Abstract

The invention relates to the production of a catalyzer for converting SO2 into SO3. The aim of the invention is to improve performance characteristics of said catalyzer increasing a quality stability. The inventive catalyzer comprises vanadium oxides, alkali metal oxides and sulfur oxides applied on a siliceous carrier. The carrier of a marketed catalyzer or a casing representing said catalyzer comprises pores with radius ranging between 100 and 100 000 Å, after removing acid-soluble active components therefrom. The volume of pores with a radius of 1000 to 10 000 Å amounts to 5-70 % and the content of pores with a radius of 10 000 Å is not more than 50 %. The pore-volume of the catalyzer with a radius ranging between 100 Å and 100 000 Å corresponds to a range of 0.30 to 0.93 cm3/cm3. The siliceous catalyzer is made of synthetic or natural silica or a combination thereof.
