Abstract
A pipe support comprises a member that is provided with fixing means to the structural member to which it is to be fixed and which includes locations for attaching members for supporting pipes and conduits. The member may be a support cradle which is provided with a key type or snap fit connection for joining with the structural member.
Description
WALL MOUNTED PIPE SUPPORT SYSTEM
I, John Adams hereby declare an invention for which I wish a patent to be granted to me and which is described in and by the following statements.
The invention relates to a pipe support devices for the quick installation of pipes and conduits. In the Building Industry there is frequently a need to run, in parallel, several water pipe, gas pipe and electrical conduits side by side along walls or other building surfaces both horizontally and vertically and at other angles. The objective of this invention is to provide a simple way of providing this support in a tidy and firm manner. According to this invention a "support platform" is provided into which support cradles of a variety of sizes and shapes can be attached to provide a simple to apply support structure that will hold the aforementioned pipes and conduits in a neat parallel arrangement. On objective of this is to provide controlled spacing of these pipes or conduits without the need for each individual support cradle to be fixed to the building structure with its own screw. Thus speeding up installation time. The support cradles can also be re-arranged on the support platform after the support platform has been secured in place.
The construction of the device is now described with reference to the attached drawings: Figure 1 Shows the described assembly in place on the building structure, both in plan and front elevations.
Figure 2 Shows the general construction of the assembly.
Figure 3 Shows a means of restraining the support cradles.
Figure 4 Shows an alternative means of restraining the support cradles.
Figure l shows the general arrangement of the assembly in-situ against a wall. Its function is described as follows: The support platform l is fixed onto the wall 2 by means of screws 3&4. The support cradles 5,6&7 are "keyed" into holes in support platform 1. The pipes 8,9&10 are located in the support cradles.
Figure 2 shows cross section "AA" of Figure 1. It will be seen from cross section "AA" that the support platform l is of "hollow" construction Figure 3 shows the construction of one of the support cradles and how it is retained in the support platform by inserting the "keys" 11&12 on the stem of the support cradle into the "keyhole" 13 in the support platform and partially rotating it so that the "keys" l 1&12 are trapped by the under surface of the support platform. A ghost view of 1 l&12 in their assembled positions is shown, for example, at positions 14&15.
Figure 4 shows an alternative construction of the cradle support, which allows an alternative method of fixing the support cradles to the support platform. In this instance the enlarged end "A" of the support cradle is fed through the large hole "B" in the support platform 1 and is slid sideways so that the enlarged end "A" (shown in ghost as "C") is trapped under the support platform underside. The throat "D" in the support platform 1 is sized to snap around the stem "E" of the support cradle.
The cradle part of the support cradle is of known art and employing the natural elasticity of the material snap fits onto the pipework or conduit
Claims (5)
1. A pipe support comprising a member that is provided with simple fixing means to the structural member to which it is to be fixed and which includes locations for attaching members for supporting pipes and conduits
2. Members according to claim 1 which can be moulded in a suitable plastic material
3. Members according to claim 1 which can be produced by a casting process
4. A device according to claim 1 in which the pipe support members are trapped in position in the main member
5. A device according to claim 1 in which the attached pipe support members can be fixed into position after the main support member has been fixed in the position in which it is to be used
