Abstract

A building window assembly having at least one moveable panel and an electrically operated actuated means for moving each panel between an open position and a closed position. Preferably at least two moveable panels are provided, the movement of each moveable panel being independently controllable. The actuating means may be electric or hydraulic.

Claims

14AMENDED CLAIMS[received by the International Bureau on 21 August 2001 (21.08.01), original claims 1-8 replaced by amended claims 1-6 (2 pages)]
1. A window assembly for a building comprising a window having at least two moveable panels, an electrically operated actuating means, panel holders for mounting each panel onto the actuating means, and control means for controlling the movement of each moveable panel independently, wherein each moveable panel is hingedly mountable onto a panel holder, and wherein in a fully opened position, the moveable panels are fully withdrawn to be positioned within a base unit below the window or a top unit above the window, wherein at least one of said panels is a glazing panel.
2. The window assembly according to claim 1 wherein the actuating means includes at least one hydraulically operated jack.
3. The window assembly according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein at least one of the moveable panels is detachably mountable on at least one panel holder.
4. The window assembly according to any one of the preceding claims wherein at least one of the moveable panels is a glass glazing panel.
5. The window assembly according to any one of the preceding claims wherein one of the moveable panels is a white board for use as a projector screen.
6. A window assembly substantially as herein described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying figures.
STATEMENT UNDER ARTICLE 19(1)
The original claim 1 has been amended to incorporate features of previous claims 2, 7 and 3 (partially). Moreover, the claim now recites that one of the moveable panels must be a glazing panel. Basis for this amendment can be found throughout the description, for example, on page
Therefore, claim 1 requires that the window assembly of the invention have the following features:
1. A plurality of moveable panels, movement of each of which is independently controllable. As described on page 2 line 13 to page 3 line 26, the use of a number of independently controllable panels is associated with several advantages. For example, the user may select which panels are required dependent on the particular weather conditions or desired purpose, e.g. privacy, security or, in the case of a white board, for use of the window as a projector screen. Further, making each panel independently controllable, the user is able to open all glazing panels yet leaving a security screen in place to prevent burglars entering a room or children leaving a room via the window.
2. The movement of the panels is controlled electrically. This allows opening and closing of windows which are inaccessible or heavy.
3. Secondly, the claim as amended requires that the moveable panels can be fully withdrawn into a base unit below or above the window. This has the advantage that the window can be fully opened to allow maximum ventilation when all panels are withdrawn into the base unit and enables panels not in use to be positioned out of sight without the need for detaching such panels from the assembly when not in use.
4. Thirdly, each moveable panel is hmgedly mountable on the panel holder. This allows each panel to be swung inwards to allow cleaning of the outer surface of the panel from the interior of the room, making the cleaning operation safer than if each individual panel had to be cleaned from the outside of the window.
5. At least one of the moveable panels is a glazing panel
New claim 4 includes the feature that at least one of the panels is a glass glazing panel, basis for which can be found on page 2, line 20.
New dependent claim 5 includes the feature that one of the panels is a white board for use as a projector, basis for which can be found on page 3 lines 7-10.
The window assembly with each of the features define in amended claim 1 is not obvious from any of the documents cited, when considered alone or indeed when considered in combination.
Impact of the amendments of the claims on the description and drawings
The last paragraph of page 1 of the description would need to be amended to conform to the amended claims; there is a need to remove the embodiment with a fixed panel and at least one moveable panel. Also page 4 of the description, which mentions the sash window, needs to be removed as this embodiment has been removed from the amended claims.
All references to Figure 4 on pages 7 and 1 1 and Figure 4 itself has to be removed, as these are references to a sash window.
