Definitions

  • the present invention concerns a protective device for storage rooms or cargo holds, especially on ships. It comprises a flexible cover arranged on the hold's coaming. In the cover there is an opening for introducing and connecting a loading/unloading device.
  • Norwegian patent application No. 882272 shows another arrangement for covering a loading hatch. It comprises a cover fastened to a circular ring with a central opening for a loading channel which can be moved radially within the ring.
  • the arrangement will automatically produce a considerable amount of dust on the lower side of the construction and this will lead to coating on the wheel track. This will again demand a relatively large force for rotation.
  • the loading/unloading system cannot be easily steered to any position in the cargo hold and the system's pattern is locked to the construction itself. Consequently this leads to relatively large dead sectors in the corners.
  • French patent No. 2.457.214 shows the use of rectangular hatch coamings and a square hatch cover.
