Definitions

  • the present invention concerns a device at a trailer, e.g. a tractor trailer, comprising a- U-shaped bearing frame provided with wheels, skids or the like, and a loading frame mounted co- axially within the bearing frame, the frames being articulated together allowing for a relative rotary motion about a transr versal axis in a distance from the frames* ends and arranged to raise the loading frame by means of the articulate connection from a substantially horizontal first position in the vicinity of the ground the trailer is situated on, into a predeterminated inclined position over the ground by means of a relative rotary motion between the frames being activated by a power appliance connected to the front part of the bearing frame.
  • a trailer e.g. a tractor trailer
  • a loading frame mounted co- axially within the bearing frame, the frames being articulated together allowing for a relative rotary motion about a transr versal axis in a distance from the frames* ends and arranged to raise the loading frame by means of the articulate connection from a substantially horizontal first position in
  • a device of this type is disclosed in Norwegian laid open patent application No. 880926.
  • the loading frame in elevated transport position will immediately become inclined in relation to the horizontale plane, something which will often represent a drawback if the device is applied to transfer of other objects than hay balls, such as pallets, bags etc.
  • US patent No. 1.412.504 shows a trailer device where a loading frame can be moved from a lower horizontal position to an upper horizontal position by means of a pantograph mechanism, but the lower position is kept substantially over the terrain level, which represents difficult loading, and the construction is rather complicated.
  • the disclosures of Norwegian patent No. 143137, GB No. 1.473.127, GB No. 1.351.565 and US patent No. 4.685.855 represent other examples of prior art showing more or less complicated devices for lifting and transport of articles.
  • the present invention aims at provision of a device of the above described type having a simple construction, e.g. for transport of pallets or the like, where the loading frame being lifted from a position close to the ground will remain horizontal also in its transporting position.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a universal device at a reasonable price which can be used for several functions as e.g. picking up objects (stones, potatoes) , harrow or levelling device.
  • blocking interlocking means placed between the bearing and the loading frame and thus ensures possibility to lift the loading frame further on from the inclined position to the second, substantially horizontal position in a distance over the ground and where the loading frame is connected to the towing bar in a manner known per se.
  • blocking means in order to limit the loading frame's tilting angle in relation to a bearing frame on a vehicle, e.g. as disclosed in US 1.630.257 in connection with a lorry construction, but in this case the blocking means "will prevent any further motion of the loading frame when broug into the predeterminated tilting angle. Thus such blocking mea will not on its own be able to bring the frame in the desir elevated horizontal position over the ground.
  • Fig. 1 shows the device in a top view
  • Fig. 2 shows the device in a side view" with lowered loading frame
  • Fig. 3 shows the device in a side view with the loading frame in intermediate position/
  • Fig. 4 shows the device's loading frame in elevated and levelled final position
  • Fig. 5 illustrates an alternative final position of the device.
  • the device comprises an outer, substantially U-shaped frame o bearing frame 2, consisting mainly of a transversal beam 3 an two legs 4, each of them being at its free end mounted on bearing wheel 5.
  • Another inner or loading frame 6 having smaller width than th bearing frame 2 is coaxially arranged between the latter's leg 4 and articulated to these legs by joints 7 so that the tw frames 2,6 can rotate or tilt shearswise in relation to eac other about the transversal axis 7' extending in a distance f o the frame ends.
  • the loading frame 6 is also substantially U-shaped having a transversal beam 8 and legs
  • a towing bar 10 is centrally fastened to the transversal beam 8 by means of an articulate joint 11 and extends in the direction opposite to the legs 9.
  • the free end 12 of the towing bar 10 is adapted for a connection to a traction unit, e.g. a tractor (not shown) .
  • the towing bar 10 can be of a telescopic construction to allow a lengthwise regulation as suggested in Fig. 2 and provided with a supporting bar 17.
  • An upwardly extending arm 13 is rigidly connected to the bearing frame's 2 transversal beam 3 and at its upper end articulated to one end of a powering unit 15, preferably a hydraulic cylinder shown in the illustrated embodiment as a single operating hydraulic cylinder, which could be replaced by a double operat ⁇ ing one, having the other end 16 articulated to the towing bar
  • means 18 which at the predeterminated angle position between the bearing and loading frames will prevent any further change of the angle between the frames as explained in the following.
  • the mentioned means 18 are in the illustrated embodiment embodied as two chains of identical length having their ends symmetrically fastened to the frames 2,6 or transversal beams 3,8, respectively along the frames' longitudinal axis.
  • the device functions as follows: With the hydraulic cylinder in retracted position the loadin frame and possible load will rest on or in the vicinity of th ground 19 as shown in Fig. 2 in a substantially horizonta position. By activating the hydraulic cylinder the arm 1 * 3 wil swivel the bearing frame 2 upwardly and simultaneously the fram rotates along the mounting axis 5' of the wheels 5.
  • the chain 18 will prevent further increase of the angle ⁇ between the frames 2,6 and thus draw the loading frame's' front end part with attached towing bar 10 upwardly and the loading frame 6 simultaneously tilting along the articulate joint 7 between the two frames 2,6 under a gradual reduction of its inclinations in relation to the ground 19.
  • This movement will continue until the loading frame arrives at approximately horizontal position in a certain distance over the ground 19.
  • the hydraulic cylinder's motion will stop in this position and the device is ready to be transferred by means of the above mentioned traction unit maintaining the loading frame in such horizontal position.
  • the loading frame 6 can be maintained in substantially horizontal position even if steep slopes have to be forced along the transfer route by adjustment of the extension (stroke) of the hydraulic cylinder 15. It will be understood that the length of the chain 18 determines the maximal angle ⁇ Jt between the bearing and loading frames and the loading frame's 6 height over the ground 19 in a levelled position as well.
  • the loading frame When removing load from the loading frame 6 the loading frame is lowered back to the departing position as shown in Fig. 2 under retraction of the cylinder 15. In this position the load, e.g. a pallet can easily be pushed off the loading frame.
  • the chain 18 or other suitable chain or strap can be fastened around the front parts of the frames 2,6 (transversal beams) which in the ground position are situated close to each other.
  • the loading frame's front part being locked to the bearing frame's front part, will follow the latter*s upward motion during extension of the cylinder 15 while the rear part of the loading frame at the wheels 5 will be kept down at the ground level thanks to the gravity of the load.
  • the loading frame 6 will thus in this case perform a tilting motion opposite to the original one, similarly to a tilting lorry plane, until the cylinder is completely extended as shown in Fig. 5.
  • the cargo will thus, especially during simultaneous forward motion of the device, glide easily off the loading frame.
  • the present invention is not limited to the above described embodiments of the device.
  • the means 18 for limitation of the mutual angle dislocation of the frames 2,6 need not necessarily be strap or chain connections as shown in the example, but could be embodied as a hook device or the like being fastened to one of the frames and which at a predeterminated angle ctestablished between the frames will gra the other frame. Neither is there need for the means 17 to b disposed in front of the rotation axis 7' (which means in th direction of the towing bar 10) , but can * be situated on th opposite side of the joint 7, e.g. in the vicinity of the wheel 5.
  • the chain 18 or the mentioned equivalent means can be con nected to the towing Tar 10, instead of as shown to the loadin frame 6 close to the junction 11.
  • the wheels 5 can be exchange by skids, skis or the like.
  • the device according to the invention is also suited to be used in conncetion with different agricultural equipments, such as harrow, potato or stone picking devices which are installed on the loading frame 6.
