Abstract

In a process for producing formes, a light source reproduces an original, point by point and line by line, on a light-sensitive recording support. The recording support used is a material having a black (opaque) washable layer which hardens at the points exposed to light and can be washed out at the unexposed points. This layer is applied to a white substrate which is transparent to UV light and cannot be washed out. The recording material is used after activation, fixing, and washing out as a printer's copy for direct production of a forme.

Druckformherstellung mittels auswaschbarem BildträgerPrinting form production using washable image carrier
The present invention relates to a process for the production "of printing forms, in which an original artwork point and zeilen¬ is scanned opto-electronically, the scanning signals thereby obtained are converted into digital image signals, and the digital image signals, a light source to the point and line by line recording of the original on control a light-sensitive recording medium.
It is already known in printing technology a process for the production of printing forms in which, for. B. in offset printing, the template to be printed is exposed on supervisory photo material. Inspection material is used in order to have a "proof" for the final printed product, which is presented to the customer for inspection before printing. After the customer has given his consent to the "proof", this supervisory photographic material is copied onto transparent material, which is then used to expose an offset plate in a further exposure process and which is then used to print in the offset printing press. The exposure of the offset plate takes place either from the see-through film obtained by copying in a copy frame by contact exposure or from the exposed supervisory photo material by means of a repro camera in reflex exposure. In the first case, it is felt to be disadvantageous that a second film has to be produced and that a sharpness loss occurs during copying. In the second case, an expensive repro camera is required, and there is also a loss of quality in the reflex exposure in the camera.
In these two processes, films or photographic material are used which have a strongly silver-containing emulsion layer, the development of the latent image being carried out using chemically aggressive agents which emit aggressive vapors and make it necessary to dispose of the used developer liquid, which as is known, is very hostile to the environment.
The present invention is therefore based on the objects of improving the image quality, simplifying the printing form production process and making the entire process more environmentally friendly. The invention achieves this in that when recording the original on a light-sensitive recording medium by means of a light source, a recording medium is used which has a black (non-translucent) washable layer which is cured at the exposed areas and at the unexposed areas can be washed out, the layer being applied to a white carrier material which is resistant to washing out. The washed-out recording material is used directly as a printing template for the production of the printing form, the white carrier material preferably being UV-transparent for the production of offset or gravure printing forms.
The production of offset printing forms takes place directly by exposing offset plates to UV light by means of a contact copy with the recording medium which has been exposed point by point and line by line from the light source. The production of etched gravure forms takes place by exposing gravure forms coated with pre-screened pigment paper with UV light by means of a contact copy with the aforementioned master.
The production of screened low pressure molds takes place in that the aforementioned printing template serves as a scanning template for the engraving machine.
The recording material used for the printing template is characterized by the fact that it consists of white paper felt or the like coated on both sides, the coating consisting of transparent plastic and a black (non-translucent) washable layer on one of the coated sides of the material is applied, which is cured in the exposed areas and can be washed out in the unexposed areas, preferably using a coating which is sold under the name "Wolf", ie wash-off line film, by Dupont for the production of transparent film material is used. For this purpose, reference is made to the publication Dupont, No. GP 753-01 Ma 0 1843.5 "and to the article" Wolf system improved, "Der Druckspiegel", 9, 1987, page 7. This layer is black in the unprocessed state and the image is created by a kind of subtractive method, ie unexposed parts are removed during the processing process. The layer contains small amounts of silver, which is used for latency imaging. With this layer, excellent edge sharpness and optimal density can be achieved, and the layer can be processed by means of laser beams in the UV region of the spectrum and is therefore excellently suited as a recording medium for facsimile transmissions from newspaper pages or computer-to-plate technology in offset printing. This In contrast to conventional films, the emulsion layer contains very little silver and is a combination of gelatin with a black pigment of high concentration. Exposure forms a latent image in the emulsion layer. The very low silver content of the emulsion layer is about 25% of the content of conventional emulsions for graphic films, but is not sufficient to produce a visible image through development. The activator penetrates the protective layer in a special "Wolf" processor, releasing the tanning agent it contains into the emulsion layer. There are no gray parts of the image, the pigment is either present or is not present, ie there are only completely blackened areas or non-blackened areas. Developers for such layers are sold commercially by Dupont.
The great advantage of the method according to the invention is, on the one hand, that the copying process from supervisory photo material to see-through film material is eliminated, and, on the other hand, that the loss of quality occurring in this copying process is avoided. When an offset plate is exposed by a repro camera from the supervisory photo material, the quality loss that occurs is also avoided, since the exposure of the offset printing plate takes place in direct contact with the top material by UV light. Since the material is either completely blackened or not blackened, hard UV light can be used so that stains, cut edges or other contaminants or speckles are eliminated in the exposure process of the offset plate. In addition, the emulsion layer used has only about a quarter of the silver content, and the development and fixation can be carried out using chemically less aggressive means.
