Abstract

The specific feature of the solution lies in that on the lower end of a rotatable and longitudinally adjustable rod a spring is fixed by a screw in the handgrip of the toolframe, on the upper end there is a base plate arranged comprising two discs with a conical and ribbed surface having been fixed in a threaded bore thereof, furtheron in the handgrip controlling means are to be found. Lying opposite to the base plate a cylindrical adjustable shank for receiving the cutting knife with the knife at the lower end thereof is arranged and behind the knife, on both sides of the tool-frame rollers are to be found. For the removal of the insulating layer in the longitudinal directions the invention yields two possible methods. The device according to the invention may be manipulated with one hand, whether cutting is taking place in a longtitudinal, transverse direction or spirally. By adjusting single components, the device is equally suitable for the right-hand and left-hand performance, respectively.

Description

Cutting device for the removal of the outer insulating layer of cables and similar products
Technical field
The invention relates to a cutting device for the removal of the outer insulating layer of cables and similar products.
Background art
According to the prior art, up to now cutting means with a knife- or scissors character or similar means have been used for the removal of- the outer insulating layer in course of mounting the cables; by using said means, insulating layers can be removed in different manners, however,whichever method is used, the main task lies in to remove the single layers with the utmost safety, caring for the soundness of the remaining layer or layers, ensuring operational safety and to decrease hazards of injuries and loading of the worker's hand. These requirements cannot be met with some structural solution, and if, not in its entirety.
Several solutions are described in different patent specifications, so e. g. CH-PS 595 959 and 597 994, HU-PS 175 841, DE-PS 1 915 895, DE-PS 2 716 841 and DE-PS 2 826 856, but neither of them is fully complying with the requirements, every one is showing some deficiency in respect to the removal of the insulating layer of the cables.
When surveying a restricted scope, it may stated that either in the patent specifications HU-PS 169 139,
HU-PS 172 572, HU-PS 173 854 and Patent Application with the Serial Number TE-942, or in the German Patent Specifications DE-PS 2 139 196, DE-PS 2158 888, DE-PS 2 244287, DE-PS 2 314 466, DE-PS 2 316 102 and DE-PS 2345 938 the solutions for the removal of the insulating layer of the cable include either an annular or a spiral cut or the insulation is simply cut in a longitudinal direction.
From this the practice resulted, in so far as in workshops, where installation of cables is taking place,a lot of cutting means has to be provided for and kept in use, being different in respect to manipulation and operational safety, at the same time, the ever increasing assortment does not facilitate the performance of installation at all. The aim of the invention is to develop a new cutting device for the removal of the insulating layer of cables and similar products, by the aid of which - in the knowledge of the advantageous and disadvantageous features of prior arts - cutting process can be performed - performing annular or spiral cuts or cutting in the length easily and with the highest operationaly safety.
Disclosure of Invention
Accordingly, the invention relates to a cutting device for the removal of the insulating layer of cables and similar products, with the characteristic feature that at the lower end of a rotatable and longitudinally adjustable rod a spring is fixed by screws in the handgrip of a tool-frame, on the upper end there is a base plate arranged, comprising two discs with a conical and ribbed surface having been fixed in a threaded bore thereof, furtheron in the handgrip controlling means are to be found; lying opposite to the base plate a cylindrical adjustable shank for receiving the cutting knife with the knife at the lower end thereof is arranged and behind the knife, on both sides of the tool-frame rollers are to be found.
A further specific feature of the solution according to the invention lies in that in the frame-tool, along the shank of the cutting knife a faceplate is fixed by screws, to the faceplate a screw for the fine-adjustment of the knife-extension, a fixing screw for transversal or spiral cutting and a screw with a truncated head for fixing the adjusted position of the knife-shank are fixed, furtheron, as control and fixing means of the rod having been led in the handgrip a pin, a lever for quick release, a spring for fixing the released position and a cath with a releasing arc and an eccentric bore are arranged.
With a further preferred embodiment of the invention on the outer end of the knife-shank of the tool-frame a slide shoe and under it a knife-edge are arranged.
With a further version of the invention in the tool-frame, beside the one- or two-edged knife-shank, on the upper surface of the tool-frame a knife-shank with controlling means, with a grooved shank, slide shoe and knife-edge is arranged.
The main advantage of the solution according to the invention lies in the simple structural design and that the removal of the insulation of the cable with a cut either in a longitudinal direction or with an annular or spiral cut can be easily performed, with a high operational safety by means of the fine-adjustable knife or knives.
The solution according to the invention will be described in detail by means of the drawings enclosed, showing the faceplate having been fixed with a screw in the tool-frame, along the shank of the cutting knife, the screw attached thereto for the fine-adjustment of the knife-extension, the screw fixing the shank of the cutting-knife for the transverse or spiral cut and at last the screw with the truncated head for fixing the shank of the knife in the desired position, as well as further components of the device.

