Definitions
- the invention relates to a pallet, preferably a pallet con ⁇ taining loading levels to be placed at different heights and a method for supporting the load.
- a pallet according to this application means pallets gener ⁇ ally movable by trucks, for the transportation of packed or unpacked, separate or tied goods, as e.g. shells, rolls, etc, that can easily be moved by a pallet.
- the pallets are often transported half filled or at least short. This has created the need to transport on the same pallet several different product lots in order to utilize the whole capacity of the pallet.
- posts vertical supports
- Such a construction does not only demolish the pallets, but requires nailing and different tools to be realized.
- the construction according to the invention provides a deci ⁇ sive improvement of the before mentioned disadvantages.
- the embodiment of the construction and method according to the invention is characterized in what is presented in the chracterizing parts of claims 1 and 10.
- the most important benefit of the invention is that a simple and light construction is provided for the transportation of different products on several different levels.
- Levels can be added along with the loading of the pallet.
- the products can be discharged from any of the levels formed in the order the product is needed, e.g. the discharging can start from the lowest level and continue to the uppermost level or in reverse order or simultaneously. Smaller quantities can be stored of each product.
- the loading levels can be built and disassembled without tools. The material can be re-used, as it is not mechanically attached to the pallet.
- the laterally placed pal ⁇ let posts and their intermediate tie members can be re-used and re-attached. They can easily be disassembled and stored in small spaces.
- Fig. 1 presents a perspective view of the pallet construc ⁇ tion having loading levels according to the inven ⁇ tion.
- Fig. 2 presents a top view of the post related to the con- struction of the subject invention.
- Fig. 3 shows a top view of one embodiment of the tie memb ⁇ er of the opposite posts related to the construc ⁇ tion of the subject invention.
- Figs. 4a and b present a front and side view of a pallet, with a loading construction built of two posts placed on top of each other.
- Figs. 5a and b present different forms of embodiment of the grooves.
- Figs. 6a and b present a groove model for the post.
- Fig. 7 presents the fixing of the band by clinch nails to the post.
- Fig. 1 presents an example of one possible embodiment of the construction of the pallet 1 according to the invention.
- the total width x length of the pallet is e.g. 1000 x 1200 mm or 800 x 1200 mm.
- the pallet comprises the end supports 2 and the center supports 3, joined together by the bottom boards 4 and the upper boards 5 placed crosswise on these, and hav ⁇ ing an intermediate space from which the fork trucks or cor- responding can grip to the pallets.
- On top of the upper boards 5 has been placed a level of e.g. several parallel boards 6 fixed across the former ones.
- the forks of the fork trucks are placed underneath the pallet between the end and the center supports in the direction of the bottom boards 4.
- such a pallet has been provided with a lateral pair of posts 7, 8 by the end supports 2 at both ends of the pallet.
- the post 7, 8 comprises board or corresponding, pro ⁇ vided with opposite pairs of grooves 9, 10, 11, 12 at both end walls.
- the board is to its width a considerably longer thinnish wood plate, e.g. from not quite one meter upwards to even the length of 2-3 m and 2,5 cm thick, or as required.
- the distance between the bottom (13) of each pair of grooves is essentially the same as the distance between the opposite longer portions of the tie member 14.
- the tie member com- prises e.g. preferably a strap or ring, made of a thin wire or corresponding with a diameter of 3-4 mm, whose distance between the longer sides is essentially and preferably es ⁇ sentially the same as the distance between the bottom of the pair of grooves.
- the tie member is a wire bent into a rectangular shape, with its ends joined together.
- the distance between the shorter sides is preferably the same as the distance between the external surfaces of the opposite posts, when the posts are mounted straight against the sides of the pallet.
- the tie member ties the posts to the pallet both vertically and laterally.
- the tie member carries the lateral support vertically by fixing to its grooves.
- a two-level pallet is obtained, when the tie members are placed in these grooves, correspondingly.
- a three-level pallet can be formed. The distance between the levels can be modified as required according to the distance between the pairs of grooves.
- the posts and the tie members are joined together so that at first the one post of the pair is erected against the corner support of the pallet and the lower tie member is introduced through the board into its grooves, whereafter the other post of the pair is introduced through the tie member slightly bent pulling the upper ends of the posts against each other, so that the tie member comes into the grooves of the post.
- the other end of the pallet is made a corres ⁇ ponding arrangement, whereafter goods can be stacked on the pallet and the first tie member.
- the next tie member is placed on top of the stacked goods by placing the tie member into the grooves of the posts by turning it laterally and the posts against each other.
- the post is supported from its bottom end below the loading level of the pallet, that is e.g.
- the tie member comprises preferably a strap surrounding each op ⁇ posite pair of posts.
- More than two pairs of posts can be mounted laterally to the pallet, serv ⁇ ing as a good example for stacking rolls of the length of the pallet or other elongated products. Three or four pairs can e.g. be appropriate when shorter goods are to be trans ⁇ ported. Several loading levels can be placed above each oth ⁇ er. The posts can be detached and re-attached without break ⁇ ing the construction.
- the height on which the tie member is placed can be dimensioned so that the goods stacked on the loading level press from the middle the tie member to the goods stacked below, supporting at the same time also the posts.
- Goods below this loading level e.g. rolls, can be discharged by starting from the edge ar ⁇ ea, while the tie between the posts does not press to the goods below at the edges of the load. This enables the dis ⁇ charging of the products below the tie member from the edges of the load before discharging the products above them.
- the pallet can be divided vertically in portions, due to the fixing of the tie member to the grooves, as the grooves keep the tie member at a certain height, but the pallet can also be divided in the other di ⁇ rection into two or several portions, by placing between the opposite posts an additional post or additional posts, also having grooves for the tie member of the opposite posts.
- the additional post can be placed e.g. between the boards 6 of the pallet level.
- the tie between the posts can be rectangular or it can be a plastic or metal strap, a thin steel or iron wire, a link cut from a reinforced hose, or it can be a plastic injection molding product.
- a polyester or metal band has a high ten ⁇ sile strength, and could be tightened by a band tightener around the post. Such a band could in certain cases be clinched to the post, in which case grooves would not be required, and the clinch nails would not essentially damage the board, as presented in fig. 7, in which the band 20 is fixed by clinch nails 21 to the post 7.
- the pallet can further be built of two posts placed on top of each other as presented in fig. 4, so that the lower part of the additional post construction 17, 18 is placed on top of the lower pair of posts 7, 8 inside its upper part, which construction is supported on the pallet side by the stacked goods and from outside by the tie.
- the grooves which are opposite each other, are at the same height with each other.
- the grooves can e.g. be of the shape of a dovetail.
- the grooves can also be drilled, wherein the center of the drill hole is between the hole diameter and the radius lengths from the external edge of the support, as presented in fig. 5.
- the grooves can be realized e.g. by separate groove members 19, having a vertical groove for the fixing to the post and a horizontal groove for the tie mem ⁇ ber, and which are pushed from its vertical groove to the lateral edge of the post, as presented in fig. 6, and which can be detached for re-use.
- the fixing is made by friction.
- Fig. 6 a is a side view and 6 b is a top view.
- top of the pallet construction containing the loading levels can also be placed an ⁇ other pallet between the posts and on top of the tie member, if desired.
- the grooves can be holes
- the groove can be placed on the board i.e. the broader sur ⁇ face of the post, by which the fixing of the tie member re ⁇ quires only one groove.
