- the rotors 11 can be removed from the pretreating apparatus, turned axially and re-inserted in order to rotate in the opposite direction so that the previous rear edge of the blocks now will become the front edge. In this way the service life of the rotors is doubled.

Abstract
Les grumes dont l'écorçage s'avère difficile peuvent être prétraités par des chocs de manière à réduire l'adhérence de l'écorce au bois avant écorçage des grumes par frottement. Dans le but d'éviter les problèmes de résistance qui se posent au niveau des tourillons de batteurs montés sur rotor, l'invention fait appel à des rotors (11) pourvus de préférence de dentures (13) sous forme de bloc, fixées de manière hélicoïdale à la surface (21) du rotor (11). Les rotors (11) sont incorporés dans un convoyeur à rouleaux (7) et tournent à une vitesse périphérique de 20 à 30 m/s, c'est-à-dire égale à 20 à 30 fois la vitesse de passage des grumes dans l'appareil de prétraitement. Afin de réduire la vitesse, le convoyeur à rouleaux (7) comporte des rotors de freinage (23), comme par exemple des rouleaux à pointes, ainsi que des moyens souples (19, 19') à bavettes de caoutchouc (27, 27'), qui appliquent les grumes contre les rotors (11 et 23).
