Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a brake disc for a disc brake, which is provided in particular for commercial vehicles.
  • Brake discs of the generic type have a central opening, the diameter of which corresponds approximately to that of the axle of the vehicle to be braked; after the brake disc has been placed on the axle via this opening, the brake disc can be fastened to the wheel hub with the aid of screws.
  • an annular flange surface is formed on the central opening of the brake disc, which flange is shaped in accordance with the respective shape of the wheel hub and has a number of bores corresponding to the number of screws.
  • a major problem with the attachment of a conventional brake disc of this type to the wheel hub is, however, that the braking torque occurring during braking is transmitted to the wheel hub essentially via frictional engagement.
  • the assembly costs are correspondingly increased due to the increased expenditure of time when using a large number of screws.

  • This type of fastening has the further advantage that in the event of heavy braking stress, inevitable thermal expansions of the brake disc are safely absorbed by the screw fastening or are not transmitted to the wheel hub, so that a very gentle fastening is achieved.
  • the high heat transfer resistance value provided according to the invention has another positive effect: in the immediate vicinity of the flange area of the brake disc there are the wheel bearings in the wheel hub, the thermal load capacity of which is narrowly limited; in particular, if there is excessive heat input into the wheel bearings, there is a risk that they will overheat and thereby cause wheel locking.

  • Such a composite disc has a lower weight than a solid-ßuß-disc and also allows, if necessary, a simplified manufacture of the form-fitting, since the sheet metal part 2 can be brought into its final shape by a single stamping process, so that complex processing steps can be omitted.
  • the sheet metal part 15 is preferably made of stainless steel or the like, no corrosion can occur, which is advantageous in terms of quick disassembly of the brake disc 1.
  • An essential feature of the embodiments of the brake disc shown in FIGS. 8B and 8C is that the sheet metal part 15 is connected to the friction ring 15 in such a way that its peripheral region 15] is shaped such that the flange surface 2 is essentially in the same shape as the Reference numeral D designated diameter plane of the friction ring 16 is, as is readily apparent from the figures.
  • This geometrical arrangement means that essentially no tilting moment is exerted on the fastening screws 20, so that the screw fastening can be dimensioned correspondingly weaker.

  • This variant is therefore particularly suitable for attachment to a conventional wheel hub.
