Since the tips may be permanently formed they can be shaped so as to suit the type of fleece with which they are to be used. For example, in sheep having a tight fleece the tip can be more pointed as in Figure 2 so that it can easily pass through the tight fleece. If the fleece is somewhat more loose the tip can be more rounded or squared as shown in Figure 3, to reduce the likelihood of cutting the sheep as the comb passes through the sheep's fleece.
  • a removable and replaceable insert which can be provided with two cutting surfaces greatly reduces the amount of maintenance which is required to maintain a shearing comb and also reduces downtime of a shearing comb since the insert can be easily inverted or replaced but the comb can continue to be used. Furthermore, the provision of a hard coating on the insert also greatly .contributes to the cutting life of the insert and further reduces the need for maintenance and in particular resharpening.

Abstract

Peigne tondeur comprenant un support pourvu d'une cavité (20) destinée à recevoir une pièce rapportée (22). Le support comporte des dents (14) et la pièce rapportée (22) comporte également des dents (28, 29) sur chacune de ses faces. Chaque série de dents (28, 29) présente deux parties coupantes (22a, 22a', 22b, 22b') permettant de renverser ou de retourner la pièce rapportée (22) en inversant la place de ses faces de façon que l'une des parties coupantes (22a, 22a', 22b, 22b') puisse, avec un peigne coupant supérieur (51), être utilisée pour tondre la toison d'un mouton. La pièce rapportée (22) est pourvue d'une couche de nitrure de titane ou de nitrure de titane et d'aluminium et le support est percé de trous (50) destinés à recevoir des vis pour maintenir la pièce rapportée dans la cavité (20).