Best Mode of Carrying out the Invention
As it is to be seen in Figure 1, the tool-frame 10 of the device is ending on the lower end of the grip 58 in a shoulder excluding the possibility of the sliding of the hand. In the bore of the handgrip 58, at the lower end of the rod 12 the spring 20 is fixed by means of the screw 22. On the upper end of the rod 12 the base plate 14 is fixed to the rod 12 by means of the pin 18. The discs 16 of the base plate 14 are fitted by means of the screws 64 to the threaded pins corresponding to the bores of the base plate 14.
On the base plate 14, in the threaded bores corresponding to the spirals two discs 16 are fixed with the screws 64. The pin 32 with the eccentric bore, the catch with the releasing arc, the spring fixing the released position and the lever for the quick release serve for the control of the rod 12. In the tool-frame 10, lying opposite to the base plate 14, there is the cutting knife 34 arranged, having been provided with the shank 46 of the knife, the screw-head 66 , the head 50 of the knife-shank and with the spring 48 for lifting the shank 46 of the knife. For the fine-adjustment of. the cutting knife 34 in a vertical direction the device is provided with the faceplate 42, the screw 54 and the spring 52.
The screw 44 on the faceplate 42 serves for the adjustment of the cutting knife and fixing thereof in the required position in course of spiral cuttings. In the set position the faceplate 42 can be fixed by means of the screw 56, while the position of the shank 46 of the knife is fixed by means of the screw 36 with the truncated head. In the tool-frame 10, on both sides the roller 38 is fitted to the cable surface by means of the screw 40. On the part of the tool-frame, in the vicinity of the cutting knife 34 there is the path 60 for the discharge of the chippings. Figures 4 and 5 are showing the arrangement according to the invention for the spiral cutting of the insulating layer of the cable, i. e. the arrangement of the discs 16 in the bores of the base plate 14 for the right-hand and left-hand applications, respectively. In accordance with the desired direction proper adjustment can be performed by turning the faceplate 42 on the shank 46 of the cutting knife.
After having pressed the lever 26, the bar 12 presses the cable by means of the spring 20 to the intended place of cutting. Figure 6 is showing a possible application of the device according to the invention.
As it is to be seen in Figure 10, the shank 46 of the knife and the knife-edge 68 under the slide shoe 70 have been designed for cutting in the longitudinal direction.
Figure 1 is showing another possible cutting method by using the tool-frame 10, wherein on the inner end of the case 74, in a bore there is the spring 76, on one side of the shank 46 of the knife there is a groove 72, the thread 80 serves for fixing the screw 78, namely for fitting it to the bore of the shank 46 of the knife; by releasing the screw 78 from the groove 72 the slide shoe 70 of the shank 46 of the knife and the knife- edge 68 can be expediently adjusted for cutting the insulating layer lengthwise in a most safe manner.
A further advantage of the solution according to the invention lies in that the spring 28 of the rod 12 is cutting the adjusted layer-thickness even at the ovality of the cables, since during the operation the spring 28 is following the outer layer of the cable, thus performing control.
The solution according to the invention can be considered as a further-development of the known solutions, in so far as by modernizing a hand-tool all the processes to be performed in course of the removal of the outer insulating layer of the cable can be performed - compared to known solutions - with a much higher operational safety.

Claims

Claims:
1. Cutting device for the removal of the outer insulating layer of cables and similar products, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that at the lower end of a rotatable and longitudinally adjustable rod (12) a spring (20) is fixed by means of a screw (22) in the handgrip (58) of the tool-frame (10), on the upper end there is a base-plate (14) arranged comprising two discs (16) with a conical and ribbed surface having been fixed in a threaded bore thereof, furtheron in the handgrip (58) means (26, 28, 30, 32) for the control of the rod (12) are to be found, lying opposite to the base plate (14) a cylindrical adjustable shank (46) for receiving the cutting knife with the knife (34) at the lower end thereof is arranged and behind the cutting knife (34), in both sides of the tool-frame (10) rollers (38) are to be found.

Cutting device as claimed in claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that in the tool-frame (10), along the shank (46) of the knife there is a faceplate (42) arranged having been fixed with the screw (44), furtheron there are the screw (54) for the fine-adjustment of the knife-extension, the fixing screw (56) fixing the shank of the knife for the transverse or spiral cutting and the screw (36) with the truncated head for fixing the positioned shank (46) of the shank fixed to said faceplate.

Cutting device as claimed in claim 1 or 2, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that for the control of the rod (12) having been led in the handgrip (58), as controlling and fixing means a pin (32), a lever (26) for the quick release, a spring (28) for fixing the released position and a catch (30) with a releasing arc and an eccentric bore are provided.
4. Cutting device for the removal of the outer insulating layer of cables and similar products, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that on the outer end of the shank (46) of the knife, on the tool-frame (10) a slide shoe (70) is arranged and below the slide shoe the knife-edge (68) is to be found.

Cutting device as claimed in any of the claims 1 to 4, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that in the tool-frame (10) beside the double-edged or single-edged knife-shank (46), on the outer surface of the tool-frame (10) a knife-shank (46) with controlling means (74, 76, 78, 80 ), with a grooved shank (72), with a slide-shoe (70) and with a knife-edge (68) are arranged.
