Description

SUPPORT COULISSANT POUR MOTEUR HORS BORD SLIDING SUPPORT FOR OUTBOARD MOTOR
The present invention relates to a sliding support for an outboard motor.
It can accommodate all types of known outboard motors and is adaptable to all boats with or without internal motors, from a simple inflatable boat to the cruiser cabin, via fast boats used for example for water skiing. It can be used to support a main engine as well as the booster engine of a sailboat or an auxiliary or emergency engine for barge, pontoon, etc.
C'est par exemple le cas des dispositifs faisant l'objet des brevets américains US 2 643 837 (RIVERS), US 3 032 304 (MACHLAN), US 3 033 500 (GRAVES), US 3 245 641 (HART) OU US 3 877 667 (MONCKTON) .To date, there are a large number of adjustable supports for outboard motors. Most of them are of the articulated type and based on the principle of the deformable double parallelogram. This is for example the case of the devices which are the subject of US patents US 2,643,837 (RIVERS), US 3,032,304 (MACHLAN), US 3,033,500 (GRAVES), US 3,245,641 (HART) OR US 3 877 667 (MONCKTON).
Likewise, the patent FR 87 17 691 filed by the present applicant, describes a support allowing the height adjustment of the motor, when stopped or running, consisting of two parallel arms in arcs of a circle whose ends are articulated on U-shaped profiles mounted on the transom of the boat, and carrying a vertical plate on which the engine is fixed.
Le dispositif décrit dans le brevet US 3 242This type of device has the advantage of removing the motor from the transom, which improves performance, but it has no less than eight joints which, in use, present frequent problems of seizure due to the presence of Seawater. Furthermore, the engine is lifted either by a system installed on board, which complicates the assembly of the assembly and increases its cost price, or is difficult or impossible to carry out while running. The device described in US Patent 3,242
De surcroit, le montage par boulons des colonnes et des autres éléméments entraine des risques sérieux non seulement de déserrage dus aux vibrations, mais également de corrosion électrolytique.899 (HANSON), consists of two vertical columns fixed on the transom on which slides, by means of four collars, an engine support plate whose movements are ensured by a cable crossing the array and winding on a winch installed inside the boat. The installation of such a device requires, in addition to drilling the transom and fixing the winch, the installation of several pulleys, and its adaptation to a non-vertical transom is practically impossible to envisage. Unlike previous systems, this device does not remove the motor from the transom and does not allow its tilting in operation. In addition, the mounting by bolts of the columns and other elements entails serious risks not only of loosening due to vibrations, but also of electrolytic corrosion.
The device according to the present invention aims to remedy the above drawbacks. Indeed, because of its simplicity, its manufacturing cost is low; it is easily and quickly installed on all boats, regardless of the angle of the transom. Not only does it move the motor away from the running position allowing it to tip over, but it also brings it closer to a stop, which facilitates disassembly or maintenance operations. Finally, the corrosion problems caused by seawater are practically eliminated. It consists of a chair carrying the motor and sliding vertically on two forward-angled tubes, connected together to form a fixed frame, and fixed to the transom of the boat, the movement of said chair being ensured by a cylinder fixed to the tubes, or another lifting system, manual or not.
In the appended schematic drawings, given by way of nonlimiting example of one of the embodiments of the object of the invention: FIG. 1 shows in perspective the sliding support not mounted on the boat, FIG. 2 shows, seen from the side, the support in the low position equipped with a motor, and mounted on a vertical rear panel, FIGS. 3 and 4 show, under the same conditions, a support mounted on rear panels inclined rearward and forward respectively , with the motor in the high and low position, and Figure 5 shows a support in the high position with the motor tilted out of water.
The device, Figures 1 to 5, consists of two parallel tubes 1 tilted forward fixed on the transom 2 of the boat 3, and on which slides vertically a chair 4 having an auxiliary table 5 on which mounts the engine 6 .
The inclined tubes 1 are preferably made of stainless steel. The attachment to the transom 2 is advantageously carried out by means of horizontal tubular elements 7 and 8 high connected to the inclined tubes by elbows 9, 9 ', also tubular, fixed by welding or any other means. The adaptation of the system to the tilt of the transom 2 is done simply by playing on the length of the lower tubular elements 8, which will advantageously be interchangeable. The chair 4 is preferably of one-piece construction made of composite insulating material or reinforced with glass fibers, which makes it possible to avoid the risks of corrosion by electrolysis. The sliding on the inclined tubes is ensured by self-lubricating cylindrical guides inserted in the material of the chair. The movements of the latter are ensured by means of a mechanical, electrical or hydraulic jack 10, the fixed point of which is integral with the inclined tubes 1 by means of a spacer connecting the upper tubular elements 8.
The angle A formed by the inclined tubes 1 with the vertical will be between 15 and 25 degrees. In particular, it may be equal to 17 degrees, this value being remarkable in that it allows normal weight compensation of the engine by the reaction of the propelling force, which, by causing the elimination of the forces on the jack. 10 and the reduction of the stresses on the fixed elements, is an assurance of reliability and longevity of the system.
The lower tubular elements 8 are secured by one or more spacers 11. It is conceivable to mount on said tubular elements a deflector 12 intended to prevent the upwelling of water during deceleration, risking, under certain conditions, drowning the engine. This deflector can possibly replace the spacers 11, and even the lower tubular elements. The positioning of the various constituent elements gives the object of the invention a maximum of useful effects which had not, to date, been obtained by similar equipment.
