Abstract

The invention refers to a device for sucking juice directly from citrus fruit comprising a rigid elongated straw (12) provided with annular cup (14), concave downward, sealed or tight slidable on the straw, said cup, after the insertion of the straw into the fruit, being pushed in contact with the surface of the fruit to provide a tight sealing of the entry hole of the straw into the fruit.

Claims

8AMENDED CLAIMS[received by the International Bureau on 2 May 1995 (02.05.95); original claim 7 cancelled; original claims 1, 2, 4 and 5 replaced by amended claim 1; original claims 3 and 6 replaced by amended claims 2 and 3; new claims 4 and 5 added (2 pages)]
1. A device for sucking juice directly from citrus fruit comprising a rigid elongated straw having, externally sealed on the middle of his length, a concave dow¬ nward annular cup provided at his periphery with a sharp edge rigid circular lip extending downward for 0.2-2 mm, the lower part of the straw under the cup being provided with a series of circumferentially and vertically spaced small through holes and having a flute beack type angular cutted lower end.
2. A device according to claim 1, in which the cup is provided with a upper collar and is tight slidable along the straw.
3. A device according to claim 1 in which the external cross-section of the straw is lenticular, triangular, square, rectangular or polygonal.
4. Use of a device according to claims 1 or 2, for obtaining juice directly from citrus fruit without squeezing the fruit, by sequentially: inserting the lower part of the straw into the fruit at the point opposing the steam, manually displacing this lower part in various positions within the fruit to disrupt the pulp, pushing by fingers the cup on tight contact with the fruit rind and sucking juice at the upper end of the straw.
5. Process for sucking juice directly from citrus fruit conprising: a) inserting into the fruit, at the point opposing the steam, the lower part of a rigid elongated straw having, externally sealed on the middle of his length, a concave downward annular cup provided at his periphery with a sharp edge rigid circular lip extending downward for 0.5-2 mm, the lower part of the straw under the cup being provided with a series of circumferen¬ tially and vertically spaced small through holes and having a flute beack angular cutted lower end, b) manually displacing said inserted lower part of the straw in various positions within the fruit to disrupt the pulp, c) pushing by fingers the cup in tight contact with the fruit rind; d) sucking the juice at the upper end of the straw and, when sucking no longer yields juice, e) partially raising the straw and repeating steps
(b) , (c) and (d) till at least 80% of the citrus juice is extracted.

STATEMENT UNDER ARTICLE 19
The amended claim 1 finds support in the original claims 1, 2, 4 and 5 and in the description.
The amended claim 2 finds support in original claims 1 and 3.
New claims 4 and 5 find support in the original claim 1 and in the description.
In claim 1, the combination of features (a) , that the cup has on his periphery a sharp edge downturned for 0.2-2 mm circular lip, (b) that the cup is sealed on the middle of straw lenghtε, (c) that the lower part of the straw under the cup has a series of through holes and (d) has a flute beack type cut end, is not shown by the single device of the references cited in the International Search Report.
The device of DE-A-3,401,973 does not show the above features from (a) to (d) .
The device of US-A-1, 882, 065 does not show the features (b) and (d) but shows that the upper part of the straw above the cup is formed as an oval short mouth-piece.
The device of GB-A-344,260 does not show the features (a) and (b) .
The device os GB-A-402,029 does not show the features (a) and (b) but show that the lower part of the cup is formed as a worm.
The devices of US-A-2, 807,205 and US-A- 1,432,166 do not show the features from (a) to (d) but show a complicated structure.
