4 Claims.

This invention relates to packages and more particularly to a packaging means on which clothing or other garments may be' placed and then formed into a convenient, compact parcel for storage and/or transportation.

Among the objects of this invention is the provision of a simple and convenient package wherein clothing or other garments may be kept in compact parcel form and in suchnmanner `that wrinkling and creasing of the articles are practically negligible.

A further object of this invention is to provide a packagingmeans on which clothing or other garments may be placed, then rolled into a convenient, compact parcel and conveniently secured in tubular form.

More specifically, it is an object of this invention `to provide a sheet of packaging material upon which clothing or other garments may be placed and then rolled into convenient tubular form, suitable tabs being provided to permit folding against the edges of the roll to form end walls and means for conveniently securing these end walls in place.

Other, further and`more specific objects of this invention will become readily apparent to persons skilled in the art from a consideration of the following description when taken in conjunctionv with the accompanyingdrawing wherein:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of my novel packaging means in unrolled form.

Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing my package in rolled form.

Fig. 3 is a fragmental view along line 3 3 of Fig. 1.

Fig 4 is a fragmental view showing one ofthe tabs that are folded to form the ends of the package roll.

My invention comprises a substantially rectangular sheet 2 of paper or other suitable packaging material, having the dove-tailed ap or closure 4 at one end.

6 and 8, preferably of approximately circular form and possessing more rigidity than the material of sheet2, extend from opposite sides of sheet 2 near the end I0 opposite ap 4. These

6 and 8 may be integral with sheet 2, but it is preferable to construct these tabs 1 of more rigid material and attach same to sheet 2 by suitable adhesive. One of these tabs 8 is perforatedV approximately near its center and through this perforation'is passed a string or cord I2, one end I4 ofthe cord being knotted to limit its movement. The other tab 6 is provided with t a narrow slit I6.

In using my device, a dress or other garment I8 (shown in dotted lines) is placed in the position shown.inFig. l. Thel end tabs 6 and'il are then folded at substantially right angles to sheet 2, as shown in Fig. 1, and the loose end of the cord I2 is passed into the slit I6 of tab 6 and drawn taut.

`The packaging means and contents are then rolled into tubular form, the dove-tail flap 4 being passed into the slit 20 to secure the parcel against unrolling.

In the illustration shown'in the drawing and heretofore described, the package in tubular form is substantially cylindrical and having a section in conformity with the substantially circular tabs when positioned to .form the end walls of the package. If desired, tabs of other configurations, for example oval, may be used and the tubular form of the package made to correspond with such tabs. By having these Vtabs of sufficient rigidity, there is afforded to the package roll corresponding lrigidity to retain its shape when in storage and transportation. y

From the foregoing, it will be seen that my novel packaging means may be used with simple operation. It affords adequate protection to the contents. The package may be opened by lmerely withdrawing the flap from the slit 20 and then unrolling. The garment can then be readily removed. y

This package admits of reuse.

The present invention is not limited to the specific details set forth in the foregoing examples which should be construed as illustrative and not by way of limitation, and in view of the numerous modifications which may be effected therein without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention, it is desired that only such limitations be imposedv as are indicated in the appended claims. l

I claim as my invention:

l. A package comprising an approximately rectangular sheet of material having closure means at one end, a tab on each side of said sheet at the other end, said tabs being adapted to fold against and form end walls for the tube formed by rolling the sheet in tubular form,`a string having a length at least as great as the width of said sheet and connected to one tab, lthe other tab having a slit' adapted to receive said string, and a slit in said sheet between the ends thereof adapted t0 receive said closure means.

2. A package comprising `an approximately rectangular sheet of material having .a flap of dovetail shape at one end, a substantially rigid tab extending from each side of said sheet at the other end, said tabs being adapted to fold against and form end Walls for the tube formed by rolling the sheet in tubular form, a string having a length at least as great as the width of said sheet and connected to one tab, the other tab having a slit adapted to receive said string, and a slit in said sheet between the ends thereof adapted to receive said ap.

A package comprising an approximately rectangular sheet of paper having a ap closure at one end, a tab of more rigid paper extending from each side of said sheet at the other end, said tabs being adapted to fold against and form end walls for the tube formed by rolling the sheet in tubular form, a string having a length at least as great as the width of said sheet and connected to one tab, the other tab having a slit adapted to receive said string, and a slit in said sheet between the ends thereof adapted to receive said flap.

A package comprising an approximately rectangular sheet of paper having a nap of dovetail shape at one end, a substantially circular tab of more rigid paper extending from each side of said sheet at the other end, said tabs being adapted to fold against and form end Walls for the tube formed by rolling the sheetl in tubular form, a string having a lengthat least as great as the width of said sheet and connected to one tab, the other tab having a slit adapted to receive said string, and a slit in said sheet between the ends thereof adapted to receive said flap.
