Definitions

  • This invention concerns a device to straighten the pile on a fabric as set forth in the main claim.
  • the invention is applied to clipping machines and in all cases where it is important for all the pile, including that which is bent and resting on the bottom fabric, to be straightened so as to be clipped or unravelled or worked in some way.
  • the invention is a device which is applied in finishing processes for fabrics in order to work - that is, to unravel or cut at the base, or at a desired and set height - the pile which protrudes from the surface of the fabric so as to form the desired nap of the fabric.
  • the tips of the pile are clipped in order to eliminate the part of the pile which is too long, or to make the height of the pile level and uniform.
  • This clipping operation can serve to optimise the teaselling if clipping is carried out between two successive teaselling operations.
  • a clipping machine comprises, as its main components, a rotating clipping cylinder, possibly movable on its axis, which carries the cutting blades on the periphery and an abutment comb placed on the other side of the fabric with respect to the clipping cylinder and defining a plane or line of support against which the cutting blades act.
  • the action of the cutting blades is not efficacious inasmuch as the pile is not erect when it meets the point of the blades nor substantially orthogonal to the advance thereof; on the contrary, the pile is in a reclining position and the blades therefore tend to slip on the pile, to push it back from the cutting zone or, to cut it longer than the desired length, and therefore in an irregular manner .
  • the invention is set forth and characterised in the main claim, while the dependent claims describe variants of the idea of the main embodiment.
  • the purpose of the invention is to achieve a device to straighten the pile on a fabric which will be suitable to work the pile for example in clipping machines, in unravelling machines and more generally when the pile of the fabric has to be worked.
  • the invention is suitable to achieve a more effective clipping action whatever the fabric may be and whatever the conditions of the fabric may be, ensuring a final result which is much more satisfactory than what can be achieved with machines of the state of the art.
  • This jet of fluid acts from below on the fabric and exerts an action to raise the pile in a position immediately upstream of the zone where the cutting blades of the clipping cylinder act.
  • the pile is therefore raised and erect in correspondence with the cutting blades which can thus achieve a more efficient cut.
  • the jet of fluid is delivered through a slit located immediately upstream of the blade of the comb which functions as an abutment for the fabric in the cutting zone.
  • the jet of fluid before the jet of fluid is delivered against the fabric, it is subjected to a heating action so that its raising action on the fabric is intensified.
  • the means which exert the heating action are contained inside the abutment comb.
  • the jet of fluid is obtained with air.
  • the jet of fluid is obtained with air with added water, or some other liquid, pulverised and containing/not containing substances suitable to act on the fabric and/or on the pile.
  • the jet of fluid is obtained with air with added steam.
  • the jet of fluid is obtained with steam.
  • the jet of fluid is obtained with gases such as azote or other gases at the desired temperature .
  • the blade of the abutment comb is interchangeable.
  • the body of the abutment comb is shaped so as to achieve a chamber which functions as a reservoir to make the jet of fluid uniform over the whole extent of the slit.
  • FIG. 1 shows the overall diagram of a clipping machine adopting the embodiment according to the invention
  • Fig. 2 shows an enlarged detail of the cutting zone of the clipping machine in Fig. 1;
  • Fig. 3 shows a variant of the abutment comb in Fig. 2.
  • the clipping machine 10 shown in its essential parts in Fig. 1 comprises a rotating clipping cylinder 11 which has cutting blades 12 on its periphery.
  • the cutting blades 12 cooperate with an abutment comb 13 arranged on the opposite side of the clipping cylinder 11 with respect to the fabric 14 which has to be clipped; the abutment comb 13 has a support blade 15 defining the abutment plane or line on which the cutting blades 12 act .
  • the fabric 14 is fed forward by a drawing cylinder 16 cooperating with return rollers 17 and arranged downstream of the cutting zone . Upstream of the cutting zone there is a braking cylinder 18 followed by a feeler cylinder 19.
  • the drawing cylinder 16, the braking cylinder 18 and the feeler cylinder 19 are associated with means to regulate the tension of the fabric 14 to be sent for clipping.
  • the clipping cylinder 11 is associated with hood-type intake means 22 which, in cooperation with the rotation of the clipping cylinder 11, have the function of discharging the down after the cut has been made.
  • the clipping cylinder 11 can obtain rotation speeds of about 1000 ⁇ 1500 revolutions per minute.
  • under-blade 23 Immediately downstream of the support blade 15 there is a under-blade 23 which cooperates in the cutting action.
  • the support blade 15 is assembled on the abutment comb 13 by means of screws 24 so that it can be interchangeable both for reasons of wear and also, possibly, so that it can be adapted to fabrics 14 of different consistencies or worked in different conditions, for example with a longer or shorter pile or with fabrics which have pile on both sides.
  • a slit 25 connected with a conduit 26 for the passage of fluid.
  • the conduit 26 for the passage of fluid is connected with means 27 to send and regulate fluid suitable to deliver a controlled jet of fluid under pressure which, as it leaves the slit 25 in extremely close proximity to the working zone of the cutting blades 12, acts on the fabric 14 immediately before it is subjected to clipping, raising the pile 20 and preparing it for cutting.
  • the pile 20 which as it approaches the cutting zone is in a reclining position and resting against the surface of the fabric 14 (shown as 20a in Fig. 2), when it is subjected to the jet of fluid from below the fabric 14, it is raised and arranged in a substantially erect position (position 20b in Fig. 2) .
  • the pile 20 is taken up by the cutting blades 12 which make the cut at the desired height, meeting the pile in a position 20b substantially orthogonal to the surface of the fabric 14 and therefore ideal for cutting.
  • the cutting blades 12 thus make the cut and level the height of the pile, which is maintained substantially erect in position 20c.
  • heating means in order to increase the temperature of the jet of fluid delivered against the fabric 14 so as to soften the fabric and thus intensify the action of raising the pile 20.
  • the heating means consist of electric resistors 28 arranged inside the abutment comb 13.
  • the heating means are outside the abutment comb 13.
  • the slit 25 is defined by a plate 29 which has an adjustable position with respect to the end of the support blade 15 in order to modify the gap of the slit 25 and therefore the intensity of the jet of fluid delivered.
  • the plate 29 is attached to the abutment comb 13 by means of screws 30 which allow it to be replaced and/or its position modified with respect to the support blade 15.
  • Fig. 3 shows a variant of the abutment comb 13 wherein the conduit 26 connected to the slit 25 to deliver the fluid is misaligned with respect to the position where the fluid enters (shown by the arrow 31) .
  • This conformation of the abutment comb 13 makes it possible to create a wider chamber upstream of the slit 25, which functions as a reservoir so as to make the jet of fluid uniform over the whole extent of the slit 25.
