Description
Basic carrier for l ight goods
Technical field:
The present invention relates to a basic holder for light articles such as skis, ski-sticks, mouldings, pipes, etc. intended to be secured to the roof of a vehicle or some other smooth metal surface. The holder comprises a flexible magnetic cloth with a thin sheet of ferromagnetic material covering it. The term "basic holder" as used here means that an extra attachment of some kind can be added.
Background art:
Various embodiments of such basic holders are already known. A drawback with many of these known holders is that they are complicated in design and in use, and that they often entail safety risks, such as their being loosened by speed air-currents and / or damp.
Description of the invention:
The aim of the invention is to solve these and other associated problems. It is characterized in that the sheet metal is cast into a holder casing of plastic which extends outside the magnetic cloth and sheet metal and is provided at its outer ends with tongues designed when the basic holder is applied, to seal against the surface, e.g. the roof of a vehicle or the like, with such pre-stressing that air and water are prevented from entering. It is essential that the tongues adhere under pre-stressing so the speed air-current is unable to penetrate between holder and vehicle roof, etc., as this would otherwise entail a considerable safety risk. It is also important for the design to be simple and for it to be easy and quick to apply the holder on the vehicle, etc., and also easy to remove it after use.
In a preferred embodiment a pulling loop is arranged, by means of which one edge of the magnetic mat and sheet metal can be lifted, and the holder then easily removed.
The magnetic mat is suitably multi-magnetized in order to obtain sufficient adhesion to the vehicle roof, etc., and the sheet metal should be of cold-rolled type and less than 1 mm in thickness. The aim is to be
able to roll up the sheet metal and magnetic cloth and for them, after unrolling, to resume their original shape without any folds remaining.
Brief description of the drawings: The invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 shows a side view of the invention, Figure 2 is a picture of the holder casing, Figure 3 shows inclusion of a holder member, Figure 4 is a view of the holder from above, and Figure 5 shows the pulling loop for releasing the holder. Figure 6 is a more detailed view of the holder and Figure 7 a view of the tongues, etc. of the holder casing.
Description of embodiment:
Figure 1 shows a holder for skis, intended for application on the roof of a vehicle. Figure 6 shows a more detailed view of this holder which comprises a magnetic cloth (1), multi-magnetized. Above this, and covering it, is a thin sheet of ferromagnetic material (2), glued to the magnetic cloth (1). The sheet metal, which should have a thickness of less than 1 mm, is of cold-rolled material and can therefore be rolled up and unrolled again without changing shape to any noticeable extent. The task of the sheet metal is to reinforce the magnetic pull towards the surface, in this case the roof of the vehicle.
The sheet metal is cast into a holder casing (3) of plastic, and this casing is provided with holder means for skis (4) or other types of light articles to be transported such as ski-sticks, pipes, mouldings and other building material. The casing extends outside the sheet metal (2) and magnetic cloth (1) and is provided at its outer edges with tongues (8) which, under pre-stressing shall seal against the surface and prevent air and water from entering. Safety is thus obtained.
Beneath or in the holder member (3) is an opening (5) or the like for the application of an extra attachment for special items such as a bicycle. Tongues (6) are punched out of the sheet metal (2) for stability and strength. A pulling loop (7) (see Figure 5) is provided at the outer edge of the casing (3), the purpose of which is to lift up one edge of the magnetic mat and sheet metal when pulled, thus facilitating removal
of the holder. See also Figure 4 where the holder member (4) and pulling loop (7) are shown, as well as the tongues (8) at the edges of the holder casing. Figure 3 shows a detail of the holder member (4) and Figures 1 and 2 show the holder seen from two sides. The rubber mat (1), which has ferromagnetic particles baked into it and is therefore magnetic, is 1-3 mm thick, preferably approximately 2 mm thick. It is multi-pole. The holder is firmly retained, even in high winds, heavy rain, etc., due to cooperation between the sheet metal (2) and the roof of the vehicle or other surface.
Figure 7 shows sheet metal (2), magnetic mat (1) and holder casing (3). Said tongues (8) are formed in the holder casing (3), said tongues abutting, with pre-stressing, against the surface, in this case the roof (9) of a vehicle. Upon application of the holder, these tongues indicate whether the holder is safely applied or not.
The invention can be varied in many ways within the scope of the following claims.
