Abstract

In prior art transport packages of the type described in the preamble, the appliance is encased in a cardboard carton, the rear wall of which is stiffened by an internal timber frame and into which are inserted additional supporting and filling components made of timber and cardboard. The structure of the package of the invention with a plastic rear wall (12) and other wall sections (14, 16, 18, 20, 22) secured together to be movable in rotation and preferably also consisting of plastic panels requires no additional filling components and is environmentally friendly because its components can be re-used. The preferred application is as packaging for gas water heaters.

Description

Transport packaging for large-volume devices such as heaters, refrigerators and the like

State of the art

The invention is based on a transport packaging according to the preamble of the main claim. In a known packaging of this type, a cardboard box is used as the casing, which is stiffened by an internal wooden frame, which also carries the holding elements preventing the device from tipping in the casing. When packing, the cardboard box is first pushed in the form of a sleeve closed on the longitudinal edges over the wooden frame and the device lying on it. Then additional support and filling elements made of wood and cardboard are inserted into the gap between the device and the casing, the base buffer plate is attached to the underside of the device and the end wall parts on the side walls of the casing are folded against one another in pairs and clamped together. In addition to the actual covering, this embodiment requires several additional packaging elements which, like the cardboard box forming the covering, can still be used after use, but can no longer be used again. The arrangement according to the invention with the characterizing features of the main claim has the advantage that a wooden frame stiffening the rear wall and supporting the holding elements is omitted and, apart from the floor buffer plate, no further filling and supporting elements are provided and have to be introduced into the casing by additional operations. Furthermore, at least the rear wall of the packaging, which is designed as a plastic plate, can be reused for reuse.

Advantageous developments of the arrangement according to the main claim are possible due to the features listed in the subclaims.

In a preferred embodiment, the front wall and the side and end walls are designed as plastic plates which are connected to one another in a rotatable manner by hinges. This results in a particularly environmentally friendly packaging concept in which all parts can be reused.

In order to be able to adapt the packaging to different types of devices without any noteworthy change, it is proposed that the holding elements be adjustably attached to the rear wall.

The features contained in claims 4-7 facilitate the assembly of the parts when folding into the jacket shape or placing on the rear wall and on the device. In addition, it is achieved that only the head-side end wall has to be held on the rear wall by an additional locking means in order to hold the individual parts of the packaging together in the finished wrapping form so that they are ready for transport. To lock the head-side end wall on the rear wall, at least one holding engagement provided on these parts can preferably be designed as a latching connection. In addition, a tensioning element, e.g. B. an adhesive tape can be applied over parts of the front wall and the rear wall.

Description of the embodiment

The packaging for a heater 10, e.g. B. a wall-mounted gas-water heater has a casing which consists of a rear wall 12, a front wall 14, two side walls 16, 18, a bottom end wall 20 and a top end wall 22. All wall parts 12 to 22 are designed as plastic plates with corresponding stiffening ribs. A bottom buffer plate 24 is arranged inside the casing, on which the heater 10 is seated when the transport is stationary and which in turn is supported on the bottom end wall 20. The floor buffer plate 24 is designed to be resilient, made of the same plastic as the other elements and is provided with lugs 26, 28, 30 which rest on inner parts of the heater 10 and prevent the floor buffer plate 24 from shifting laterally relative to the seated heater 10. Provided in the rear wall 12 are two elongated holes 32, one behind the other in FIG. 1, in each of which a hook-shaped holding element 34 can be clamped at different heights. The two holding elements 34 engage behind a cross strut 36 of the internal device support frame and hold the device against the floor buffer plate 24 against tipping.

The two side walls 16, 18 and the two end walls 20, 22 are rotatably connected to the front wall 14 by preferably integrally molded hinge elements and are formed on the hinge-side edges so that they come from a position of use at right angles to the front wall 14 against the inside of the front wall 14 are pivotable into a non-use position lying parallel to the front wall 14. It is the arrangement made so that the hinge axes 38 of the side walls 16, 18 have a smaller distance from the front wall 14 than the hinge axes 40 of the end walls 20, 22 and the distances are selected such that after folding the side walls 16, 18 depending on the width of the device next to - Or lie one above the other on the front wall 14 and the end walls 20, 22 on the side walls 16, 18. The rear wall 12 is provided at the bottom with three elongate projections 42, one behind the other in FIG. 1, which engage in corresponding slots 44 in the bottom end wall 20. The side walls 16, 18 have bayonet-like recesses 46 on their longitudinal edges assigned to the rear wall 12, which recesses 46 are used for inserting and receiving projections 48 formed on the rear wall 12. At the lower edge, the side walls 16, 18 have slots 50, into which hook-like projections 52 of the end wall 20, which are provided with holding shoulders oriented parallel to the end wall plane, engage. The head-side end wall 22 is laterally provided with downwardly projecting edge strips 54, which fit over strip-like projections 56 of the side walls 16, 18. The head-side end wall 22 also has, in FIG. 1, opaque slots 58, through which latching members 60 pass, which are integrally formed on the rear wall 12. Each locking member 60 has a locking head 62 which engages behind a locking shoulder 64 on the end wall 22 when it is folded onto the upper end edge of the rear wall 12.

