Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an arrangement for an opening for the purpose of achieving a sealed lead-through for a conductor or some other desired object through the opening.
  • the principal object of the present invention is, in the first place, to make available an arrangement of the kind indicated above, which permits the reliable and effective leading through and securing by simple means of conductors, etc., in an opening, at the same time as which the sealing of the opening can be achieved by the same means.
  • an expandable sealing body provided with a passageway for the conductor, etc., in question is capable of being accommodated in said opening, with a counter-pressure component situated to either side of said sealing body, taken in the direction of leading through, and in that a connecting device capable of actuating both the aforementioned counter-pressure components is so arranged, upon actuation, as to permit the compression of the sealing body between the counter-pressure components, so that the sealing body expands in order to clamp the components securely to the opening, at the same time sealing the opening.
  • Fig. 1 shows a section through a lead-through arrangement in accordance with the invention in its position installed in an opening
  • Figs. 2-4A show a second illustrative embodiment of a lead-through arrangement, where:
  • Fig. 2 shows a plan view of a first counter-pressure component
  • Fig. 2A shows a section along the line II-II of said first component
  • Fig. 3 shows a plan view of a second counter-pressure component
  • Fig. 3A shows a section along the line III-III of said second component
  • Fig. 4 shows a plan view of a sealing body
  • Fig. 4A shows a section along line IV-IV of the sealing body.
  • An arrangement 1 arranged in accordance with the present invention which lends itself to the achievement of a sealed lead-through for a conductor 2, 2 1 or some other desired object in an opening 3, through which it is wished to pass the conductor 2, 2 1 , etc., comprises an expandable sealing body 4, a connecting device 5 and two counter-pressure components 6, 7 capable of moving relative to one another.
  • the expandable sealing body 4, which may consist of rubber and/or plastic material or some other appropriate elastic material, exhibits one or more passageways 8, 9 adapted to the number of conductors 2, 2 1 and the connecting device 5, which passageways extend all the way through said body 4.
  • the sealing body 4 appropriately exhibits a peripheral form matching the form of the opening 3, for example cylindrical form, and can exhibit guides 10, 11 which match the counter-pressure components 6, 7.
  • Said guides can consist of a shoulder 10, 11, which extends along the entire periphery of the respective sealing body, and which is so arranged as to be gripped, for example, by a flange 12, 13 on said counter-pressure components 6, 7, at the same time as which a component 4B, 4C projecting from the centre part 4A of the sealing body in the lateral sense 14, 15, taken in the direction of leading through and the extension of the passageways 8, 9 through the body 4, is accommodated in a dish-shaped accommodating space 16, 17 in the respective counter-pressure components 6, 7.
  • the two counter-pressure components 6, 7, which preferably consist of a metallic material, are so arranged, when the lead-through arrangement is in its installed position in an opening 3, as to be accommodated on either side of the sealing body 4, taken in the direction of leading through 14, 15, and as to be attached to one another by means of said connecting devices 5.
  • a screw 5 comprising threaded devices 18 which are capable of interacting with matching threads 19 in one of the counter-pressure devices 6, 7 may appropriately be used as a connecting device.
  • the threads 19 can be arranged in the material 6A of the counter-pressure component 6 in question, preferably in the form of a threaded hole 20.
  • this hole 20 is so arranged as to extend all the way through said counter-pressure component 6, whereas in the second embodiment, which is shown in Figs. 2 and 2A in the drawings, the hole is closed at one of its ends by an end wall 21.
  • the object of this is, amongst other things, that no account need be taken of the length of the screw in the first embodiment, that is to say of its being too long and bottoming in the hole 20, and that in the second embodiment it is possible to achieve an effective seal in the sealing body 4, since there is no need to provide any sealing between the screw 5 and the hole 9 for a screw, etc., 5 which passes through the sealing body 4.
  • the screw, etc., 5 is also so arranged as to extend through a hole 22, which is arranged in said second counter-pressure component 7 directly in Line with the hole 20 in said first counter-pressure component 6.
  • the conductor/conductors, etc., 2, 2 1 is/are so arranged as to extend through appropriate holes 24, 25 arranged in the respective counter-pressure components 6, 7, and which are also so arranged as to be situated directly in line with one another and to align with the passageways 8 in the sealing body 4.
  • At least one of said two counter-pressure components 6, 7 can exhibit a shoulder 26 or some other appropriate guide extending along the periphery of a lead-through opening 3, which guide is adapted to a lead-through opening 3 of the kind in question, and can be so arranged as to make contact via a part 27 with, for example, a wall, etc., 28 adjacent to the opening 3.
  • the function of the arrangement 1 is as follows: A number of conductors, etc., 2, 2 1 , which it is wished to pass through an opening 3 which, for example, extends through a panel 28 in a vehicle, are passed one after the other by their respective ends through the openings 25, 8, 24 in the counter-pressure components 7, 6 and the sealing body 4, and are connected to the intended component, etc., which may be situated in the space 29 inside the panel, etc., 28.
  • the entire arrangement 1 is then positioned, preferably with the screw, etc., 5 also introduced, in appropriate holes 22, 9, 20 in the counter-pressure components 7, 6 and the sealing body 4, into the opening 3.
  • the two counter-pressure components 6, 7 situated to either side of the sealing body 4 are caused to move towards one another, and in so doing to compress the sealing body 4.
  • Said sealing body 4 is in this way caused to expand in a radial sense 30, 31, and in so doing to be clamped securely internally in said opening 3, for example by coming into contact with the expanding part 4A of the body 4 against the inside of, for example, a flange 32 extending around the opening 3, or against the peripheral edge of the opening itself, or to be clamped internally in the space 29 behind the wall 28.
  • the example illustrated here shows that a single screw 5 is used to secure the arrangement 1, although several screws can be used for this purpose, thereby achieving the more uniform distribution of pressure around the periphery of the arrangement. It is also possible to provide guides for the components, so that these are held together and are prevented from rotating, even if only a single securing screw 5 is utilized.
