Definitions
- the invention relates to a filter for gaseous media, in particular an air filter for internal combustion engines, which has a flat filter medium, according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the invention also relates to a filter insert which is suitable for installation in the filter mentioned.
- the filter insert is a replaceable part, which also increases the operating costs of the motor vehicle.
- the filter area of the flat filter cannot be reduced, since the requirements for the service life of the filter and the air resistance generated by the filter for the intake air must be taken into account.
- the object of the invention is therefore to provide a filter with a filter area which is large enough for the application and which can be accommodated in a space-saving manner and has a favorable vibration behavior with regard to the excitation by the pulsating gas to be filtered.
- This object is solved by the features of claim 1.
- a filter insert is claimed according to claim 10, which solves the task by installation in the filter.
- a filter insert is provided in the filter, in which the filter medium consists of at least two segments. These segments are mounted on a frame and together with this form an interior. Depending on the flow direction of the filter segments through the medium to be filtered, the raw or clean side of the filter is created in the interior. This is achieved with seals that are supported either on the frame or directly in the housing.
- the advantage of this design is the division of the filter's effective filter area into several segments.
- the segments consist of the filter medium just formed, which has a smaller surface area compared to the use of a single filter element. A higher stiffness can therefore be achieved for the segments, as a result of which an additional stiffening of the segments, which is intended to prevent vibrations, is not necessary.
- long, narrow segments with folded fleece or filter paper webs can be used, the folds being aligned parallel to the short side of the segment.
- the short pleats have sufficient rigidity to be vibration-resistant and to withstand the pressure differences applied to the filter element.
- a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention is the wedge-shaped design of the interior between the segments. This design represents a cross-sectional shape that is favorable for the flow through the filter element.
- the raw or clean volume in the filter housing can be optimally used for the gas flow to be filtered, as a result of which the total volume of the filter can be restricted to a minimum.
- the wedge-shaped design of the interior counteracts air turbulence, which on the one hand reduces the pressure drop at the filter element and on the other hand reduces the vibration stress on the filter medium.
- support ribs can advantageously be fitted in the interior. These also stiffen the frame so that the overall construction is stiffer. The stiffening can be achieved with a minimum of material, since the ribs experience a symmetrical application of force due to the opposing filter segments. However, the support ribs can only develop their effect if the flow flows through the segments from the outside in, so that the interior represents the clean side of the filter.
- Another embodiment of the invention provides that the frame, together with the segments, completely seals the interior against the remaining housing space. This interior is then connected to a connection on the housing which can serve as an inlet or as an outlet. With this variant, the effective distance to be sealed is reduced to a minimum. In a special variant, in which the connection is made as part of the frame, the distance to be sealed can be reduced further, since a seal between the connection and the frame is not necessary.
- the sealed filter insert has the further advantage that this component does not have to be sealed against parts of the housing. Therefore, according to a further development of the inventive concept, the frame can be elastically fastened in receptacles provided in the housing.
- An elastic fastening means that either the receptacles as such are elastic, or that the frame with the built-in segments has its own elasticity. Leave this way manufacturing tolerances of frames and segments can be easily compensated for, since no defined contact surface in the housing is necessary.
- the frame as such is much more flexible than the housing, which consists of shells that are closed to the environment. The lower tolerance requirements for the individual parts make them more economical to manufacture.
- the idea of the invention can be further developed by designing parts of the frame as walls of the housing. This allows the frame to be easily integrated into the housing. In addition, parts of the frame simultaneously take over the function of the housing wall, which means that material can be saved. The result is a lighter component. In particular, the function of the cover, which is necessary for installing the filter insert in the housing, can be taken over by a frame part. This completely saves this component, which means that tool, manufacturing and assembly costs can be saved.
- the integration of the cover is particularly advantageous in connection with a further embodiment of the invention, which corresponds to the orientation of the wedge-shaped interior according to the installation direction of the frame.
- the wedge-shaped interior extends along the length of the filter insert, which is large in relation to the width. If the installation direction is selected in the manner described, the filter insert with its smallest surface is pushed into the installation opening. As a result, the installation opening can be kept small, the end of the filter insert advantageously being designed as a cover in the manner described. In this area, the connection for the gas to be filtered can then additionally be attached.
- the housing Due to the small installation opening, the housing can be made stiffer with the same amount of material. In addition, lower requirements can be placed on the tolerances of the housing, since a sealing attachment of the cover is easier to achieve if the installation opening is small.
- a sealing attachment of the cover is easier to achieve if the installation opening is small.
- a special variant of the invention provides that the segments are provided directly with sealing lips.
- This can e.g. B. Seals made of PUR foam, which is sprayed directly onto the filter medium. These sealing lips then serve to mount the segments on the frame.
- an auxiliary frame is used, the sealing lip z. B. can be squeezed between the subframe and the frame.
- the subframe can be z. B. with the help of a screw or snap connection on the frame.
- the segments described correspond to filter elements as they are installed in other air filter housings. Due to the construction principle of the frame described, all filter elements of different series can therefore be adapted to the construction principle according to the invention. This leads to a standardization of the filter segments used, whereby the effective filter area can be changed as desired by varying the number of segments. In this way, a modular principle is created, which contributes to the economy of the proposed solution.
- Another modification of the invention provides for a closure for a discharge opening in the bottom of the housing to be provided on the frame. If the frame z. B. removed to change the segments from the housing, the discharge opening is released at the same time. On this occasion, therefore, liquid drains from the housing, which may have accumulated during the operation of the filter.
- the closure can also serve as an elastic suspension for the frame in the housing.
- FIG. 2 shows a view of the upper part of the filter corresponding to view B with a partial section C-C according to FIG. 1.
- the filter shown in FIG. 1 has a housing 10 in which a filter insert 11 is inserted.
- the filter insert consists of a frame 12 which forms an interior 13.
- a cover 14, which closes the housing 10, is designed as part of the frame 12.
- the filter insert 11 is mounted in the housing 10 by being inserted into the housing in such a way that a closure 15 with a sealing ring 16 attached to the frame comes into contact in a discharge opening 17 and the edge of the cover 14 in an installation opening 18 in the housing.
- rib-shaped insertion aids 19 are provided in the housing, which stiffen the housing at the same time.
- Two segments 21 are fastened to the frame 12 using two screwed-on auxiliary frames 20. This is done by sealing lips 23 molded onto a filter medium 22 of the filter element, which sealingly engage in grooves 24 in the frame 12 and are compressed by the auxiliary frame 20.
- the wedge-shaped interior 13 has side walls 25 (see FIG. 2) which, together with the cover 14 and the segments 21, completely seal off the interior against the remaining volume of the housing and thus form a clean side 26 of the filter.
- the clean side is connected to an outlet 27, the outlet being formed as part of the frame 12.
- the housing itself forms a raw side 28 of the filter, wherein it can be seen from FIG. 2 that this is provided with an inlet 29.
- FIG. 2 also shows the structure of the frame in the area that simultaneously replaces wall parts of the housing. This is the cover 14, the left edge of which is still in partial section, the cover merging into the outlet 27. At the outlet there is a circumferential sealing groove 30 which is plugged directly onto the adjacent wall section of the housing 10.
