Definitions

  • the invention concerns a chemico-physical process to prevent counterfeit of paper documents. It is well known that words written on such documents can be erased and replaced with others, by illecit and fraudulent means, and that this is done particularly on bank cheques to make possible illegal withdrawals from current accounts held by banks. To oppose these practices attempts have been made to spread chemicals on cheques so as better to fix the wri ⁇ ting on the paper but this method implies considerable problems because of the operations needed to carry it out especially when there are large numbers of cheques, and does not really eliminate counterfeiting.
  • Purpose of the above invention is to ensure greater pro ⁇ tection for documents, especially for bank cheques, at the same time simplifying the necessary operations as will be explained below.
  • Subject of the invention is a process for incorpora ⁇ ting and protecting hand-written or printed wording on paper documents, especially that on bank cheques and the like.
  • the paper base comprises microcapsules containing co ⁇ louring matter dissolved in solvent and is treated with acids such as kaolin , resins and similar substances.
  • a transparent sheet is applied to said paper base by means of an adhesive which is also transparent.
  • the pressure exerted by hand or machine means that the text will be formed inside the paper base as well, due to breakage of the microcapsules and reaction of the colouring matter with the acid environment of the paper base.
  • the transparent sheet ensures full pro ⁇ tection of the wording so incorporated.
  • the transparent adhesive can also comprise microcapsules containing colouring matter dissolved in solvent and these too react with the paper base when said microcap- sules are broken by pressure during writing.
  • the paper base may be supplied to the user already asso ⁇ ciated, by means of the adhesive, to the transparent sheet or else the transparent sheet is applied after the writing is done .
  • manual action to write- the wording with a pen, or similar action with a typewriter is done over the transparent sheet which transfers the pressure to the paper base needed for breaking the microcapsules. Permanent wording on the document can be printed on the transparent sheet.
  • the transparent sheet is protected on the surface treated with transparent adhesive, by a covering sheet repellent to adhesive.
  • the wording can therefore be hand written or typed onto the paper base and the transparent sheet applied after ⁇ wards having first detached the adhesive repelling sheet over it .
  • said repel ⁇ ling sheet can be detached to allow the impregnated sur ⁇ face of the transparent sheet to adhere to the compiled cheque and then said sheet can be detached together with the cheque along a prepared tear-off line.
  • the chequebook it will be advantageous to put the chequebook in a case made from two strips of material underneath the chequebook of the same width as that of the chequebook and joined at the two ends.
  • the flat base of a sli ⁇ ding means obtained from said base is inserted together with a roller, parallel to said base,- of a small diameter, said roller turning freely in slots cut in small plates at the ends of said base and perpendicular, to it.
  • the chequebook is placed between the flat base and the slider roller which is moved close to the point where the cheques are attached. After compiling a cheque and having detached the repellent sheet from the transparent sheet above it, by moving the slider towards the open end of the chequebook, ressure of the roller on the transparent sheet will determine complete and uniform adhesion of said sheet to the com ⁇ piled cheque . Roller pressure is facilitated by the roller being free to translate inside the slots towards the chequebook.

Between said strips is laid the flat base-31 of the sliding means 30 comprising the plates 32, 33 that can translate freely between said strips of material.
  • Said plates contain slots 35 perpendicular to the base 31 within which the ends 41 and 42 of the roller 40 can freely rotate and translate in relation to said base 31.
  • the chequebook case 20 can be easily folded in the middle as seen in Fig. 6 like an ordinary pocket book or wallet.
  • Fig. 7 shows the chequebook case 20 complete with cheque ⁇ book 10 placed between the base 31 of the sliding means 30 and the roller 40.
  • the slider 30 To use the slider 30, it is moved as far as it will go to the left and this determines detachment of the initial part 16 of the adhesive-repellent sheet 14 (Fig. 8).
  • the cheque 11 is then filled up. Having done this, initial detachment of the adhesive-repel- lent sheet 14 is taken further thus favouring adhesion of the transparent sheet 12 to the che.que 11.
  • the slider 30 is pushed to the right holding firm the end of the chequebook 10 with the left hand (Fig. 9). This operation determines adhesion of the transparent sheet 12 to the cheque 11 and automatic detachment of the whole of the adhesive-repellent sheet 14 (Fig. 10).
  • Fig. 11 illustrates a variant consisting in the fact that the cheques 51 in the chequebook 50 have a paper base 52 like those already described in Figs. 1-4, 7-10, and a trans parent sheet 53 stably associated to it by means of the transparent adhesive 54.
  • the fixed wording basic to the cheque may or may not be prin ted on this sheet. Writing to compile the cheque is done straight onto the transparent sheet and penetrates inside the paper base 52 on breaking the microcapsules containing colouring matter.
