Definitions
- the present invention relates to reusable gift wrapping devices.
- the present invention relates to reusable gift wrapping devices which are designed to wrap a gift box or other items without any additional means or materials, such as adhesive means, additional or separate fastening, or any other additional enclosure devices, and which accommodate a variety of gift sizes and shapes.
- U.S. Pat. No. 5,004,144 discloses a reusable fabric gift wrap comprising a fabric having releasable Velcro fasteners secured to its periphery. While the gift wrap is reusable and complete, the design is sixteen-sided with a variety of corner shapes and sizes and, when closed and secured, is limited to a pre-determined shape and dimension. That is, each gift wrap accommodates only one standard-size box. Besides, the gift wrap must be carefully folded to ensure exact alignment and effective engagement of the Velcro contact strips. Furthermore, Velcro fasteners tend to accumulate lint and debris and may detach from the fabric after repeated use
- U.S. Pat. No. 5,392,983 (Clarke-Boiling et al) discloses a reusable gift wrap comprising a flat, square sheet of a fabric, at the periphery of which is applied an adhesive coating; a pair of fabric tabs attached to the opposite sides of wrap by the adhesive and a fabric ribbon attached to one side of the fabric wrap for decorating and securing said gift wrapping. While this gift wrap is reusable and complete, this design requires the attachment of two small tabs on opposite sides of the wrap to which is applied a resealabe adhesive coating. Besides, the single ribbon is primarily ornamental and does not function as the sole means of closure.
- the present invention provides a flexible reusable gift wrap device comprising a unitary, flat sheet of wrapping material having an outer exposable surface, an opposite inner surface to receive an item and at least a pair of ribbons attached to the opposite sides of the inner surface of the wrap.
- the present invention also provides a flexible reusable gift wrap device comprising a unitary, flat sheet of wrapping material having an outer exposed surface, an opposite inner surface to receive an item and at least a pair of ribbons attached to the opposite corners of the inner surface of the wrap.
- the gift wrap device of the present invention reduces the use of timber for the production of disposable gift wrapping and also avoids the environmental problems associated with the disposal of conventional paper gift wrapping.
- the gift wrap device of the present invention is complete in itself for wrapping a gift or any other items by using a self securing, attached ribbon design that requires no additional tabs, chemical adhesive coatings or extraneous design elements, and accommodates a variety of package sizes and shapes.
- the gift wrap device of the present invention is simple in design which expedites the wrapping process and mitigates the inconvenience. This is particularly useful for people who have difficulty wrapping gifts.

- Fig. 8 is a perspective view illustrating a further intermediate stage in applying the gift wrapping of Fig. 2 to the gift box.
- Fig. 9 is a perspective view illustrating a further intermediate stage in applying the gift wrapping of Fig. 2 to the gift box.
- Fig. 10 is a plane view of a square (or rectangular) sheet of flexible wrap employed in the article of Fig. 14, showing the different location of attachment of the two ribbons in another embodiment.
- Fig. 11 is a perspective view illustrating an intermediate stage in applying the gift wrapping of Fig. 10 to a gift box.
- Fig. 12 is a perspective view illustrating another intermediate stage in applying the gift wrapping of Fig. 10 to a gift box.
- Fig. 13 is a perspective view illustrating a further intermediate stage in applying the gift wrapping of Fig. 10 to a gift box.
- Fig. 14 is a perspective view of the reusable gift wrap in another embodiment of the present invention.
- the gift wrap device of the present invention is complete in itself and can readily accommodate various package sizes and shapes.
- the wrap device may be used for wrapping a gift box or carton or any other items which has different size and/ or shape without using any additional means or materials, such as adhesive means, additional or separate fastening, or any other additional enclosure devices.
- the gift wrap device of the present invention is simple in design. It comprises a sheet of material attached with pieces of ribbon and can easily and quickly wrap a gift or any item.
- the wrap may be formed of a single sheet or a plurality of sheets due to the purposes of package protection and durability. Or it may be quilted to add extra protection for fragile gifts and reversibility for separate occasions.
- the ribbons are designed to be the only thing needed to tie and secure the gift wrap together. At least two self securing ribbons are attached to the opposite sides of the sheet via adhesive glue in the case of paper or stitching in the case of fabric. They extend out from two sides of the sheet and tie into themselves, as adjustable as a shoe lace without the need for additional fastening attachments.
