Description

The present application relates to a composition for combating moles, as well as the use of such a composition in mole galleries.
In the fight against moles, it is known to use various compositions comprising a repellent or toxic product, in the form of baits to be prepared or ready to use which are just deposited directly in the underground gallery. It is then necessary to first dig the ground, then deposit the product in the galleries, or alternatively to use a direct injection cane in the galleries. In order to attract the mole, ready-to-use taupicidal compositions, presented in the form of blocks or sausages have already been used. However, they are difficult to implement in so far as it is necessary to shape the composition, then to condition it adequately to ensure its preservation. Their use is delicate. They are also ineffective mainly because of their poor conservation.
Document FR-A-1 498 299 thus describes a taupicidal composition in the form of an aqueous paste conditioned in a tube which is pressed to release a flexible rod having it roughly in the form of an earthworm. However, the fact that a flexible rod extracted from a tube roughly resembles an earthworm is not enough to attract moles. In particular, the texture and pH of this taupicide composition are not suitable, which explains why this product had to be withdrawn from the market because it could not obtain a final sales authorization.
Document FR-A-2 659 194 describes a bait for the destruction of certain harmful amphibious rodents (muskrats, nutria). This bait is not intended to fight against moles, and the document is silent on the search for a particular texture or pH. Reference may also be made to document BE-A-1,000,534 which describes a powder composition for the extermination of rats.
Le document JP-A-03 292 841 décrit un appât chimique en bloc moulé, et le document JP-A-55 108 407 un agent gélifiant.Document JP-A-03 292 841 describes a molded block chemical bait, and document JP-A-55 108 407 a gelling agent.
Document EP-A-0 078 737 illustrates a long tube cane used for injecting a repellant or toxic product directly into a gallery of moles.
Document FR-A-2 663 506 describes a taupicide powder intended to form a tube immediately after wetting said powder. The document EP-A-0 811 322 describes a bait whose element of palatability comes from the solidification of the liquid from a fat or an oil. This bait in the form of a block is actually more rat poisonous or micide than taupicide, because moles feed almost exclusively on earthworms and insect larvae.
The documents EP-A-0 097 093, FR-A-2 668 892 and EP-A-0 240 826 also illustrate various baits for combating pests, but which are inhomologable and / or ineffective against moles. Document FR-A-2 750 008, published after the priority date of the present application, finally describes an anti-mole bait whose palatable agent is based on insect proteins. However, this document is silent on the search for a particular texture or pH. The object of the present invention is to solve the aforementioned drawbacks and to propose a taupicide composition which is both effective and homologable as such, and which can be easily formed into a flexible tube. The composition targeted by the invention is of the type comprising a toxic product, and it is characterized in that the texture, palatability, water content and pH of said composition are substantially identical respectively to the texture, palatability, water content, and pH of a earthworm.
We thus manage to create a real lure faithfully reproducing the physico-chemical and organoleptic properties of earthworms, which makes it possible to deceive the mole which ingests the product without distrust with the perception of what constitutes 90% of its usual food.
Such a composition then makes it possible to obtain a bait whose protein and water composition are close to those of earthworms which constitute the main part of the diet and the water supply of moles. In addition, the texture of the composition obtained makes it possible to use this composition in an injection device and thus to mold the composition directly on the site in the form of an elongated cylinder or the like. By way of example, the gelling agent is a crosslinked polyacrylic acid polymer thickened in the presence of a catalyst, which catalyst is for example an organic base, such as amino triethanol, in a proportion double that of the polymer d polyacrylic acid, this proportion preferably being substantially equal to 2% by weight and the proportion of water being substantially equal to 75% by weight.
Preferably, the composition comprises, as animal proteins, fish meal in a proportion of between 5% and 10% by weight. This fish meal plays an attractive role with regard to moles and contributes in particular to attract moles towards the taupicide composition.
Advantageously still, the composition is conditioned, when it is introduced into a mole gallery, in the form of soft tubes of approximately 3 to 4 mm in diameter, which soft tubes preferably have a length close to 5 to 6 cm: this also manages to reproduce the dimensional characteristics of the earthworm, which further enhances the effectiveness of the lure. According to a second aspect of the invention, the taupicide composition is introduced into a mole gallery by means of an injection cannula mounted on a piston body containing said composition. The composition is then preferably stored while being ready for use in the piston body. This can be done by using standard type materials which are commonly used to apply sealant or glue.
