Abstract

The method of cutting amorphous materials by using thin high pressure liquid stream to cut strips, plates and round cores. The face of the cut is very smooth and the cutting does not cause cracking or melting of the materials.

Description

Method of Gutting Amorphous Materials Using Liquid.
A primary object of the invention is cutting on any profile amorphous materials without changing their physical structure.
Amorphous Materials (Metalic Glass - the United
States Patent No.4, 298,382. as a thin ribbon
(maximum .04 mm) are currently produced for example by: Allied Corporation in United States, Goodfellow in united kingdom, Vacuumschmelze GMBH in Germany.
Losses of energy in the amorphous materials are
5 to 1U times lower than in silicon steel which is generally used for magnetic circuits production.
Amorphous materials are laminated on strips and
plates according to the United States Patent
Mo. 4,529,458 and compacted by varnish (glued).
Amorphous materials are very brittle and hard.
Their Vickers Hardness are 1050 to 1100.
Standard cutting methods for example: the guilotine, blank die are not suitable for cutting the amorphous materials. Material is mechanically stressed and
cracks. Laser and EDM cutting methods melt the amorphous material and cause undesirable crystallization.
Additionally these methods make undesirable
connection between separated amorphous ribbons in laminated plates, strips and cores. These connections cause increase of eddy current and additional losses of energy in amorphous materials.
Information about a research of cutting method
were published [1] These problems are overcome by the present invention which makes possible to cut the amorphous materials without cracking, melting and unesirable crictallization, connetions between separated amorphous ribbons in
laminated plates, strips and cores. According to
this invention the amorphous ribbons and laminated, on any method, from these ribbons strips, plates and cores, before and after annealing process recommended by producers can be on any profile.
This cutting method makes possible to cut the
amorphous materials on a profile is suitable for
production electric motors, generators, transformers, choices etc. from amorphous materials.
For example: to cut out skewed slots, filed poles, and any circles in amorphous materials for electric motors and generators production, to cut out any
profiles in amorphous strips for the best overlapping stacked core magnetic circuits, to cut wound cores from amorphous ribbons.
The cutting is made using the liquid cutting machine.
The face of the cut is very smooth and without
cracking and melting.
To assist with understanding this invention,
reference will be made to accompanying with
the drawting.
FIG. 1 shows the cutting process - diagram.
Referring to FIG. 1 it can be seen that:
The head 1 can move left-right, up-down, back-forward. High pressure liquid 2 is supplied to the Jewel 3.
Gutting powder 5 is added in connection 6.
Cutting stream is coming to the nozzle 8. The nozzle
8 puts high pressure liquid stream on the amorphous material 4 and cuts it.
The amorphous material 4 is laid down on fins 7 and it is fixed mechanically or by magnetic field. The cutting liquid machine operates according to program or manually.
The method of cutting amorphous material using liquid was used to cut amorphous ribbons laminated strips and a single ribbons Metglas 2605S-2 and the cutting was made by Water Cutting Machine
Wizzard 2000.
These profiles which were cut out are shown
on FIG. 2.
On FIG. 2 are shown examples of profile which can be cut out from the amorphous materials.
