Abstract

The present invention, which relates to an internet telephone information opfering system and method, comprises a database of internet phone service providers related to each area and a web server providing the internet phone services in connection with said database. The present invention is characterized in that a user can select an internet phone service provider in the desired area from those provided by the web server and make a phone call directly after selecting the internet service provider.

Description

TELEPHONE INFORMATION SYSTEM IN INTERNET AND THE METHOD OF OFFER THEREOF
Technical Field The present invention relates to a telephone information offering system and method on the internet which can make a phone call directly through a searched telephone sen-ice as well as provide various telephone information using the internet on the internet.
Background Art
Internet phones are referred to as telephones which allow PC owners having the same system to make telephone-like calls by connecting a PC having software for using internet phones, a speaker, a mike, and a sound card to the internet. They are being rapidly distributed since they have been introduced by Vocaltec, Israel, on February, 1995.
The basic principles of internet phones are the technology of converting analog data like sound into digial data, or vice versa, which enables telephone-like calls. That is, it is possible to make phone calls free of charge, not via general telephone lines, but via the internet, i.e.. a global network. However, such an internet phone is disadvantageous in that both sides wanting a telephone call must be connected to the internet. This is a small matter for an internet private line user, but it is impossible for a person using a modem and a telephone line to be in the state of being connected to the internet all the time. Thus, recently, the method of connecting between a PC and a general telephone or between general telephones by interconnecting the internet and a public switched telephone network(PSTN) is being introduced.
However, the sen ice method and service area for the thush de\ eloped and widely distributed internet phone varies according to companies. In other words, since international services or local services are provided via an internet network, not a conventional PSTN network, and this internet network is connected w ith a PSTN network of the corresponding area, service available areas and service unavailable areas are discriminated according to whether or not a PSTN provider and an internet network provider are interconnected with each other, and the cost of service for each provider is different. Therefore, although general users want to use such a telephone, the}' must check in advance whether or not the internet phone service currently being used by themselves is available in the destination area to which they want to make a phone call. and must collect the information about the cost of service in advance, in the event that they have no prior information about both providers.
Disclosure of Invention
It is. therefore, an object of the present invention to provide an available internet phone information to the area in which the other end to which one end wants to make a phone call is located. It is another object of the present invention to directly provide services in connection with an internet phone service provider.
To achieve the above object, there is provided telephone information offering system on the internet, which including: a database about an internet phone service provider; and a network server for providing internet sen ices in connection with the database. The database includes the information about chargeable service providers and no-charge service providers, the information about the areas in which the services of each internet phone sen-ice provider are available, the merits and demerits of services, and. in case of chargeable services, the information about charges. The network server is characterized in that, if a user selects the area to which he or she wants to make a call, the network server makes the user select an internet service provider ax ailable in the selected area based on the database, and provides the service method and service charge information for the corresponding selected sen-ice provider such that the user can easily understand them. In addition, the network server allow s direct dialing by directK interconnecting with the service provider according to the user's request.

A preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a block diagram illustrating a telephone information offering system on the internet according to an embodiment of the present invention. The network server is a web server. When a user connects to services according to the present invention via
~\ J the internet, the web sen er 2 provides a screen on which the user can select the area to which the user wants to make a call. When the user selects the desired area on the provided screen, a sen er computer requests the database 3 to show a list of providers capable of providing services in the corresponding area, and provides the list of providers and charge information according to the response of the database 3. Since the provided list is directly linked to the service screen of the corresponding service provider 5. it is directly converted to the service screen of the corresponding provider if the user selects the above-mentioned service provider.

On the other hand, a telephone service offering method on the internet using a web server and a database includes: a first step in which a user connects to the web server; a second step of selecting the desired area from those provided by the web server; a third step of providing a list of service providers providing internet phone services to the selected area; a fourth step of connecting to a selected provider in the list of providers; and a fifth step of making a phone call in connection with the program of the connected provider.
While the invention has been shown and described with reference to certain preferred embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.

What Is Claimed Is:
1 . A telephone information offering system on the internet comprising a database on internet phone providers and a server providing internet services in connection with the database.
2. A telephone service offering method on the internet using a w eb server and a database, comprising: a first step in which a user connects to the web sen er: a second step of selecting the desired area from those provided by the web server: a third step of providing a list of service providers providing internet phone services to the selected area: a fourth step of connecting to a selected provider in the list of providers: and a fifth step of making a phone call in connection with the program of the connected provider.
