- This invention relates to a i-r ⁇ -DSt-c-. ⁇ ti-ally C-formed sheet metal profile having a web with stiffening grooves and two flanges with inwardly bent edges that stiffen the flanges.
- Such sheet metal profiles are increasingly used in place of wooden studs in framework walls lined with plaster board. The most common use is for partitions that do not carry a load.
- the web of the profile is then ususally 70 mm and the flanges are usually 35 mm; these dimensions corres ⁇ pond to the size of common wooden studs for the same purpose.
- the plaster board or any, other possible lining is screwed to the flanges of the profile by means of self boring and tapping screws.

- the profile according to claim 1 and 2 has a web 11 and two flanges 12, 13.
- the flanges are stiffened by their in- warding bent edges 14, 15.
- the web 11 has a serpentine formed groove 16 that consists of substantially straight parts 17, 18 joined by substantially circular bows 19, 20.
- the straight parts 17, 18 extend over at least half the width of the web at an angle of about 45 to the longitudinal direction of the profile. These straight parts 17, 18 are thus substanti ⁇ ally at right angle to each other.
- the profile according to Figs 3 and 4 are similar to the one according to Fig 1 and 2 but it has two serpentine grooves 16, 21 instead of one.
- the pattern formed by the serpentine grooves is symmetric and the serpentine grooves 16, 20 intersect at a substantially right angle.
- the profile according to Figs 5 and 6 has two longitu ⁇ dinal flatbottomed grooves 24, 25 along the edges of its web 11 and these grooves 24, 25 are connected by a zig-zag groove that consists of straight grooves 26, 27 that have the same directions as the grooves 17, 18 of the serpentine groove 16 in Fig 1.
- the grooves 26, 27 have the same depth as the grooves 24, 25 and flat bottoms.
- Figs 7 and 8 The profile according to Figs 7 and 8 is similar to the one shown in Figs 5 and 6 but it has two zig-zag grooves 26, 27 and 28, 29 instead of one groove.
- the pattern is symmetric and the grooves 26, 27 and 28, 29 intersect at substantially right angles.
- a con ⁇ tinuous substantially zig-zag formed stiffening groove there is a con ⁇ tinuous substantially zig-zag formed stiffening groove.
- one respectively two zig-zag formed grooves join with two longitudinal grooves 24, 25 so that a lattice-like pattern is formed.
- the longitudinal grooves and the zig-zag formed grooves should have equal depth so that their bottoms are joined. This provides for a force flow akin to the flow in a like lattice. It seems advantageous though not necessary that both the longitudinal grooves and the zig-zag grooves have flat bottoms as shown in the Figures.
- zig-zag formed grooves in the web can be made by means of two synchronized steel rolls.
- Neoprene rubber can be used as a lining and its thickness can suitably be 4-6 times, preferably 5-6 times, the depth of the grooves that is to be rolled into the steel web.
