- This invention - whose main use is in the nautical field - is, broadly speaking, a ladder, generally flexible, designed and equipped so that it can be hoisted, by means of a halyard, the length of the mast of a sailing -boat, made taut and fastened to the mast so that it may be climbed with ease and safety up to the masthead for all the various purposes indicated below.
- a step ladder - which can be flexible, semirigid and/or in arrangeable sections - suitably adjusted and equipped to be hoisted with a halyard (either of the spanker, the spinnaker or another) the length of a sailing-boat mast and be stretched for the whole (or part) of the length of the mast.
- the ladder is also secured with appropriate guy-ropes around the mast to avoid its being detached from the mast even when the boat pitches and rolls, thus remaining in place even with a heavy sea.

- the two lateral stanchions (1) can be of any material, as long as it is resistant, rigid, semi-rigid or flexible (e.g. fabric, steel, kewlar, nylon, rope, etc.). Even the rungs (2), which can be fastened to the stanchions in various ways, may be of any strong material (plastic, wood, steel, fiber, etc.), but it is preferable for them to be of rigid or semi-rigid kind.

- the ladder is fixed to the snap-link of the halyard used; at the base of the ladder there is also another fastening point to be set at the base of the mast, but this point can be set at various heights - to be decided according to the height of the mast - since the special openable couplings of the base fastening are applied with snap-links, triggers etc. at the desired height, being anchored to the two stanchions of the ladder placed above the chosen rung.
- the final ring (3) is thus anchored to a fixed point at the base of the mast - or on the deck-house - making it thus possible to tauten the ladder the length of the mast by pulling the halyard and winding it on the cleat.
- the length of the ladder becomes variable and can be adapted to the length of the mast.
- the fastenings set at regular distances along the ladder (6) attach it around the mast with quick-closing snap-links (7) which the person applies as he/she climbs, at the pre-set points; thus the ladder becomes integral with the mast and will not detach itself from it even under a man's weight in a heavy sea where the boat rolls.
- This invention therefore offers a new and original solution to the above- described technical problems and is suitable for application in the industrial field because of the multiple uses of the product, in the recreation field, in the ship -building sector and in regatta competitions.
- the base of the ladder may be placed outboard by conveniently regulating the halyard thus becoming a comfortable and rapid means to climb back on board, from any point of the boat, to rescue a man overboard or to gather/pick up floating objects (with a person hanging on the ladder placed overboard); or else to climb back on board after swimming with feet and hands both holding on tight and being firmly attached to the rungs of the ladder.
- the same versatility can be used for work overboard, such as repairs, painting etc.
- this invention has already become an industrial product in Italy where it is made, produced and marketed. It, therefore, has already an industrial and commercial applicability. It has also been advertised as a new invention in nautical specialised magazines, available upon request.
