Abstract
This invention concerns a process for producing a composite molded piece in which a core piece is produced from a plastic reaction mixture which is surrounded by a resin-impregnated fabric layer. The structure consisting of the core piece and the impregnated fabric layer is arranged in a mold corresponding to the composite molded piece desired and subjected to a high temperature. The core piece and the impregnated fabric layer are baked together into the composite molded piece. Then, the mold is cooled and the composite molded piece hardened. To avoid uncontrolled shrinkage, an expansate is added to the reaction mixture for the core piece.
Description
VERFAHREN ZUR HERSTELLUNG EINES GESCHÄUMTEN KOMPOSIT-FORMTEILES METHOD FOR PRODUCING A FOAMED COMPOSITE MOLDED PART
The invention relates to a method for producing a composite molded part, a core part being produced from a plastic reaction mixture which is surrounded by a fabric layer impregnated with a synthetic resin, and the structure comprising core part and impregnated fabric layer being arranged in a shape corresponding to the molded part and an elevated temperature is applied, at which the core part and the impregnated fabric layer bake together to form the composite molded part, after which curing takes place.
In such a composite molded part, the core part consists, for example, of a polyurethane reaction mixture which is poured into a mold corresponding to the core part at room temperature and foams in the mold. After the reaction of the polyurethane reaction mixture has ended, a core part results which has a loss of shape of the order of 1%. This loss of shape can be eliminated by suitable dimensioning of the casting mold for the core part. However, such a core part made of a polyurethane reaction mixture also shows an uncontrolled after-shrinkage after prolonged storage at elevated ambient temperatures, such as occur, for example, in summer. The shrinkage is particularly disturbing in such a core part made of a polyurethane reaction mixture when the structure of core part and the impregnated fabric layer surrounding the core part are caked together. This after-shrinkage leads to an unclean, that is to say not smooth, corresponding to the shape of the molded part, but rather to a correspondingly dented, humped surface of the composite molded part, or to the fact that the fabric layer is partially not soaked. However, this means a corresponding reworking of the surface of the composite molding or, in extreme cases, a manufacturing scrap.
Hinterfüllen eines Bauteils mit mindestens einer Schicht zur Wärme- oder Schallisolierung durch Einbringen einer Vergußmasse aus einem aus einzelnen Partikeln bestehenden Leichtzuschlagstoff und einem Polyurethanharz (PU-Harz) und Aufschäumen und Aushärten des PU-Harzes bekannt, wobei ein feuchtigkeitshärtendes Einkomponenten-PU-Harz verwendet wird, das im viskosen Zustand mit den einzelnen Partikeln desDE 29 46 540 C2 describes a method for at least partially filling or backfilling a component with at least one layer for heat or sound insulation by introducing a casting compound from a lightweight aggregate consisting of individual particles and a polyurethane resin (PU resin) and foaming and curing of the PU resin is known, using a moisture-curing one-component PU resin which is in the viscous state with the individual particles of the
Light aggregate is mixed. To foam the one-component PU resin, the particles have a moisture content that exceeds the atmospheric humidity, or water is added to the one-component PU resin beforehand. So there is a one-component PU resin that cures through moisture. This has nothing to do with an expanded material that is added to the foaming reaction mixture for the core part of a composite molded part. There is also no mention of a fabric layer impregnated with a synthetic resin, which surrounds the core part. DE 27 19 714 AI describes a process for the production of lightweight board material containing PU foam plastic, wherein a PU foam granulate with a hardening binder that at least partially fills the spaces between the PU foam particles, mixes, shaped into sheets and the binder is then cured. The plates are preferably formed by pressing. The pressing can take place at elevated temperature. This publication does not describe a composite molded part with a core part made of a plastic reaction mixture and a fabric layer surrounding the core part and impregnated with a synthetic resin.
From DE-OS 19 17 271 a method for the production of molded parts from rigid plastic foam for creating formwork or the like. known. There, pieces of any shape and thickness are made from a foamed rigid foam polystyrene into a shape made of any material. In the gaps a self-foaming rigid foam plastic such as rigid foam PU or the like connecting the sections. injected.
The literature reference "Plastic Consultant", 7/1992, pages 562 to 569, provides an overview, inter alia, of the production of composite molded parts with a core part and a cover layer. The top layer can use, for example, GFK, CFK or BFK, as described on page 564 in the left column, center. The core part can, for example, consist of a foam (see page 564, right column, below). This literature reference does not make any comments on how to assemble the plastic reaction mixture for the core part in such a way that shrinkage or post-shrinkage is prevented. The invention has for its object to provide a method of the type mentioned, in which the above-mentioned shortcomings are eliminated with simple means.
This object is achieved according to the invention in a method of the type mentioned at the outset by mixing the plastic reaction mixture for the core part with an expanded material. The admixture of an expansate to the plastic reaction mixture for the core part has the advantage that an uncontrolled shrinkage in the storage of the core part or when the structure of the core part and the soaked fabric layer surrounding the core part is caked is avoided by the expansate expanding under the influence of heat . However, this means that post-processing of the surface of the finished composite molding or a manufacturing scrap is avoided.
A composite molded part produced by the method according to the invention can be, for example, a sports device such as a golf or tennis racket, a snowboard or the like. or parts of sports equipment such as masts of sailing ships, components of gliders or the like. act. In general, it can be composite molded parts of relatively low weight with excellent strength properties.
According to the invention, the plastic reaction mixture can be mixed with expansate of the order of 1 to 10% by weight. The mixing ratio is esp. depends on the shape and size of the composite molded part to be produced and on which quantity ratio between the core part and fabric layer in the corresponding composite molded part.
To carry out the process according to the invention, it has proven to be advantageous if porous microspheres which contain volatile hydrocarbons are used as the expanded material. Pentane can be used as the volatile hydrocarbon in the expanded material. A polyurethane is preferably used as the reaction mixture for the core part. Such a polyurethane reaction mixture can simply be poured into the mold corresponding to the core part at room temperature, where - as mentioned at the beginning - it foams and completely fills the core part mold.
The fabric layer can be impregnated with epoxy resin or with polyester resin when carrying out the process according to the invention. A carbon fabric layer is preferably used as the fabric layer. Of course, fabric layers made of other materials can also be used.
The impregnated fabric layer is preferably wrapped around the core part. The impregnated fabric layer can wrap around the core part in several layers.
After the formation of the core part and the soaked fabric layer surrounding the core part has been introduced, the shape corresponding to the composite molded part is subjected to a temperature profile which has a specific heating, holding and cooling phase.
