Description

A SINGLE PACKED CIGARETTE, PIPE TOBACCO FILLING, CHEWING TOBACCO PLUG OR TOBACCO SNUFF PORTION
The invention is relative to cigarette, pipe tobacco, chewing tobacco or tobacco snuff package.
Nowadays, a package of cigarettes, pipe tobacco, chewing tobacco or tobacco snuff, once opened will dry out very fast and lose their flavour, texture and fragrance. Prolonged storage by retailers may promote the same result. At present a consumer is obliged to buy a whole package no matter how frequently the consumer may use the product. The content of a packet once opened may expose the remaining units to other liquids or fluids thus spoiling the product.
It will be very convenient and beneficial to the consumer to have the personal satisfaction in consuming a product that maintains36X20 its full flavour, texture and fragrance at all times.
Also for financial or other reasons it may be an advantage not to be obliged to purchase a product packed at set quantities which may be dry, stale and flavourless from time of opening the packet to eventual consumption.
Furthermore, investigations and research have proved that the concentration of Tobacco Specific N-nitrosamines (TSNA) in a given tobacco product can vary widely and aging in the open air can lead to an increase in TSNA. TSNA is a carcinogen formed from nicotine, nornicotine and anatabine and represents the only known carcinogen in tobacco products.
Consequently, it is of primary importance that the manufacturer will have the option to supply a product that will be less hazardous to human health. Tobacco consumer goods must be fresh and must be packed in such a way that will
prevent contact with air as much as possible until final consumption.
According to the invention this problem has been solved by the separate packing of a single cigarette, a pipe tobacco filling, a chewable tobacco plug or a tobacco snuff portion.
By packing in this way, the final consumer will only open and utilize a single unit as and when it is required, minimizing the product's exposure to air at all times. The consumer will have a consumable tobacco product with the true fragrance of a particular blend or brand of tobacco.
To be highly effective the package of each unit should be airtight or preferably vacuum packed.
The single packed units can be produced in any convenient way and the machinery used may be any appropriate packing machine.
The airtight package, besides being more hygienic, will assure that the tobacco content keeps its ideal moisture level, its freshness, flavour and texture from manufacturer to consumer, giving the product a longer shelf life in maintaining the above until final consumption. This will benefit all consumers and consequently being more consumer friendly.
The material of the package can be any suitable material such as plastic or metal, e.g aluminum, which is preferably porous free and airtight. In the case of a single packed cigarette, the package may be in a rather rigid material to prevent the cigarette from breaking. Softer material can be used if single packed units are repacked in other packets.
On each package can be printed the manufacturer's trade-name or trade-mark and any other announcement about nicotine or tar
present, statutory requirements or advantages in controlling the increase of T.S.N.A. by using single packed airtight package.
It is feasible to supply one single packed cigarette, one pipe tobacco filling, one chewable tobacco plug or one tobacco snuff portion by automatic delivery machines for some small cash money or by retail counter sales.
LO
Also, the standard tobacco packets on the market can be packed by said single packed units instead of loose products. Single packed units may be packed in bulk and it will be up to the manufacturer to identify quantities demanded by the market.
L5
The said single packed units gives consumers the freedom of choice in being able to afford and enable them to purchase any brand of the above said products. To a particular degree this will benefit the lower income consumer.
20
It is understood that, according to the method of single packing tobacco products covered by the present invention, two or a few of said units may be packed together.
25 Some preferred embodiments of the present invention have been described herein in detail, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the art, that variations may be made thereto without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