The heater 10 is first placed on the back wall 12 during packaging so that the holding elements 34 engage behind the cross strut 36 of the device support frame. The rear wall 12 preferably lies horizontally on a base. Then the bottom buffer plate 24 placed on the underside of the heater 10 in the correct position. In the next step, the bottom end wall 20 and then the side walls 16, 18 are opened at right angles to the front wall 14, the projections 52 on the end wall 20 entering the slots 50 in the side walls 16, 18. The end wall 20 can then no longer move back against the front wall 14. The jacket structure thus folded, closed on one end side, is now placed on the rear wall 12 and the heater 10 in a position in which the lateral projections 48 of the rear wall 12 into the insertion regions of the bayonet-like recesses, when the end wall 22 on the head side is brought into the extended position to the front wall 14 46 of the side walls 16, 18 occur. The jacket structure is then displaced in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the heater 10, the projections 48 of the rear wall 12 entering the locking areas of the bayonet-like recesses 46. The end wall 22 on the head side is then folded into the closed position, the latching members 60 on the rear wall 12 engaging behind the latching shoulders 64 on the end wall 22 and holding them in the closed position against unintentional loosening. In this position, the end wall 22 additionally holds the side walls 16, 18 in the opened position by means of its edge strips 54, which results in a closed, transport-resistant casing of the heater 10 in cooperation with the other holding interventions on the side and end walls. The bottom buffer plate 24 is dimensioned so that it is held practically without play in the closed casing.

In cooperation with the holding elements 34 on the rear wall 12, the heater is held in the transport packaging without play and without tipping over, without additional filling elements having to be introduced into the packaging. For better handling of the packaging unit, the side walls 16, 18 and the top and bottom end walls 20 and 22 are provided with grip holes 66. In addition, at the upper, outer corner areas of the side walls 16, 18 slightly recessed corrugated surfaces 68 attached. If necessary, in addition to the snap connection, the upper end wall 22 can be connected to the rear wall 12 by an adhesive tape or the like.

When the packaging is not in use, the side walls 16, 18 and then the end walls 20, 22 are folded against the front wall 14 and then the rear wall 12 is placed on the end walls 20, 22. The end walls 20, 22 and the rear wall 12 are provided on the surfaces facing each other in this position with means, not shown, for mutual centering and holding, so that all parts of the packaging are stored as a space-saving unit before or after use and after the attachment of straps or the like and can be transported.

In order to be able to stack several packages folded together in this way, the upper and lower ends of the front wall 14 preferably have stacking cams 70 (FIG. 7) which protrude perpendicularly to the surface of the front wall 14 when the end walls 20, 22 are folded and when several packages are stacked in recesses 72 of the front walls 14 and 14 * grip (Figure 8).

In particular, in order to enable horizontal transport, with the packaging resting on the rear wall 12, provision can be made for the attachment 26 not on the bottom buffer plate 24 but on the rear wall 12. As a result, the gap between the device 10 and the rear wall 12 can be reduced. Furthermore, further approaches similar to the approach 26 can be provided in the area of the elongated holes 32, on which the device is then supported when the transport is lying down. In a further embodiment, it can be provided to insert a ceiling buffer plate similar to the floor buffer plate 24 between the top of the device and the end wall 22 on the head side. This is particularly advantageous when holding elements 34 cannot be attached. As an alternative to the recess 46 and the projection 48, according to FIG. 4, a bayonet lock, according to FIG. 9, can have a recess 146 with an abutment shoulder 174 into which a projection 148 with a collar 176 engages. The collar 176 engages behind the corresponding abutment shoulder 174, as a result of which an undesired opening of the side wall 116 is avoided.

A special base plate 124 for shock-sensitive devices has elastic areas 178, 180, 182 which allow a shock to be absorbed resiliently and the device to be moved back into the starting position after the shock.
