Definitions

  • the invention comprises the mass - fabricated engraving and creation of a relief (three dimensional) surface, on standard marbles, granites or other decorative rocks, including synthetic tiles as well.
  • Polished marbles promote the rock's decorative appeal and are conveniently cleaned. However, they are characterized by color uniformity problems to the finished surface (since natural effects are never repeated), while on the other hand they pose the risk of slippage, especially with regard to their exterior usage. Polished marble are the ones having the most widespread use than any other type of marble.
  • Non - polished marbles have a dramatically reduced decorative appeal; however, their slippage properties are much better. Cleaning of the former is much harder. These are seldom used, and in such case, their use is justified by the need for safety against slippage in exterior areas.
  • Coarse - surfaced marbles are produced by means of hammering with a special tool (vinti) (linearly oriented or not), sand blasting or burning by means of a flame gun.
  • a special tool vinyl (linearly oriented or not)
  • sand blasting or burning by means of a flame gun.
  • the resulting surface has even better slippage properties than polished and non - polished marbles, decorative appeal is poor, yet significantly better than non - polished marbles.
  • their cleaning is difficult, since foreign materials may accumulate in the resulting cavities.
  • this type of marble is increasingly used, mainly in exterior apphcations.
  • Benefit (a) results from the bump grid characterizing the surface of the rock, preventing slippage to any direction.
  • Benefit (b) may be explained by the convenience to clean a level bump background compared to individual cavities of other coarse surfaces.
  • Benefit (c) is due to the fact that the attention of a person focuses on the resulting patterns and not the potential natural heterogeneity of the background; thus the surface specification is more tolerant regarding the required uniformity of the base material.
  • Benefit (d) results since apart from the initial surface which may be polished, non - polished or even coarse, many critical attributer such as the frequency, the depth and the shape of grooves, but also the direction and the dimensions of the latter, may produce practically unlimited combinations.
  • Design 1 comprises four similar marble strips, joined in such a way that they produce the impression of a larger pattern.
  • the grooves shown on any of the above-mentioned patterns cover approximately half their length and half their width. Their only difference is that two of them are symmetrical to the other two. As it may be said, they act as pairs for the purpose of the creation of the complete design.
  • Design 2 comprises four similar square marble pieces, joined as well in order to give the impression of a larger design. Their grooves are intersected perpendicularly, however they do not cover the entire surface; they rather leave a small margin at each edge, thus creating 4 small squares at their 4 edges, bearing no grooves.
  • Design 3 comprises three triangles converging upwards, downwards and to the left as we look at the design and one square marble piece to the right as we look.
  • the triangles are sections of squares (as the one shown to the right) which are not wholly illustrated in order to to expand the design too much.
  • the particular attribute of this design is that grooves, parallel to the diagonals of the squares, thus creating 4 individual triangles at each square plate.
  • the join of 4 plates creates 4 small and differing squares, of size equal to the half of the initial square.
  • design 4 comprises four, square marbles, each one comprising quadrants of homocentric circles at two of its four corners. These four, square marbles, when joined in groups of four, create circle designs at their point of convergence.
  • Rocks or synthetic tiles are the materials used as the raw material, in order to apply the proposed method. Materials degraded from a quality or color point of view, bay become the raw material, instead of being disposed.
  • the materials used as the raw material may have a non - polished surface, a polished surface or a coarse one.
  • the necessary first step is the correction of dimensions (thickness, length, width), mainly thickness in order to end up with a material having most accurate dimensions, in order to be able to produce the expected practical and decorative effect.
  • the second and most important step is subsequently the use of industrial diamond, which will produce the final engraved surface.
  • Many diamond cutting tools are simultaneously operating and rotating on the same axis, thus leaving their trace on the linearly moving workpiece, covering its entire surface, or part thereof.
  • the use of high - speed engraving devices, e.g. 100.000 rpm instead of the commonly used 2.500 rpm ones, will result to a polished groove, instead of the non - polished one.
  • a rotation of the workpiece intercedes (typically by 90 degrees) and the above mentioned engraving procedure shall be repeated once more.
  • other additional engraving processing stages may not be phased out.
  • the method's suggested end products shall be glued by means of cement mortar or adhesive glue, on floors, staircases and walls. Their main use is recommended for bathroom floors, around swimming pools, at basement open spaces and gardens, but also exterior staircases. They may also be used at walkways and squares, but also on roads with steep gradients, since the resulting adhesion is significant. Of course they may also be used in interior floors but also as a lining of vertical surfaces.
