Description

"Syringe comprising a body with a chamber of variable volume and a needle device which can be assembled with said body".
The present invention relates to a syringe comprising a syringe body in which is defined a variable volume chamber containing the liquid to be injected and means for varying the volume of said chamber, the actuation of which enables the liquid to be expelled by reducing the volume out of the chamber, through an outlet orifice, as well as a needle device capable of being mounted on the end of said body, which comprises said orifice.
Known syringes of this type comprise a cylindrical body in which is axially movable a piston which constitutes the means for varying the volume of the aforementioned chamber and is provided with a rod ending in a manual actuation head. These known syringes have many drawbacks. A major drawback lies in the fact that the syringe bodies cannot be dispensed in the filled state to the users. In fact, when the syringe is filled, the piston is only slightly axially engaged in the body and the rod is almost entirely outside of the latter. It is obvious that in this state, the syringes are only difficult to transport. Therefore, the filling operation of the syringe should be carried out instead of using the syringe, which is not always without breaking the general rules of hygiene. In addition, since the syringe, when filled, has a total length which is almost double the length of its cylindrical body, the person giving the injection must handle the syringe using both hands. It is common to use syringes also for blood tests. However, since the syringes in the filled state are difficult to transport, the blood should then be transferred to another container which is transportable. It is obvious that such a transfer of blood involves a risk of contamination of the blood.
The present invention aims to provide a syringe which no longer has the considerable drawbacks which have just been stated.
To achieve this object, a syringe according to the invention is characterized in that its body has, in an axial view, a substantially triangular shape, that the outlet orifice is located at a corner of the triangle and in that at least the external walls of said body, which are parallel to the surface of said triangle, and that located opposite said orifice are deformable o and the walls delimiting the two sides of the triangle which are adjacent to said corner are capable of being brought together one on the other by applying pressure to said body at the two other corners of the triangle.
According to an advantageous characteristic of the invention, the syringe body has a general accordion configuration, where the fold lines converge towards the aforementioned outlet orifice, the actuating walls being advantageously rigid and having at level 0 of said orifice pivot zones.
According to another advantageous characteristic of the invention, the chamber of the syringe body, when filled, is closed by a tearable closure member such as a seal, which is located at the outlet of the the syringe. According to yet another advantageous characteristic of the invention, the needle device is adapted to be fitted onto the part of the syringe which comprises the outlet orifice, by a movement in the axial direction of the syringe and comprises at the inside a member for tearing the abovementioned closure member during said axial fitting movement.
The invention will be better understood, and other objects, characteristics, details and advantages thereof will appear more clearly during the explanatory description which follows, made with reference to the appended schematic drawings given solely by way of example illustrating a embodiment of the invention, and in which:
- la figure 1 est une vue schématique en perspective d'une seringue selon la présente invention;- Figure 1 is a schematic perspective view of a syringe according to the present invention;
- la figure 2 est une vue en coupe le long de la ligne II-II de la figure 1; et- Figure 2 is a sectional view along line II-II of Figure 1; and
- la figure 3 est une vue latérale d'un corps de seringue selon l'invention à son état de plus faible volume.- Figure 3 is a side view of a syringe body according to the invention in its state of lower volume.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in the figures, the reference symbols 1 and 2 respectively designate the body of the syringe of the invention and its needle device which is capable of being fitted onto the body 1 by a movement in the direction of the XX axis in the direction of the arrow F.
The body of the syringe 1 has the general configuration of a bellows having in an axial section the shape of a triangle. The end 3 comprising the orifice 4 of the syringe is located at a corner of the triangle. The lateral external walls 6 which are parallel to the triangular cross-section and the wall 7 situated opposite the end 3 with the orifice 4 are deformable and have in the embodiment shown an accordion configuration, the fold lines of the surfaces 6 converging towards the end 3. The upper and lower walls 8 and 9 which extend perpendicular to the deformable walls 6 and 7 have a generally rectangular shape. They are relatively rigid but have near the end of the orifice 3 a zone allowing their pivoting each around an axis YY which extends perpendicular to the lateral deformable walls 6. It is easily understood that by exerting a pressure in the direction of the arrows A on the free ends 12 of the pivoting walls 8, 9, it is possible to reduce the volume of the chamber 13 which is delimited by the deformable walls 6 and 7 and the pivoting walls 8.
The end 3 of the syringe body 1 has a generally cylindrical shape whose axis coincides with the axis XX of the syringe and has an axial channel 14 which communicates with the chamber 13 and opens at its other end towards the outside, through the outlet orifice 4. The cylindrical external surface of the end 3 carries a helical rib 16 which extends over a length corresponding to an angle advantageously between 90 and 180 °. The function of this rib will be explained later.
