- the present invention concerns a method for producing roof truss elements or other wood materials, wherein both ends of the elements have to be cut, and a device for use in the method.
- One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a simple, reasonably priced design, which has extensive possibilities for variation, both in angle and length, where exact cutting and feeding are ensured with simple operation, and where the safety of the operator is guaranteed. Furthermore it should be possible to cut all possible angles, from very sharp to blunt, and by having a saw blade which can be tilted, it should be possible to manufacture roof trusses for hip roofs in one operation.
- the device should be able to be controlled from a separate console which enables both saws to be controlled from one location, also with synchronous operation including fixing.
- the object of the present invention is therefore to provide a method for producing roof truss elements which permits simultaneous cutting of the ends of the roof truss elements and a device for use in the method.
- a device is achieved by simple means for use in double cutting, preferably of roof truss elements, which substantially increases the accuracy of the cutting of such roof trusses as well as reducing their manufacture time.
- the design according to the invention gives a highly efficient operation which is suitable for a high degree of automation.

- Figure 1 illustrates an embodiment consisting of two saw units 1 and 2, in the form of known per se saw units, arranged alongside each other and connected by means of a rail track 13, where one of the saws 2 is stationary while the other saw 1 is movable in the lateral direction in relation to saw 1, thus providing a simple adjustment of the desired cutting length of a roof truss element.
- the saw units 1 and 2 comprise a turntable 3 for adjusting the cutting angle ( ⁇ 90 ) with a saw blade which can be tilted 45 .
- the turntable 3 can be adjusted 180 by means of a tool (not shown) which is located in suitable holes in the turntable for manual or motorized rotation/adjustment of the cutting angle.
- An upper protector 4 with suction is provided above the turntable 3, where the upper protector 4 is raisably and lowerably mounted to a securing body 5 which is mounted via an arm 6 in one edge/corner of the saw.
- retractors 7 for securing the element stock against a slide 8 which is adjustably provided on the work table, and ejection mechanisms 9 in the form of raisable and lowerable roller conveyors for automatic transfer of finished roof trusses from the work table to an area behind the saws.
- an adjustable stopper 14 is provided opposite the slide 8. Furthermore end cuts and the like are removed automatically by means of a pneumatically driven device 15 which "sweeps" the work table, preferably on the saw unit 1.
- the device is operated by means of a control device 12, provided between the saw units 1 and 2, and consists of a two-handed release device, which by means of PLS control (not shown) controls the work cycle.
- the device which according to fig. 1 is composed of two semi-automatic machines, preferably the Gjerde saw, where the saw blade is located under the tabletop/turntable and during cutting it is raised up through this, and where only the feeding in of the element stocks is performed manually, is adjusted in relation to the desired cutting length by means of the saw 1 and in relation to the element's width by means of the lever 11.
- the element stocks are positioned in the longitudinal direction by means of the adjustable stopper 14 and then fed in continuously by means of the retractor to the correct position.
- the subsequent work cycle is controlled automatically by means of the two-handed release device 12.
- the element stock which is positioned against the stoppers 10 by means of the pneumatic retractors 7, is then fixed by means of the securing mechanisms 5, while at the same time the upper protectors 4 are lowered over the cutting zones.
- the saw blades are passed up through a slot in the work table, cut the element stock and return to the starting position.
- the upper protectors 4, the securing mechanisms 5 and the retractors 7 then return, and the element stock is lifted by means of the roller conveyors 9 and is tipped out behind the saw units. Finally end cuts and the like are removed by means of the device 15, preferably on the saw unit 1.
- the roller conveyor 9 which is provided in extension of the rail track 13 enables short material stocks to be cut and possibly cutting of both straight and longitudinal incisions in the form of wedges.
- the machines can also be supplied with additional equipment which increases the degree of automation with the result that the device can be converted to a preprogrammable wholly-automatic device for the manufacture of roof truss elements.
- This can be implemented by means of, e.g., PC control, and supply turntables (cutting angle), tilting mechanism for saw blade, length adjustment as well as feeding in and out of the element stocks by pneumatic, hydraulic or electrical operation.
