Description

CARRYING DEVICE FOR BAGS FOR ANIMAL
 EXCREMENTS.

The present invention relates to a carrying device for bags for animal excrement, which carrying device is presented in the preamble portion of the enclosed claim 1.

The problem of excrement arising in connection with taking pets out for a walk has been known for a long time. Especially in urban areas this is a difficult problem, because the excrement does not disappear in the terrain easily and are not eliminated through natural circulation.

Through Finnish Utility Model Registration 596 is known a support for bags for animal excrement for carrying along when taking pets, especially dogs, out for a walk. For collecting excrement, bags can be drawn out from a bag roll situated inside a cartridge placed on the support.

The support can be fastened e. g. onto a leash. The cartridge can have a round or elliptical cross-section, and it is fastened by means of special grooves to the body of the support. The cartridge part is also formed with a slit for drawing individual bags out from the roll.

Even if this device provides the advantage that one can easily take the support for excrement bags with him and it will follow wherever it is needed, the construction of the cartridge serving as the actual bag roll storage is not the best possible. The cartridge is loaded through its end by inserting the roll therein. In addition, the utility model registration presents an idea about an exchangeable cardboard sleeve, but its construction and function in connection with a support for excrement bags is not disclosed in more detail.

The aim of the invention is to eliminate the above-mentioned drawbacks and to show a carrying device for excrement bags of a new design, which will make its use even more attractive. For attaining this goal, the carrying device according to the invention is mainly characterized by what is disclosed in the characterizing portion of the enclosed claim 1. The storage for a bag roll is thereby a cardboard box which is folded from a blank to a shape of polygonal cross-section, thus being retained well in its place in the carrying device without any special grooves. At the same time, an extraction slit, through which a bag, wellshielded against the outdoor conditions, can be drawn out, is formed between the opposite edges of the blank. The storage for a bag roll can be easily manufactured to a construction firmly held in the carrying o device.

Because of the material used, the box is inexpensive, and when the roll is replaced with a new one, the box can be simultaneously replaced with a new box that contains a new roll. In this way, the storage for the bag roll need not be loaded separately with a new roll.

The storage for the bag roll is closed at its ends by means of the end flaps of the blank, resulting in good sealing.

As far as other advantageous embodiments of the invention are concerned, reference is made to the enclosed dependent claims and to the following description.

The invention will be described in more detail in the following with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein
Fig. 1 shows the carrying device in a side view,
Fig. 2 shows the carrying device in a bottom view,
Fig. 3 shows the carrying device in an end view,
Fig. 4 shows the box in a side view,
Fig. 5 shows the box in a cross-section,
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the box before its use,
Fig. 7 shows a blank for forming the box, and
Fig. 8 shows another embodiment of the carrying device.

Figures 1 to 3 show a carrying device according to the invention without a cardboard box serving as a storage for a bag roll. In this frame part or holder of the carrying device, there is a base 1, to both ends of which is attached holder projections 2. The holder projections are formed of plates projecting from the base and having edge flanges pointing towards the middle. By bending these projections, a cardboard box 3 shown by Fig. 3 can be placed therebetween. As shown by Fig. 3, the holder projections 3 have quadratic shapes, and their edge flanges support each longitudinal side of the cardboard box 3 of a corresponding cross-section at the outside.

The frame part can be manufactured for instance of plastic by injection moulding, whereby it can be at the same time provided with toothings 4 on both outer edges of the platelike base 1, which erve as friction lines, shown in Fig. 3, as well as with fixing openings 5 going through the base, likewise shown in Fig. 3.

Figure 4 shows in cross-sectior cardboard box 3 used as the bag roll storage in the carrying device ag ro ! ! 6 containing successive bags separated from each other b, iachment lines, such as perforations, can be seen inside the box. Figure 4 shows an extraction slit 7 in the cardboard box, situated on the longitudinal box side facing the base 1.

The slit is formed when the longitudinal sides of a straight cardboard blank, i. e. the blank sections forming the sides parallel with the rotation axis of the roll 6, along the folding lines to the box having the crosssectional shape of a polygon, preferably quadrangle, i. e. a rectangle or square. The extraction slit 7 will thereby be located between the outermost blank sections which in the use position of the bcx overlap, as shown in the cross-sectional representation. When manufacturing the box, the blank can be folded around the bag roll, the end of which can at the same time be placed between said blank sections, thus being ready in th xtraction s) it.

Further, end flaps join to both ends of one blank sectic for instance to a front wall situated above the extraction slit, the flaps being folded so as to dose the open ends in a manner known per se and to keep the box toge ;ex by means of glue areas on the folds of the end flaps. The roll 6 will thereby be kept well protected inside the box 3.

