheres to the treated surface and can not be removed by rain or bad weather.
The emulsion according to tlie present invention allows to immediately realize waterproof coatings of considerable thickness, immediately impermeable also onto a vertical wall and upside down, due to tlie catalyst effect that causes tlie immediate breaking of the emulsion when it gets into contact with the surfaces to be treated.
The mentioned percentages of bitumen and of elastomer are provided in a wide range of variability, in a possible variant of tlie invention, first of all due to the possible variability of tlie intrinsic features of tlie available bitumen and, secondly, due to the tenacity and elasticity features that are to be imparted to the layer that will coat the surfaces to be treated. Infact, it is well known thai' bitumen are not all the same and that tlie formulation of the emulsion may depend even in a dramatic manner on some of tlie features of the base bitumen available (like e.g. acidity in mmg of KOH per gram, the percentage of the asphaltenes, etc.).
The mentioned catalyst - calcium chloride diluted in water and sprayed in the same time as the emulsion, by means of the
second nozzle that intercepts tlie emulsion jet - allows to immediately realize the separation of tlie modified bitumen from tlie water that was keeping it into suspension, even on inclined surfaces, on vertical surfaces and on surfaces upside down.
Fixing means tlie phenomenon due to which tlie bitiuninous emulsion immediately passes from its liquid to a solid or semi- solid state, eliminating the water, and that allows to realize a thick layer of modified bitumen on the treated surfaces.
The application of the emulsion, straight after the fixing, may be followed by the application of a felt of a film of glass or of polyester fabric-non-fabric:
- for obtaining an anti-adhesion protection, when in a second time it is intended to apply bituminous conglomerates (like on the floor-system of the bridges) with conventional yard means;
- when it is intended to apply a second emulsion layer for obtaining a reinforced membrane of greater thickness, for particular uses.
The emulsion according to the present invention may be applied, without great limits, in parts far away from the working unit by means of flexible pipings of low weight.
Claims
1. A a bituminous emulsion for cold impermeabihzation, i.e. at ambient temperature, without tl e need of warmig up tlie product, comprising bitumen in a percentage variable from 35% to 70%, modified for containing a percentage of elastomer of the kind of SBS in a percentage from 3% to 15%, characterized in that it may be applied by spraying through a nozzle coupled to a second nozzle from which a catalyst is sprayed out consisting of calcium chloride diluted in water, so that the two sprays, when meeting on the surface to be treated, cause tlie immediate breaking of the emulsion and the deposit of a semi-solid modified bitumen layer, with water release.
2. An emulsion according to claim 1, characterized in that said catalyst diluted in water is sprayed in the same time as the emulsion, by means of the second nozzle that intercepts tlie emulsion jet and that allows to immediately realize tlie separation of the modified bitumen from the water that was keeping it into suspension, even on inclined surfaces, on vertical surfaces and on surfaces upside down.
3. An emulsion according to claim 1, characterized in that, straight after the fixing, it may be followed by tlie application of a felt of a film of glass or of polyester fabric-iion-fabric:
- for obtaining an anti-adhesion protection, when in a second time it is intended to apply biftuninous conglomerates (like on the floor-system of the bridges) with conventional yard means; - when it is intended to apply a second emulsion layer for obtaining a reinforced membrane of greater thickness, for particular uses.
