Abstract

Composite textile material, comprising a space which is bounded at one side by a lining material (2) or rear sheet and at the other side by a translucent material (1) or front sheet of material. The space is filled with a coloured filler material (3). Due to the fact that a closable opening (6) is present in the rear sheet (2) of material, this filler material can be replaced as desired, in order to obtain different colour combinations.

Description

Composite textile material, and consumer articles such as a garment made therefrom.
The invention relates to a composite textile material, comprising a space which is bounded at one side by a lining material and at the other side by a translucent material, while a coloured filler material is placed in the space.
Such a composite textile material is known from US Patent Specification 1,924,935. The translucent material in this case is a woven material which is not completely clear. It is proposed that a relatively thin silk should be used for it. Although such a composite textile material is suitable for certain more luxury garments, it is totally unsuitable for more heavy-duty garments which can be worn outdoors.
The object of the present invention is to provide a composite textile material in which, on the one hand, the advantageous appearance of the filler is retained but, on the other, the careful handling which was custom- ary with the hitherto known materials in which the filler was visible is not necessary.
This object is achieved in the case of the composite textile material described above in that the translucent synthetic material comprises a clear water- proof material, and in that the lining is provided with closable openings for changing the filler material.
The use of a clear translucent synthetic material means that provision can be made against weather effects and the like in optimum conditions, while a considerable strengthening is obtained.
It is pointed out that it is known from Dutch Patent Application 7207799 to use two sheets of material lying on top of one another, at least one of which is at least partially translucent. This is carried out in such a way that the so-called moire effect is obtained. There is no intention here of inserting filler material between the sheets. The same applies to the textile material shown in PCT Application 87/02226.
British Patent Specification 818,304 discloses the use of a semi-translucent covering made of nylon or similar materials. The disadvantage here is that this material is not clear, while in the longer term it is not waterproof either.
According to another advantageous embodiment, the closure for the opening is Velcro. Needless to say, all other means known in the state of the art can be used for the purpose, for example buttons, zips etc.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the sheet of material is transparent synthetic materials Many suitable materials are known for this in the state of the art. For garments, it is preferable to use materials which, on the one hand, permit breathing and, on the other are moisture-proof. In other words, moisture vapour from the body is allowed through, but rain is not. The filler which is now visible can be made in various ways. First, it can be made of a number of different material parts, which gives it a lively appear¬ ance. In order to emphasise this, the material parts can be of different colours. It is also possible (possibly in combination) for each of the material parts to be multi¬ coloured. According to a special embodiment of the invention, the filler comprises plastic beads. A special moving effect during movement of the composite textile material is obtained in this way. In order to keep such fillers in place, the composite textile material according to the invention comprises compartmenting means. These can comprise all measures known in the state of the art, such as seams. The invention also relates to a garment made of the composite textile material described above.
The invention will be illustrated in greater detail below with reference to an example of an embodi¬ ment shown in the drawing.
Fig. 1 shows a front view of the textile material according to the invention, and Fig. 2 a cross-section along the line II - II in Fig. 1.
The material shown in the figures comprises a front sheet 1 and a rear sheet 2, between which filler material 3 is confined. According to the invention, the front sheet 1 is made non-transparent. Compartmenting means 4 are present in order to hold the filler material 3 in place. The filler 3 shown in the figure is composed of parts 5. Sheet 2 can be transparent or otherwise. Through the use of at least partially non-transparent material for sheet 1, the parts 5 will remain visible, which gives a special appearance.
Although the invention is described above with reference to the embodiment which is currently preferred, it will be understood that many variations are conceiv¬ able without going beyond the scope of the present invention.
As can be seen from Fig. 1, the lining or rear sheet 2 is provided with an opening 6 which can be closed by means of Velcro 7.
This makes it simple to insert all kinds of combinations of filler material 3 in the compartments concerned and to change and vary them as desired.
For the front or translucent sheet all waterproof synthetic materials known in the state of the art which are completely clear can be used.
The textile material according to the invention is particularly suitable for making garments. Other consumer articles such as sleeping bags or rucksacks can, however, also be made from said textile material.
Although the invention is described above with reference to the embodiment which is currently preferred, it will be understood that many variations are conceiv¬ able without going beyond the scope of the present invention.
