Definitions

  • the invention is directed to a fastening device arrangement, where the fastening device comprises a preferably semiopen bracket portion arranged for the reception of a tube or the like, as well as a base portion for said bracket portion.
  • Brackets of the above described kind are widely used in sur ⁇ face installations for attaching tubes or the like to struc ⁇ tures. It is common to install several adjacent tubes onto such brackets, tube being attached to its own successive brackets, which are individually attached to an underlying structure. Quite often tubes of different sizes will run side by side, the tube dimensions varying between 10 to 28 mm, sometimes even more.
  • duplex type brackets are of simplex or duplex type structure, whereby the duplex type brackets comprise two parallel bracket portions of equal dimensions.
  • duplex type brackets are intended for two tubes of identical sizes.
  • the use of such duplex type brackets will not always be successful, because adjacently running tubes are not always of identical sizes.
  • the fitter must use simplex type brackets side by side, whereby the mutual distance between the tubes will not always remain constant.
  • a straight tubing run is rather important, not only for visual and dimensioning reasons, but also because the flow of medium running in the tubes should remain as straight and uniform as possible.
  • simplex type brackets is trouble ⁇ some, because each bracket must be both located and fastened independently.
  • the in- vention is characterized in that a separate intermediate piece is associated with tube fastening brackets intended to be installed in a side by side disposition, said intermediate piece being arranged to be located between said brackets at said installation and comprising a central portion arranged to be fastened to the underlying structure.
  • Fig 1 shows a tube fastening bracket according to one embodi ⁇ ment of the invention
  • Fig 2 correspondingly shows an intermediate fastener co ⁇ operating with a bracket according to Fig 1.
  • each bracket portion 1 comprises, on one hand, one-piece simplex type bracket 1 intended for tubes or the like of equal or different sizes, and, on the other hand, an intermediate piece 2 to be located at least between two such brackets.
  • the general character of each bracket portion 1 is suitably of a type which is known per se, said bracket portion thus comprising a base portion 3 to be arranged against an underlying structure, as well as a lug portion extending from said base portion, said lug portion preferably comprising opposing concave lugs 4, 5, between which a tube (not shown) will be located.
  • Said lugs 4, 5 are preferably slightly resilient, whereby the tube to be installed will be tightly held between said lugs.
  • Each bracket 1 is, in the usual manner, dimensioned so as to be suitably tight in accordance with the diameter of the tube or the like to be us d.
  • brackets 1 Each tube will be installed in a manner usual in the pro ⁇ profession, so as to run through the open lug portions 4, 5 of successively mounted brackets 1.
  • a separate intermediate piece 2 will now be used for fixing two adjacent simplex type brackets at a standard mutual distance defined by a base portion 17 of said intermediate piece, where ⁇ by also the mutual distance between tubes installed in said brackets 1 always will remain the same, independent of the tube dimension.
  • said brackets 1 may have a central hole 7 for a fastening screw or the like, whereby the same bracket may serve also as a separate bracket for one tube or the like. Said hole 7 may also be used for fastening the brackets for a group of adjacent tubes directly to the under ⁇ lying structure.
  • said intermediate portion 2 comprises shoulders 6 directed slantingly downwards, suitably at an angle of 10 * to 70 * in relation to the plane of the underlying structure, preferably at an angle of about 45' .
  • Each cor ⁇ responding surface of said base 3 of said bracket 1 comprises a slot formation 8, 9, the sides 10, 11 of which are cor ⁇ respondingly slanting at an angle inwards, in order to receive respectively a corresponding shoulder 6 extending from an adjacent intermediate piece 2.
  • said intermediate piece 2 is essentially of a sturdy structure, whereby a rigid and clearly defined attach ⁇ ment in accordance with the invention will be obtained.
  • At least said shoulder portion 6 of said intermediate piece 2 is at least slightly resilient in order to press said brackets slightly against said underlying structure in a manner allowing a certain degree of deformation, which is favorable especially if said underlying structure is uneven.
  • Each shoulder 6 favorably comprises a support means or claw 12 extending suitably downwards from the free end of said shoulder, whereby said slot formations 8, 9 of said base portion 3 of each bracket 1 correspondingly comprise a central slot 13 for receiving said support means or claw 12 in a suitably locking manner.
  • said intermediate piece 2 may be pressed into place before the installation, whereby said locking means will make sure that no bracket will come loose at the work and installation stage.
  • Said shoulder portions 6 of said intermediate piece 2 are suitably longitudinally split, so that they have a central notch 14, which to its shape corresponds to the shape of a usually shortish shaft portion 15, which connects said lug portion 4, 5 of said bracket 1 to said base portion 3.
  • Said notch 14 and said shaft portion 15 are, respectively, mutually preferably so shaped that said shoulder portions 6 of said intermediate piece 2 closely and suitably even slightly resiliently locking or snapping will settle closely to said shaft portion 15, whereby said shaft portion 15 will remain between the legs of said shoulder.
  • This structure also secures that said intermediate piece 2 will remain in its location during the actual fastening operation, which is favorable when the fastening is accomplished in narrow or otherwise difficult circumstances.
  • each intermediate piece 2 comprises a central portion 17, wherefrom shoulders 6 extend curving in a slanting angle downwards towards said underlying structure.
  • each side of said inter ⁇ mediate piece 2 usually connects to a respective bracket piece, whereby said shoulders 6 will push into said slot formations 8, 9 located at the outer edges of said base 3 of each bracket 1.
  • Said slot formations 8, 9 themselves are formed by side portions 10, 11 sloping slantingly towards the center of said base portion 3, as may be seen in Fig 1.
  • side walls 18 of said base portion 3 of said bracket 1 will wedge themselves closely against walls 19 of said central portion 17 of said intermediate piece 2, whereby the proper position of said bracket 1 will be secured.
  • brackets are installed side by side, suitably ⁇ so that the tube brackets are attached to the underlying structure utilizing said intermediate pieces, after which said tubes or the like are snapped into place between said lugs of said brackets.
  • the tubes may be of different or equal sizes, since brackets of different sizes may be interconnected due to said intermediate pi-ece.
  • brackets 1 are first attached to the tube to be fastened, said tube being essentially loose, after which the fitting and fastening is accomplished with a respective intermediate piece 2.
  • the instal ⁇ lation comprises more than two parallel tubes or the like the installation is continued with a further intermediate piece 2 and a bracket 1.
  • the system according to the invention may also be utilized so that intermediate pieces of different lengths are used in the installation.
  • the system may also comprise such intermediate pieces, which only at one end have an above described shoulder 6 adapted for a bracket, while the other end acts as an adapter piece against, for instance, a wall or for the adaptation of the inventive system into con ⁇ nection with another installation system.
  • the fastening system according to invention is suitably made of plastic or the like durable and preferably slightly resilient material.
  • bracket structure according to the invention also may be utilized for fastening other oblong objects, like plumbing and electric wiring, where the problem comprises the mutually adjacent attachment of several pieces of different diameters.