The extraction slit 7 does not quite extend to the corner point of the longitudinal sides, the last blank section forming the outer wall of the slit does not extend till the comer. The slit will in this case be located in the carrying device before the toothing 4 in the extraction direction of the bag. Because the toothings are on both edges of the base 1, the box 3 can be placed in either position, and the carrying de vice is so well suited for a right-handed or left-handed user. A bag is drawn out of the slit so much that the detachment line will lie on the other side of the toothing 4, whereby it can be used as a friction line situated transversely to the bag roll for keeping the next bag in its place, and the extracted bag can be detached by tearing.

Figure 6 shows the box 3 before its use. The box has in this case a perforation or other corresponding tear line 8 at the extraction slit, along which line an additional longitudinal watt 9 can be tom away. The additional wall is folded over the comer following the extraction slit and over the longitudinal wall following the corner, i. e. over the front wall of the box, and it has been locked by means of a locking tongue 10 in a slot 13 situated at the other edge of the said longitudinal wall in the comer of the box, shown in Fig. 4. The above-described extraction slit 7 and the end of the bag roll 6 therein will thus be exposed. The figure shows still how at the end of this tearable longitudinal wall 9 there is formed a hanging lug 11 extending beyond the box end and making it possible to hang the box 3 for example to a display stand. The hanging lug can also be omitted.

Figure 7 shows one possible blank for manufacturing the bag roll storage. The blank has adjacent rectangular blank sections separated from each other through parallel scorings 24. The sections, when folded to angles relative to each other, form the longitudinal walls of the box 3.

The sections are in the following order: an outermost section 14 remaining inside the box aligned with the wall bounded by the extraction slit; a section 15 forming the front wall; a section 16 forming the top wall; a section 17 forming the rear wall; and a section 18 comprising a wall terminating in the extraction slit and containing also the tear line 8 and continuing on the other side of the line over a short distance up to a scoring 24 which limits the last section 19 included in the tearable part.

For sealing the box 3 at the ends, it has short end flaps 20 and 21 separated by scorings 24 on the ends of adjacent sections, the flaps being placed pairwise in the innermost positions at both ends. To the edges lying on adjacent sides of a comer of an end flap 22 placed on top of said flaps, there join fixing flaps 23 which are preferably longer than the end flaps 20,21 and 22, and they can be folded during the assembly of the box under those blank sections which have no end flaps and fixed inside the box onto these sections e. g. by gluing.

In the case of Fig. 7, the short end flaps 20 and 21 are on the ends of the section 14 remaining inside the box and the adjacent next section 15, respectively, and the fixing flaps 23 are pairwise held by the end flaps 22 situated on the ends of the blank section 16 forming the top wall, the end flaps 22 forming the outermost ends of the box. Also some other order is possible but for ensuring the sealing effect of the ends and their strength, they should each have one or two innermost end flaps and one or several fixing flaps joining to the topmost end flap and being adapted to be folded under the longitudinal walls.

Figure 2 shows fixing openings 5 in the base 1, by means of which the carrying device can be fixed e. g. by bundle ties on a leash, whereby the frame part and the bag roll storage therein, i. e. the box 3, are carried along. If the base 1 has a sufficient thickness, its top surface can also have transverse grooves receiving ties for attaching the carrying device. Also other ways of fixing can be provided in the carrying device, such as e. g. a hanging hook 12 attached to the outer side of one of the holder projections 2, this alternative being depicted by broken lines in
Fig. 2. Further, the invention encompasses also the idea that a leash reel frame used generally for taking dogs out for a walk has the abovedescribed holder projections 2 locking the box 3 in its place.

The holder projections 2 are placed in a suitable and the base 1 is thereby formed of that area of the leash reel fran. c that will remain between the projections. It is quite possible in this case to provide a friction line shown in Fig. 2 also to a base of this kind for facilitating the detachment of the bag. Figure 8 shows a combination of the base 1 and the holder projections 2 attached as a separate piece to the straight outer surface of the handle of the leash reel frame 25.

The holder can be manufactured also so that it is > gral with the leash reel frame, for example by forming the friction Vines and holder projections 2 in the straight area between the handle 26 and a disc 27 containing the actual reel, in the leash reel frame halves during the moulding of plastic in order to be of the same material, and the final holder will be formed when the halves are joined together.

The cardboard used in the box 3 can be any suitable cardboard, for example recycled board. The cardboard can be surface-treated at least on the outer walls for the weather-resistance of the box. Moreover, it can contain information, such as printing containing the directions for use. The bags to be used can be any material generally used for this purpose. A suitable material for facilitating the detachment of the bags is HDPE polyethylene. Bags manufactured of a suitable degradable plastic or other material degradable in the environment can also be considered.
