Abstract

La présente invention concerne, d'une part l'utilisation des gradients de potentiels électriques entre les sédiments et l'eau, ou à l'intérieur de colonnes d'eau euxinique stratifiées pour produire de l'électricité, et d'autre part un dispositif à cet effet. De tels gradients de potentiels électriques se trouvent naturellement aux interfaces entre les sédiments et l'eau ou dans des corps d'eau isolés. Le procédé consiste à disposer, d'une part l'anode dans les sédiments, ou dans l'eau juste en dessous de la limite d'oxydoréduction, et d'autre part la cathode dans l'eau au-dessus de la limite d'oxydoréduction à l'aplomb de l'anode. La tension anodique étant inférieure à la tension cathodique, le courant électrique s'établit en reliant les électrodes à une charge. Ce procédé garantit la production quasi-illimitée dans le temps d'une énergie électrique bon marché du fait de l'oxydation nette de matières organiques catalysées par des micro-organismes.
