Description

A device at mixers for two liquids
Technical field
The present invention refers to a device at mixers for two liquids, e.g. hot and cold water and incorporating a mixing
• house, which is provided with a first outlet and one inlet for each one of the liquids and control means for flow and temperature control of the escaping liquid, a valve housing, through which the liquids are intended to pass prior to reaching the mixing house, whereby the valve housing has a second outlet, which communicates with at least one of the supply channels for the two liquids, whereby in the valve housing is further provided a, valve for connecting the second outlet with either one of said supply channels and simultaneously closing of the connection between said outlet and the opposite supply channel.
Background of the invention
In SE-B-440265 is described a mixer of the type defined above, which has a closable additional outlet for connection of e.g. a dish washing machine, a washing machine or another water consuming device and where it is possible in a simple manner to alter a hot-water-connected machine to a cold- water-connected machine and vice versa. The valve housing, through which the liquids pass before they reach the mixing house, hereby is provided with a valve body, which is adjus- table to two positions for connection of the second outlet with either one of the supply channels for the two liquids. In the valve housing is furthermore provided a separate closing member for the second outlet.
Purpose and most essential features of the invention
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a mixer of the type mentioned in the preamble, which has a simple and compact design and where the functions of closing and adjustment between the two supply channels can be combined in a single control member. This has been achieved in that said valve is a three way valve, which independent of the position of said control member is adjustable to three posi¬ tions, one shut-off position in which said second outlet is shut off from communication with the supply channels for the two liquids and two positions in which the second outlet is connected with either one of said supply channels under simultaneous closing of the connection between the second outlet and the opposite supply channel.
Description of the drawings
The invention hereinafter will be further described with reference to an embodiment shown in the accompanying dra¬ wings.
Fig. 1 shows in a front view and partly in section a mixer according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section from the side of the mixer.
Fig. 3 shows in bigger scale and partly in section a portion of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4-7 show in perspective the components forming part of the valve, such as control knob, insert housing, rotary spindle and sealing plates.
Fig. 8-10 show in views from above the sealing plates of the valve in the three different adjustment positions. Fig. 11 shows a cross-section through the control knob and the rotary spindle cooperating therewith.
Description of embodiment
The mixing cock shown in Fig. 1 and 2 is of so called one- lever type and incorporates a mixing house 11 with a spout 12 and a control lever 13 by means of which the upper part 14 of the mixing house 11 at one hand is rotatable about a vertical axis and on the other hand is tiltable about a horizontal axis 15. An arm 16, which is fixedly connected to the lever 13, acts upon a moveable valve plate 17. This engages a second, fixed valve plate 18, which is equipped with two inlet openings (not shown) for cold and hot water resp. and an outlet opening 19, which via a channel communi¬ cates with the spout 12. The design of the mixing house 11 otherwise corresponds to what is shown in Swedish patent application no. 8101248-6 and does not form part of the present invention. The valve housing 20 is connected to feed pipes 22 and 23 for cold and hot water resp. and to a outlet pipe 24. The feed pipes 22, 23 and the outlet pipe communicate via channels 25 (only one shown) in the valve housing with a valve 27, which by means of a control knob 28 can be shifted for connecting either one of the supply channels to an outlet channel 26 and for closing off the connection between both feed channels 25 and the outlet channel 26.
The valve 27 incorporates two sealing plates, preferably made from ceramic material, an inner sealing plate 29 having three openings 30, 31 and 32 provided just in front of each one of the feed channels 25 and the outlet channel 26, and an outer sealing plate 33 having a sector shaped recess 34. The openings 30, 31, 32 on their sides facing the feed channels and the outlet channel resp. have widened portions 30a, 31a, 32a intended for a correspondingly shaped gasket. On the side of the inner sealing plate 29 facing the outer sealing plate 33 the outlet opening 32 has a sector shaped widened portion 32b, which cooperates with the sector shaped recess 34 of the outer sealing plate 33, and together with this defines a chamber for water entering the valve from the feed channels and before it has passed through the outlet opening 32. The sealing plates 29 and 33 are arranged in an insert housing 35, preferably made from plastic material, whereby the inner sealing plate 29 is non-rotatably connec¬ ted to the insert housing 35, in that this has a pair of recesses 36 for corresponding shoulders 37 on the sealing plate 29. The two recesses 36 and the shoulders 37 have different sizes, thus that the sealing plate 29 can be fitted in one single position in the insert housing 35 only. The insert housing 35 may also have slots 38 for defining resilient tongues, which are snap-locked over corresponding collars 39 on the sealing plate 29.
The outer sealing plate 33 has a number of recesses 40, which cooperate with corresponding shoulders 42 on a rotary spindle 41 for forming a fixed rotary connection to this. The rotary spindle 41 cooperates with the control knob 44 by means of a key grip 43 or the like.
The control knob 44 and the rotary spindle 41, which is fixedly connected thereto, are rotatable relative to the insert housing 35, whereby the rotary motion is limited by stop cleats 45, 46, 47 on the insert housing 35, which co¬ operate with a stop cleat 48 on the control knob 44. The control knob 44 thereby is rotatable between the position determined by the stop cleat 45, and constituting the shut- off position and anyone of the stop cleats 46 and 47, which determine the position either for the cold water or the hot water connection. In order to move the control knob 44 beyond the stop cleat 45, i.e. shifting between cold water and hot water connection, the control knob 44 must be remo¬ ved from the bolt 42 of the rotary spindle 41 and thereupon again fitted to this with the stop cleat 48 on the opposite side of the stop cleat 45 of the insert housing 35. These positions are indicated on the control knob with appropriate symbols (Fig. 1).
Fig. 8 shows the valve in closed position, whereby none of the inlet openings 30, 31 communicate with the outlet ope¬ ning 32. In Fig. 9 and 10 the valve is shown in its two alternative open positions with either one of the inlet openings 31 and 30 resp. in communication with the outlet opening 32.
The valve thus may be shifted, with a simple turning of the control knob, from either one of the positions shown in Fig. 9 and 10 to the closed position shown in Fig. 8. If a shif¬ ting between the two positions shown in Fig. 9 and 10 shall be effected, it however is necessary first to remove the control knob from the spindle 41 and thereupon to fit it thereto again with the stop cleat 48 situated on the opposi¬ te side of the stop cleat 45 of the insert housing 35. It of course also is possible to use other types of catches and intentional shifting manipulations, such as depression of spring biased knobs, etcetera, in order to prevent uninten¬ tional shifting between cold water and hot water connection.
The valve unit 27 thus described and consisting of the control knob 44, insert housing 35, rotary spindle 41 and sealing plates 29 and 33 is fitted as an insert in a recess in the valve housing 20 (Fig. 2) just in front of the feed channels 25 and the outlet channel 26. In order to avoid incorrect assembly of the rotary spindle 33 relative to the insert housing 35, the rotary spindle is equipped with a cleat 49 situated inside the key grip 43, which cleat coope¬ rates with stop faces 50 and 51 on the inner side of the insert housing 35, situated just about diametrically opposed to each other. The cleat 49 can be located only in the groove between these stop faces. The insert housing 35 furthermore externally has a ridge 52 intended to rest in a corresponding groove in said recess in the valve housing 20.
The invention is not limited to the embodiment shown but a plurality of modifications are possible within the scope for the claims.