When the syringe body 1 is in its deployed state and the chamber 18 has, for example, its maximum volume as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the injection liquid is introduced into this chamber and the latter is then closed at 1 using a member such as a cover 17 at the outlet orifice 4.
This cover is made of a tearable material. The needle device 2 has a body 19 for supporting the needle 20 of the syringe and has on the side adjacent to the end 3 of the syringe body 1 a cylindrical bore 21 having a diameter slightly greater than the external diameter of the end 3. In the cylindrical internal wall of the bore 21 is formed a helical groove 22 which is intended during the fitting of the needle device 2 on the end 3 of the syringe body 1 to cooperate with the helical rib 16 of the latter in the manner of a thread.
As shown in the figures, the needle 20 penetrates axially into the bore 21 over a sufficient length indicated at 25 to be able to pierce the seal 17 for closing the chamber 13 during the fitting of the device 2 on the body of syringe 1.
Referring to Figure 2, we see that we can provide the body of the needle 2 with a spacer 23, which could be in the form of a single rod, to lock the body 1 to the maximum volume state of the chamber 13. As is schematically indicated, the ends of the rod 23 could be provided with small projections capable of engaging in suitable recesses, formed in the internal surfaces of the actuating walls 8 and 9 from the syringe. In Figure 3, the syringe body is shown in its position of smallest volume. A U-shaped member 24 can be provided to lock the body in this position.
The operation and mounting of a syringe according to the invention appears directly from the description which has just been made and from the figures. Thus, after filling the chamber 13 of the syringe body 1 and closing this chamber using the cover 17 and after having, if necessary, put in place the spacer 23, the syringe can be dispensed in the filled state without any inconvenience. When in use, it is then sufficient to mount the needle device 2 axially on the end 3 of the syringe body 1. Since the internal part 25 of the needle 2 has pierced the seal 17 during assembly of the two parts of the syringe, it is immediately ready for use. Since the syringe according to the invention does not need an axially movable plunger, like known syringes, it can have a very short length, which allows the user to perform the injection by help with one hand.
For a blood test, it would then suffice to open the bellows-shaped body of the syringe so that the blood is sucked through the needle 20. After closing the orifice 4 of the syringe body, the latter can be transported in the filled state instead of blood processing.
It is obvious that many variations can be made to the syringe as shown and described. Thus, the deformable walls could be produced in any other known manner. For example, the deformable walls 6 and 7 could be made of an elastically deformable material. In the filled state, these walls could be in the elastically stretched state. This state could be maintained by appropriate return means acting between the walls 8 and 9 of the syringe so that the liquid is always ejected by manual actuation of the syringe. In addition, the syringe body could have any other suitable shape. It is only important that the reduction in chamber 13 can be obtained by bringing together at least two walls of the body. The cooperating parts of the syringe body and of the needle device may also have any other appropriate complementary shape. For example, they could have a conical shape.
In the embodiment of the invention which is shown, the syringe body 1 is in one piece. According to a second embodiment, this body could also be made in two separate and assembled parts. A part could be constituted by an envelope intended to contain the liquid and having a general shape corresponding to that of the body 1 shown. The other part would be made in the form of a part of the refillable cartridge type, which would then comprise the end body 3 and the pivoting rigid walls 8, 9 of the syringe shown. The envelope would be insertable into this cartridge body and would include a tubular outlet part which would be capable of engaging in the axial channel 14 and could even pass through it so that it can then be taken when the needle device is mounted on the end 3 of the cartridge body between the front faces of this device and the end 3. The cover 17 would be located in this tubular part.
This second embodiment would allow the cartridge body to be reused and it would then suffice to distribute only the envelopes filled with the liquid to be injected.
In both embodiments, it could be made so that the actuating walls 8 and 9 are pivotable against a restoring force. To this end, one could for example provide at the pivot points of the walls, elements such as small rods or tongues of an elastically deformable material. Of course, these return means could be produced in any other appropriate manner.
One could also provide means indicating the amount of liquid present in the chamber 13. One solution to this problem would consist in using the state of compression of the syringe body, that is to say the approximation of the rigid walls 8 and 9 during their pivoting around the axes YY. Thus the angle between these two walls would constitute a visual reference of the quantity of liquid still contained in the syringe and / or of the quantity which has already been injected. One could also provide at the outlet end 3 of the syringe an element in the form of a triangular plate or a tongue which would be integral with one of the walls 8 or 9 and would extend in a perpendicular plane to the pivot axes YY, so that the other wall moves during the compression of the syringe along this element. By providing a scale on the latter establishing the relationship between the different angular positions of the movable wall and the respective volume of the chamber 13, a system of visual cueing of the contents of the syringe would have been produced. Of course any other suitable solution can be chosen.
