Abstract

By comparison with generally applied sowing methods, the effects of an agricultural machine with shares which cut over the whole of its working width are to promote growth and to conserve resources. The last-mentioned technology is nevertheless associated with problems essentially in the area of the design of combination points for tillage and sowing operations in a single pass. The execution of the combination points prior to this invention above all led to excessive drill formation after the rear points. The invention overcomes these problems in that the combination points (1) on the front row have significantly wider shares and associated broader devices (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10) for the application of seed and/or fertilizer below and behind the shares, and in that the shares of the outermost combination points (4) have their leading edges running inwards at an angle.

Description

COMBINATION SHARE ARRANGEMENT.
The invention relates to an arrangement in accordance with the intro¬ duction to Patent claim 1.
Background
In agriculture it is desirable to perform tillage, weed hoeing, seed and/or fertilizer application operations in a single pass. This can be done with combination points, which cut or scrape through the top surface layer of soil over the full working width of the agri¬ cultural machine. In comparison with the previously generally applied technology, involving harrowing followed by seed and/or fertilizer application, the combination point alternative designed in accordance with the foregoing gives much lower energy consumption, less soil compaction and much improved weed control.
The disadvantage associated with the previously disclosed design and arrangement of combination points with a full-width cutting width has been that the distance between the point supporting shafts was so small that the residue from the previous crop could easily cause blockages, or that the number of rows offset in relation to one another was so great that the machine became unmanageably long, or that the shape of the drill after the last offset row of points was excessive.
Object
The object of the invention is to overcome the shortcomings and in¬ conveniences which, according to the foregoing, are inherent in previously disclosed cultivation arrangements.

Figures 1 - 5 show that the front combination points have broader shares than the rear points, and that the shares of the outermost points only have inward-facing leading edges.
Description
The invention consists of combination points 1, 2 for use in tillage, weed hoeing, and seed and/or fertilizer application operations. These can be fitted to an agricultural machine in at least two rows offset relative to the direction of travel as shown in Figure 6, and in such a way that they are able to perform the aforementioned operations over the full width of the working width of the machine in'a single pass. Seed and/or fertilizer are transported through the point supporting shafts 3 and down to a position below the share of the points, at which it is placed by means of devices at a desired lateral poisition in relation to the bottom of the seed bed.
In the embodiment with two rows of combination points 1, 2 offset in relation to the direction of travel, all the points in the front row are executed with very much wider shares than those of the rear points 2, and with associated broader devices 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 for the application of seed and/or fertilizer below and behind the shares. The outermost points 4 in the arrangement have the leading edges of the shares running essentially inwards at an angle. The embodiment having two offset rows is illustrated in Fig. 1.
Embodiments with three (see Fig. 3), four (see Fig. 2) or more rows of combination points offset in relation to the direction of travel are in principle arranged similarly to the embodiment with two offset rows of points.
The use of broader devices in the soil on the front points 1 than on the rear points 2 makes it possible, with only two offset rows of combination points which cover the full working width of the agri¬ cultural machine, to achieve a relatively large lateral spacing between the supporting shafts for the points, but without the shape of the drill behind the rear points being excessive. This is achieved in that the devices in the soil on the rear points, and in particular the shares, are given a width adapted to that of the fron points. The rear points 2 will then break up the excessive drill left by the front points 1, and will position the drills behind them with uniform spacing. The arrangement of leading edges running essentially inwards at an angle on the shares of the outermost points 4 prevents the formation of drills outside the working width of the agricultural machine. If the seed placing is provided only by the front points 1, and the fertilizer placing only by the rear points 2, it is possible for fertilizer to be placed deeper than the seed (see Fig. 4), and yet for the invention to retain its capability of full-width tillage, a large lateral spacing between the point supporting shafts 3, rela¬ tively good spacing between the individual seeds, and uniform drill formation to the desired height.
The points can be arranged on an agricultural machine in a variety of ways. Fig. 6 shows a previously disclosed embodiment of precisely that. Fig. 7 shows how the channels beneath the point shares can be routed, in a previously disclosed fashion. Not previously disclosed, however, is the fact that the working width of both the point shares and the seed and/or fertilizer application devices 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 arranged below and behind them is very much greater for almost every front point 1 than the working width of the corresponding devices 11, 12, 13, 14 on the rear points 2.

Claims

Patent Claims
1. Arrangement for an agricultural machine with at least two rows of combination points (1, 2) offset in relation to the direction of travel which is capable of performing tillage, weed harrowing and seed and/or fertilizer application in the soil with the points (1, 2) in a single pass, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that, the point shares and the devices (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10; 11, 12, 13, 14) executed in a previously disclosed fashion beneath and/or behind them for the application of seed and/or fertilizer exhibit a significantly greater working width on almost every front point (1) in relation to the rear points (2) (Figs. 1-5).
2. Arrangement in accordance with Patent Claim 1, c h a r a c ¬ t e r i z e d in that, the outermost of all the combination points fitted to the agricultural machine exhibit leading edges on the shares which run entirely or essentially inwards at an angle (Figs. 1-5).
3. Procedure for the arrangement in accordance with the preceding Patent Claims, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that, the offset lateral distance relative to the direction of travel between the front devices of the combination points which work in the soil over a broad width is totally occupied by the corresponding devices of the rear combination points which, in the case of practically every rear point, are of a significantly narrower execution than those of the front points (Figs. 4, 5, 6 and 7).
4. Use of the arrangement and the procedure in accordance with the preceding Patent Claims, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that, the points are attached and executed in such a way that one type of material for example seed, through ducts (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10) on the front points can be placed in the soil in a band which is very much broader for every, or almost every, front point in relation to the rear points (2), and at a depth which is in¬ dependent of the rear points (2), and also in that another material, for example a seed of another type of plant or a fertilizer, through ducts (11, 12, 13, 14) can be placed in the soil in bands which are very.much narrower for each rear point (2) alongside the bands left by the front points(l) and at a working depth which is independent of the front points (1) by means of devices for depth control which operate in a previously disclosed fashion (Figs. 4, 6 and 7).