- the reusable gift wrap device of the present invention can be formed of any suitable material including, but not limited to, paper or fabric, such as silk, wool, rayon, dacron, polyester and cotton. Cotton is preferred for reasons of light weight, durability and easy of care and economy.
- the wrap may be printed with generic pattern designs suitable for various occasions and recipients, or it may be printed with specific designs for particular holidays or recipients.
- the wrap device of the present invention may have a simple shape, such as a rectangular or square shape to accommodate a variety of sizes or shapes, or it may be pre-cut to particular sizes or shapes to accommodate specific sizes and shapes.
- the sheet of a fabric material has a rectangular or square shape. Two pieces of ribbon are stitched to opposite end corners of the sheet.
- the process for wrapping and tying according to the present invention is the similar to the currently used process with traditional wrapping paper.
- a box of gift is placed in the center of the wrap device.
- the sides are then folded over to overlap on the top of the gift.
- the two ends without ribbons are first folded in a triangular fashion.
- the other two ends attached with the ribbons are folded in the same fashion, with the ribbons protruding out of these cross folded ends of the wrap at their points.
- the ribbons need only be brought up to the center of the top of the box, thus pulling the tip of the wrap together.
- the ribbons are then crossed over one another , wrapped down and around the underbelly of the gift.
- the gift is then turned over, the ribbons are tied in a traditional knot.
- Fig. 1 illustrates a unitary, reusable gift wrap 1 comprising a flat, square (or rectangular) sheet of fabric 2 having an outer exposed surface 3 and an opposite inner concealed surface 4, visible in Fig. 2.
- the gift wrap 1 also includes a releasing knot or bow 7 tied from a pair of ribbons 5 and 6.
- a pair of fabric ribbons 5 and 6 are attached on opposite sides of the inner concealed surface 4 of the fabric 2 via stitching, respectively.
- the fabric ribbons 5 and 6 may be formed of a strip of matching fabric. The length and the width of the ribbons may vary depending on the whole size of the fabric 2.
- the fabric 2 is placed with its outer side 3 facing downward and the inner surface 4, which is ultimately concealed, facing outward.
- a gift box to be wrapped is placed onto the inner surface 4 of the fabric 2.
- two sides of the fabric 2 are folded, one after another, inwardly toward the back of the box and overlap on the top of the gift box as shown in Fig. 4 and 5.
- Two comers A and C of one side of the folded fabric 2 are folded towards point B and D as shown in Fig. 6.
- the other two comers E and G of the other side of the folded fabric 2 are also folded towards point F and H shown in Fig. 7.
- the two ends are folded in a triangular fashion, the two ribbons are brought up to the center of the top of the box, thus pulling the tip of the wrap together.
- the ribbons are then crossed over one another and wrapped down.
- the box is turned over and two ends of the ribbons are across each other on the top of the box, then tied in a traditional knot or bow.
- the ribbons are tied around the underbelly once again, crossing the ribbons over themselves and bringing back them up lengthwise.
- the gift is rolled over and the ribbons are tied at the center of the top of the box, thereby forming an aesthetically pleasing cross of the ribbons in both directions on the gift.
- Fig. 3-9 illustrates a wrapping operation in another embodiment of the present invention.
- a pair of fabric ribbons 5 and 6 are attached on opposite comers of the inner concealed surface 4 of the fabric 2 via stitching, respectively.
- a gift box to be wrapped is placed onto the inner surface 4 of the fabric 2.
- the other two comers of the fabric 2 are folded inwardly toward each another and overlap on the top of the gift box as shown in Fig. 1 land 12.
- the two ribbons are brought up to the top of the box one after another as shown in Fig. 13, then crossed over each other and wrapped down.
- Fig. 8 and 9 it comes out a wrapped gift of Fig. 1 ready to be given.
- the dimensions of the gift wrap material can be constructed to not only accommodate a variety of conventional shapes and sizes of gift boxes, but also to fit packages of unusual sizes and non-conventional shapes. Accordingly, the scope of the invention should not be construed as limited to the specific embodiments thereof depicted and described herein.
