Definitions
- the invention relates to a connection of an alternator of a motor vehicle, especially a passenger car, the vehicle being furnished with a control unit.
- the electric networks of present cars comprise alternators supplying power to all electric components and charge the board batteries.
- the network voltage is controlled by means of an electric control unit of the alternator output voltage.
- the controller basically consists of a control and regulation part and one or more power stages. With respect to the voltage of the vehicle electric network the main power stage performs a puls control of the alternator excitation circuit. Other power stages, as the case may be, control signal and further electric devices. Power and control parts of the control unit are preferably integrated in one hermetically closed package, which is usually mechanically attached to the alternator casing and the control unit is electrically connected to the vehicle electric system.
- control unit often faces unfavourable temperature, mechanical and climatic features having negative influence upon the control unit life time and thus also upon the reliability of the whole supply system.
- the development and production of a control unit meeting all the requirements is therefore more and more complicated and costly.
- an alternator of a motor vehicle the vehicle being furnished with a control unit, in accordance with the present invention comprising an alternator the outputs and inputs of which are by means of converters connected to a peripheral device of the control unit.
- the alternator is equipped with an excitation circuit having a power switching stage, which is also connected to the control unit.
- Another preferred embodiment comprise an alternator provided with an excitation circuit the power switching stage of which is an integral part of the control unit.
- an arrangement offering an integration of regulating and checking functions of an alternator control into one control unit, preferably a board computer.
- a control unit preferably a board computer.
- Such a design because of favourable temperature, mechanical and environmental conditions concerning such a control unit, increases reliability of operation of the alternator and enables co-operation of the control unit with the supply unit in a field of signalization, testing and control of other electric equipment and devices of the vehicle.
- a standard alternator controller is thus eliminated but principles of regulation of the alternator remain untouched.
- there is improved also a cooling of the power stage of the alternator excitation winding and thus its reliability is higher. Last but not least there should be also mentioned lower costs of the alternator regulation.
- electric circuitry of an alternator 10 of a motor vehicle comprise rotor excitation winding 1 and a three-phase winding 2 in the delta connection on a stator. Outputs of the three-phase winding 2 go to a full-wave rectifier, which is furnished with diodes 3. One of the rectifier output wire is connected to a grounding terminal 4, while the other one is connected to the positive voltage output terminal 5. One of the outputs of the three-phase winding 2 is connected to the alternating voltage output terminal 6.
- the excitation circuit comprising a series combination of the excitation winding 1 and a power switching means 7, is connected between the grounding terminal 4 and the positive voltage output terminal 5. One of the outputs of the excitation circuit is provided by a testing voltage terminal 8.
- an excitation control pulse signal terminal 9 To control the power switching means 7 there is provided an excitation control pulse signal terminal 9.
- the alternator output terminals like a positive voltage output terminal 5, an alternating voltage output terminal 6 and a testing voltage terminal 8 are by means of converters 11 connected to a bus of the board computer 20, onto which there is also connected the alternator input, i.e. an excitation control pulse signal terminal 9. All devices to control and check the supply means of the vehicle electrical network, such as a switching box 12, a charge indicator 13 and a block 14 of components for switching of any applied loads, or any additional components, are also connected to the vehicle board computer 20..
- a standard board computer 20 there can be applied just a processor unit with or without a central bus, or any similar control unit.
- the converter 11 there may be used an analogue-digital converter, the application of which should be for alternator outputs, or amplifier for an input pulse signal for controlling the excitation. Monitoring the signal at the testing voltage terminal 8 allows for checking the alternator excitation winding for interruption or short-circuiting.
- the power switching means 7 may be located also outside the respective alternator 10 and may be even integrated within the control unit. Besides the alternator electric parameters it is possible to monitor also other ones, like temperature, vibration, etc.
- the alternator 10 is furnished with respective sensor elements, the outputs of which are by means of converters 11 connected to the control unit, in the above presented case to the board computer 20 bus.
- the output terminal, the alternating voltage output terminal 6, is provided at only one of the nodes of the stator three- phase winding. For an improved diagnostics it is preferred to have appropriate output terminals from two or even all three nodes.
- the present invention is designed for all motor vehicle furnished with a board computer or any other control unit.
