Abstract

Procédé de commutation d'une cellule de cristal liquide smectique C chiral (1) présentant un ancrage planaire en géométrique page de livre ou Bookshelf alignée par les parois (2, 3), caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend au moins la succession d'opérations suivantes: l'on impose un premier champ électrique fort Ep substantiellement parallèle aux parois d'ancrage suivant une direction faisant un angle compris entre 90 degrés et 10 degrés par rapport à la normale au plan des couches smectiques; l'on interrompt ledit champ fort; l'on impose un champ électrique EN comportant au moins une composante d'orientation normale aux faces d'ancrage et de sens choisi en fonction de l'orientation finale souhaitée de la ferroélectricité de la couche smectique.
