Abstract

The repelling of insects at the growing of cultivated plants is difficult without poisonous materials. In the method in accordance with the invention the plants are exposed to irradiation of microwaves by carrying a to a working machine (1) attachable radiation source (3) above and/or on the side of a row of plants in such a way, that the microwave radiation is directed on the cultivated plants.

Description

METHOD FOR PROTECTION OF CULTIVATED PLANTS
The objective of the invention is a method for protection of cultivated plants.
The problem with different, in rows cultivated plants, such as for instance strawberries, currants, raspberries and corresponding useful plants, are in their growing different kinds of insects. The destructive insects destroy the plant or berries or fruits obtained from the plant, but when the harvesting is done by machine, also the other insects landing in tne collection container constitute a problem. The insects can be repelled by means of insecticides, but the poisons used affect easily also the plants and their berrie s and fruits. Additionally, during the florescence or during a certain period of time before the harvesting the poisons can not be used.
The aim with the invention is to bring forward a method for protection of cultivated plants, by means of which method some disadvantages connected with the presently known methods are eliminated. In particular the purpose of the invention is to bring about a method, with the help of which the insects can be removed without damage to the useful plants and without, that their berries, fruits or corresponding would be contaminated with noxious additive materials. In addition the aim of the invention is to bring forward a method, which is simple and easy to use.
The purpose of the invention is achieved by means of a method, which is mainly characterized by matters, which are presented in the patent claims.
In the method in accordance with the invention the plants are put under the irradiation of microwaves. The microwaves have a strong effect on the insects on the plants by destroying them efficiently. The insects are eradicated from the plants according to the invention favourably by exposing the plants to low effect microwave irradiation. The effect of the microwave radiation is hereby chosen in such a way, that it damages the Insects, but leaves the plants undamaged.
In the method the plant cultivation areas are treated with microwave irradiation apparatus connected with a working machine, such as a tractor. The working machine is driven between the rows of the cultivated plants in such a way, that the microwaves hit mainly the in rows positioned plants efficiently. The irradiation apparatus can be such, that with the help of it several rows can simultaneously be exposed to radiation at one time. The irradiation apparatus is arranged in such a way, that the low effect radiation is directed on the cultivated plants from the above and/or from the sides.
In the following the method in accordance with the invention is explained more In detail by referring to the attached drawing, in which figure 1 presents an application of the irradiation apparatus connected with the working machine seen from the side, figure 2 presents the apparatus in accordance with figure 1 seen from above, and figure 3 presents the apparatus in accordance with figure 1 seen from behind.
To the irradiation apparatus presented in figures 1-3 belong a detachably on the working machine 1 attachable base structure 2, on the base placed radiation source 3, which eradiates microwaves, and as a power source functioning generator 4. The generator is supported on its proper place by means of bearing rods 5 and the bases are movable in regard of each other. In figure 2 is presented the use of three bases and on the bases placed radiation sources. In the presented application the middle base is removable and the other bases can be moved in regard of each other in accordance with figure 3. The bases are placed behind the working machine, in this case a tractor, and equipped with wheels 6, supported on which they are moved. The effect of the microwaves can be regulated within the wished limits, whereby the maximum effect is for instance 5 kW/unit.
The apparatus is used for irradiation of plants cultivated in rows with microwave radiation. According to figure 3 the tractor is driven between the rows and the bases are placed in with broken lines presented positions in such a way, that the bases are carried forward above the rows of plants whereby it is endeavoured to destroy the insects on the plants by exposing the plants to irradiation of low effect microwave radiation. The applications presented on the figures are designed for irradiation of low plants and by irradiation of for instance raspberries, currants and other bushlike plants special supporting structures instead of bases must be used. Hereat to the apparatus belong for instance two on the side of the bushes placed radiation sources and one above the bushes placed radiation source, whereat the bushes are irradiated efficiently from the different sides when the working machine is transporting the radiation sources on the rows of plants.
The invention is not limited to the presented application, but it can vary within the frames presented in the patent claims.

PATENT CLAIMS
1. Method for protection of cultivated plants, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that in order to protect from insects the plants are irradiated with microwaves by transporting a to a working machine (1) attached radiation source (3) above at least one row of plants and/or side of row of plants in such a way, that the microwave radiation is direct ed on the cultivated plants.
2. Method in accordance with patent claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that the rows of plants are irradiated with low effect microwave radiation.