This use of the composition in accordance with the invention makes it possible to deliver a quantity of taupicide products without risk for the user to touch the product.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear in the description below.
Au dessin annexé, donné à titre d'exemple non limitatif :In the appended drawing, given by way of nonlimiting example:
- la figure 1 est une vue schématique illustrant l'utilisation de la composition conforme à l'invention.- Figure 1 is a schematic view illustrating the use of the composition according to the invention.
The taupicide composition in accordance with the invention will first be described. The percentages given below in the formulations are mass percentages.
When the composition is intended for combating moles, the proportion of alphachloralose can be between 8% and 12% by weight, and preferably equal to 10%. This quantity is sufficient to eliminate the moles during the ingestion of the product.
The composition can also comprise an anti-drying agent, such as glycerol or sorbitol or a mixture of the two, in a proportion of between 3% and 6% by weight.
The glycerol in particular improves the resistance to drying and the cohesion of the composition obtained.
The gelling agent can be a pure food gelatine, as the cryogel ® (trademark of the company Tessenderlo Chemie NV) has the advantage of dissolving and freezing cold.
The proportion of gelatin is between 5% and 15% by weight, and preferably equal to 8% and the proportion of water is between 60% and 75% by weight, and preferably equal to 69%, which corresponds substantially at the actual value encountered for earthworms.
These proportions make it possible to obtain a composition that is neither too liquid nor too compact, which lends itself well to injection by a cannula in a molehill. The gelling agent may also be a crosslinked polyacrylic acid polymer, such as Carbopol " (registered trademark of the company BF Goodrich Co.), thickened in the presence of a catalyst. This polymer is obtained by the reaction of an acrylic acid monomer in the presence of a solvent such as ethyl acetate / cyclohexane. The catalyst is then preferably an organic base, such as amino triethanol, in a proportion double that of the polyacrylic acid polymer.
This catalyst enhances the gelling power Carbopol "in the presence of water and also allows to raise the pH then lowered to a value close to 3, by reducing it to a value between 6 and 8, and pref ¬ neighboring ence 6.2, therefore approximately equal to the pH of a earthworm.
La proportion de polymère d'acide polyacrylique est sensiblement égale à 2% en poids et la proportion en eau est sensiblement égale à 75%.The proportion of polyacrylic acid polymer is substantially equal to 2% by weight and the proportion of water is substantially equal to 75%.
A composition is thus obtained, the texture of which reproduces the texture of a real earthworm while being sufficiently compact and hard to be able to be injected into a gallery of moles.
Of fishmeal is advantageously used to make animal protein composi ¬ talpicide. Fishmeal makes it possible to reinforce the attractive effect of the product with regard to moles. Fish meal is for example introduced in a proportion of between 5% and 10% by weight.

The taupicidal compositions obtained have a texture identical to that of earthworms and water and protein contents substantially equal to those of earthworms. The pH of the taupicide composition is also similar to that of a earthworm.
In addition, conventional preservatives are introduced into the composition in order to avoid the possible appearance of mold in the product.
A product to prevent drying of the composition can be added to the composition. A product commonly used in human food can be used.
The composition which has just been described is preferably packaged, when it is introduced into a gallery of mole, in the form of soft tubes of approximately 3 to 4 mm in diameter, said soft tubes having a length close to 5 to 6 cm. We then manage to reproduce in addition the very dimensions of a real earthworm. With reference to FIG. 1, the taupicide composition is introduced during its use into a mole gallery 3, by means for example of an injection cannula 5 mounted on a piston body 1 containing the composition. The taupicide composition can be stored at protected from light and to avoid dehydration in the piston body 1, by being ready for use. In use, it suffices to attach the cannula 5 to one end of the piston body 1 and actuate a piston rod 2 to dispense a quantity of product in an elongated form 6 through one or more outlet orifices of the cannula 5. In the present case, two lateral orifices 4 have been provided, which promotes the development of tubes. These orifices will naturally be calibrated to correspond to the diameter of 3 to 4 mm sought. In addition, a graduation or a marking can be provided on the piston rod 2, making it possible to easily visualize a determined stroke which corresponds to the desired length of extruded tube (5 to 6 cm for example); alternatively, the extruded length can be determined by counting the number of strokes of the piston rod.
It is also possible to use for the extrusion of the composition a material of the cartridge and applicator gun type already widely used for the application of glue or mastic.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment described above, and many modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
