  • Communication with location tracking systems (1 1-14) is preferably asynchronous. In this manner, as no communication channel or session is held open while the location is determined (which may take anywhere from a few seconds to a number of minutes), the use of system resources and communication costs are limited without any negative effect on the response time of the system.
  • Communication between the communication subsystem (3) and location tracking system (11-14) is preferably made using an open format communication protocol. The protocol is illustrated in the schematic diagram of Figures 4a and 4b. In Figure 4a, a request protocol data unit is shown.
  • the data unit is transmitted by the communication subsystem (3) to the respective location tracking system (1 1-14) and includes the field ItemlD (200), which contains the location tracking system's identifier of the item to be located.

  • the operational center communicates with the Company Location Systems over the Internet, the sought vehicles may be located in remote locations not necessarily in the same country or o even continent.
  • the application of the present invention is not bound to motor vehicles and may used for any mobile platform, e.g. for tracking persons.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un système permettant de localiser des plates-formes mobiles, chaque plate-forme mobile possédant une unité de localisation. Ce système comprend un système de détermination de localisation communiquant par l'intermédiaire d'une interface utilisateur avec au moins un abonné, la communication d'effectuant sous forme d'entrées qui comprennent l'identité de l'abonné et l'identité de la plate-forme mobile à localiser; un système de communication communiquant avec ledit système de détermination de localisation de façon à recevoir l'identité de la plate-forme distante; et une pluralité de systèmes de localisation distants communiquant avec le système de communication, de façon à déterminer la localisation de la plate-forme distante. Le système de communication est agencé de façon à déterminer un système de localisation distant approprié et à communiquer l'identité de la plate-forme distante, ce système de localisation distant approprié recevant l'identité de la plate-forme distante, renvoyant des informations de localisation de plate-forme mobile, et étant agencé de façon à passer les informations de localisation de plate-forme mobile au système de détermination de localisation. Le système est agencé de façon à recevoir les informations de localisation de plate-forme mobile et à les renvoyer à l'abonné.
