  • the light regions also represent areas where the print 60 did not contact the receiving surface 38 and the oil based residue was not transferred to the receiving surface 38. Accordingly, light was reflected back into the volume of solid material 30 at those regions.

Because of a change in the indices of refraction at those interfaces, light was either coupled out or scattered from the volume of solid material 30. As a result, light and dark regions occur in the image of the print 60 that propagates through the volume of solid material 30 and towards an optical detector 70 located in the image backplane 58.

As a result, sensitivity to surface irregularities from the manufacturing process is minimized.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un lecteur optique d'empreintes digitales, dans lequel un volume de matière solide comportant une pluralité de surfaces définit un trajet de faisceau lumineux et un trajet de formation d'image. Une lumière provenant d'une source se déplace sur le trajet de faisceau lumineux, et une image d'un objet est transmise par le trajet de formation d'image. Ce trajet de faisceau lumineux est défini par un sous-système optique comportant parmi l'une desdites surfaces une ouverture du diaphragme au niveau de laquelle apparaît une image focalisée de la source de lumière. Le trajet de formation d'image est un sous-ensemble du trajet de faisceau lumineux, et il est défini par un sous-système optique afocal conjugué fini, qui focalise une image de l'objet sur un détecteur. En outre, l'ouverture du diaphragme réalise simultanément deux fonctions. Pour le trajet de faisceau lumineux, elle sert de diaphragme de champ par modulation de l'éclairage de l'image. Pour le trajet de formation d'image, elle sert de diaphragme de champ grâce à la limitation du champ angulaire d'éclairage de l'image du cliché au niveau d'un détecteur optique.
